Companion Importance in Skyrim

Sometimes I got bored in Oblivion, wondering around... alone.... exploring caves.... alone ... and just always fighting by myself without anything close to what I would call an intelligent AI.

Well, you could always use Atronach familiars if you have Frostcraig spire... and if you are the leader of the Dark Brotherhood/Mages guild you can take a apprentice with you while adventuring.

As for companions, I never used them in Fo3 because they just seemed to die all the time for me. In New Vegas however, I really loved the companions.
(except Rex and Lilly. I killed them because I found them annoying.)

So, I would love to see companions implemented in Skyrim. As long as it's 100% optional.

Yeah I hope there are companions in TES V like there was in Fallout New Vegas, interesting characters with a good story and background.

Companions companions companions..

Each companion must feel unique and play with a specific tactic. Even in Fo NV I hated it when I had the sharpshooter with me and when I started picking of enemies from afar, he just stood there even though the dialogue with him said he will pick enemies of before they see us. Most epic fail ever.

A marksman companion should really run and hide at higher grounds, picking of targets truly before they have seen you. You should be able to talk to them when you see two enemies and say, "you take the left, I'll take the one on the right", instead of them just following you around and when we get spotted, l they attack back.

If beth can't do this in a better way than obsidian did in Fo NV, why bother.

Only if they improve the AI a lot. I usually play sneaky characters, and I don't want my companions to screw up my assassination attempts. =/

You killed Rex?

I will hunt you down.....

On Topic- I would not want FO3 followers but FONV followers.
Huge improvement and they have way more depth in backstory.

If there just some guildmate drone, I won't use them.

I would enjoy seeing varied and in-depth companions.

I like my companions to have stories and depths.

I always end up setting them against the companions from such games as Baldur's Gate I and II, Torment, or even NWN2.

I rather like chatty companions, I like it when they have a mind and an opinion, even when it's not always in line with your own. I like hearing them agree/disagree with a decision you make. etc.

It feels much more real that way.

So long as they have interesting back stories I'd be in favour

Emma's Vilja Companion Mod in OB showed how interesting and compelling a companion could be.

If companions were like those in FO:3, then no. but if they were like FO:NV, I might be interested - although I probably wouldn't use them as much as I did in NV.

Companions can be fun to have around, and they can be a royal pain in the buttoochey. Depends on the character, and depends on how well they're done. The generic apprentice or Knight of the Nine from Oblivion are useless, and I never use them. I don't need mindless help to complete the game, I like companions for the company. Modder's can create excellent companion mods; Kateri's Julan, Emma and Grumpy's Constance (both from Morrowind) come to mind, and I've yet to see a developer created companion that compares. The companions from NV come close, with their quests and personalities. When I'm playing a stealthy character, like a thief or a sniper, I rarely use any companions, because they mess with my sneaky mojo. I wouldn't mind seeing them in Skyrim. I just hope that their AI improves, so that when I'm sneaking, they sneak and stay passive, until I want them to attack.

Fallout 3 style companions at the very least, but preferably with more depth.

Their description of companions made me think of companion share and recruit but without blind devotion. You'll be able to recruit almost any npc based on your character type, alignment and disposition but they will only accompany you for a short time and will only engage in activites/combat at a level they are comfortable with.

Not as in FO3, but as in FONV. May be interested. Always wondered why the game's grand champion has to be such a misanthrope.

Companions get in the way, especially in combat. I don't need help, nor want help.

If companions are added my only hope is that they aren't forced upon us.

I like them but I don't. I like to be able to dump equipment and other things but they seem to just get in the way and annoy me more than they really help me. I would rather have a magical chest that always floats with me to carry things then a companion because that is all I really use them for anyway.

Useless companions that go in shouting while I try to sneak into a well guarded dungeon please no. Armies of easily controllable minions that you can use to siege everything, that would be quite nice.

I would like it if the companions had some personality and the AI was improved. Nothing big near Mass Effect or Dragon Age level, since I don't want to play a dating sim. Even then, adding them to the game would not be a big task for Bethesda and I would be okay (not enthusiastic but content) if they were just like the Oblivion or Fallout 3 companions. What I would really like to see would be 'creature' companions and pack animals. I always found the mods that added pack guars in Morrowind to be extremely useful, along with mods that add pets, undead, or daedra.

Granted, for the pack animals idea to work they would need to put in companion share. Was that feature in Oblivion or Fallout 3?
