Companion carry weight glitch?

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 6:26 pm

I recently noticed that Lydia can no longer seem to carry much of anything at all before she fills up. A quick Google search turned up http://gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/36671/how-much-can-my-follower-carry thread where another player has concluded that switching between followers slowly reduces their carry weight capacity for some reason. Anyone else having similar troubles?

It might also deal with what armor she is wearing.

Good call she does wear steel, however, explain the drop in maximum weight limit she/he can/could carry?

It might also deal with what armor she is wearing.

She's got nothing in her inventory besides her default armor and she's gone from being a reliable pack mule to only being able to carry 3 or so weapons.

A "bug" :whistling: I've noticed is that my companion, Uthgerd the Unbroken, when using the dialogue option to order her around, you can have her pick up as much items as you want with no penalty..really comes in handy in the dwemer areas where you are pickin up those 25lb and 15lb metals.

Also if you are encumbered you can ride your horse and fast travel, however, you cannot ride the wagon rides to other cities while encumbered...strange.

Yeah i just found out about this too and discovered the exact same Thread OP posted.

It does this for me too. I augmented and enchanted my companions armor and when i wanted to give it back I couldnt since the chest piece got greyed out...
There were several other situations where I also couldnt give her stuff back that she was able to carry just a moment ago.

It really seems to drop by 7 every time you take stuff from the companion

This bug happens when you exploit the followers carry weight by ordering them to pick up items. By ordering them to pick up items they can carry unlimited amount of items however once you do this their carry capacity will bug out, don't know how to fix as of now... moral of the story... don't exploit your followers!

nope
didnt do that ...still my companion got bugged...and it seems like the one that discovered this bug (in the link in the OP )also had this problem though he didnt use the pick up stuff exploit......got fed up with it so I increased companions carrying weigth through console so that it is sth around 300 again......also i don't understand why people dont use the console command if they use exploits anyway......exploiting is basically the same as cheating

Have to say that this has been happening to me, too.

I tried to solve it by loading Lydia with Elven armour, which after smithing was far better than what she had but only weighed a fraction of the Dwarven armour she had been wearing. Thing is, it didn't solve the problem. She can still only take a fraction of the weight she used to. Very annoying. Means multiple trips back to locations to loot them fully.

I have never instructed any companion to pick anything up, btw.

If anyone else thinks his game has this problem and is wants to fix it through console...here is how:

1.Open console
2.Click on your companion
3.type: modav carryweight xxx (replace xxx with the amount of capacity you want to add)
4.hit enter and leave console

I am not sure but i think that the command:
setav carryweight 300
should be setting the inventory capacity of your companion back to 300. Havent tried it out though. the modav command does work though.

This is the Xbox 360 forum. There is NO command console on 360.
