Nope, with his standard Hunting Rifle he has infinite ammo and it never breaks; if your playing on hardcoe or harder difficulties it's a good idea to stock him with a few stimpaks though.

When you are at later levels,if you give Boone an Anti-Materiel Rifle and armor piercing rounds, he kills everything that tries to come at you.
