Community Apocrypha #2

Thalmor/Aldmeri Dominion

Welcome back to the Community Apocrypha! I'm happy to announce that the first thread was a huge success, and I hope that we can continue that for a long time.

The topic of this session was chosen to be the Thalmor, but I decided that this wouldn't be enough to cover and we'd have to come back to the AD at a later date anyway, so I bundled them together. No, this thread isn't to do with Mr. Mora, it's just a name that I chose what, with the new Dragonborn DLC and all that lark. If you don't know what this Community Apocrypha is then I suggest you read http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1426196-lore-gathering-idea/ and http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1426521-community-apocrypha-1-wulfharth/page__fromsearch__1.

I would like to reiterate that you should reference as many sources as possible, as the lore in this is supposed to be somewhat defined as canon, and references get the job done. As usual I will collate all the info posted in to a document at the end and post it for you all to see.

The purposes of this is clear, for everybody to learn lore while giving some at the same time and for us, as a community to have fun. If you don't want to participate then that's fine, as long as you don't flame. Criticism (constructive) is encouraged if you have something to say. That's all really, though there are a couple of basic guidelines.

*No Arguing. This is incredibly annoying for reading through posts and defeats half the object of this project.
*Discussion isn't a nono, but it should only really be done if your point or information contradicts another.
*Have fun and learn.

If anybody has a suggestion for the next topic, then please, mail me.

Now, on to this specific event, or whatever it should be called.

Useful Sources:

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Rising_Threat,_Vol._II
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:The_Great_War_(book)

There are a lot more sources than this, but these are all you're getting.

When referencing sources use specific quotes and state where they came from. If the source isn't a quote then just say what the reference is. If it's an in game image then screenshots would be ideal, although that is quite a lot to ask.

That's all for now folks!

The Aldmeri Dominion was founded in the 2nd era to separate Aldmer society and keep Elven blood pure, while the races of man invaded into the southern Tamrielic lands. After the fall of the Reman Cyrodiilic Empire in 2E430, Valenwood fell apart and the region opened up to Khajiit, ‘barbaric’ Colovians, and Maormer (Sea Elves) from Pyandonea. The Bosmer, natives of Valenwood, were unconcerned. The Altmer, however, were far from unconcerned.
In 2E830, the Altmer from Alinor, now known as Summerset Isles, invaded Valenwood to stop the growing strife in the region. With the assistance of the rightful heir to the Bosmer throne, Camoran Anaxemes, the Elves created the Aldmeri Dominion and drove out the Colovians and Maormer out of Valenwood. The victories of the Aldmeri armies lead the Dominion to establish Anaxemes as king. Anaxemes asked the Altmer to form a temporary government, and so they formed the Thalmor. This government was equally combined from chieftains of Bosmer tribes and diplomats from Alinor. The Thalmor easily eliminated the threat of the Maormer, and some stragglers decided to join the Dominion (Most were probably forced to join as prisoners of war.) Many of them interbred with the rest of the elves, wiping out the race.

That's what I have for now, major source was from Rise and Fall of the Aldmeri Dominion.

Though not the best thing to throw in at the start, I think no collection of knowledge on the Thalmor is complete without this MK quote.

To kill Man is to reach Heaven, from where we came before the Doom Drum's iniquity. When we accomplish this, we can escape the mockery and long shame of the Material Prison.

To achieve this goal, we must:

1) Erase the Upstart Talos from the mythic. His presence fortifies the Wheel of the Convention, and binds our souls to this plane.

2) Remove Man not just from the world, but from the Pattern of Possibility, so that the very idea of them can be forgotten and thereby never again repeated.

3) With Talos and the Sons of Talos removed, the Dragon will become ours to unbind. The world of mortals will be over. The Dragon will uncoil his hold on the stagnancy of linear time and move as Free Serpent again, moving through the Aether without measure or burden, spilling time along the innumerable roads we once travelled. And with that we will regain the mantle of the imperishable spirit.
