Companion predictions

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 1:32 pm

So far we have two confirmed companions, the Dog and Codsworth. I've always thought of the Fallout 3 and New Vegas companions as fitting the same kind of mould and so far Fallout 4 seems to head in the same direction:

The robot:

FO3: Sergeant RL-3

FNV: ED-E

FO4: Codsworth

The dog:

FO3: Dogmeat

FNV: Rex

FO4: Dog(meat?)

The professional tough guy:

FO3: Jericho

FNV: Craig Boone

The not-so-tough guy:

FO3: Butch DeLoria

FNV: Arcade Gannon

The tough chick:

FO3: Clover

FNV: Rose of Sharon Cassidy

The ghoul:

FO3: Charon

FNV: Raul Tejada

The BoS:

FO3: Star Paladin Cross

FNV: Scribe Veronica Santangelo

The super mutant:

FO3: Fawkes

FNV: Lily Bowen

I expect the other roles to fill up in addition to the dog and robot. A lot of people are very fond of ghouls and super mutants so I definitely expect one of each. Same goes for the Brotherhood of Steel, especially since they have a rather prominent role in the gameplay demo. A well-armed 'tough guy' has been in every Fallout to date (Tycho, Cassidy, Jericho, Boone) so that will most likely happen as well. I also expect an android companion, perhaps this game's version of Butch/Arcade, Boone/Jericho or Clover/Cass. And lastly I hope/expect your spouse will eventually become available as a companion.

What do you think? Any expectations, hopes or dreams? Do you think we will be getting eight companions like in FO3 and FNV, or do you expect more/fewer?

I am pretty sure we will get one ghoul and one Supermutant companion. We still don't know what will be Brotherhood role in the new game. And obviously we will meet few human wasteland companions ( maybe even another vault dweller).

Desmond from Point Lookout could fill two roles.Tough guy and ghoul.

He seems to be settling old scores with powerful political enemies.Boston has a famous political family as I recall.

Are we even sure Codsworth is a companion? I don't remember his dialog reflecting that as an option at all. He seems like he'd fill the roll of your typical player home Mr Handy instead of being a combat-ready follower.

for some reason the ghoul is always the best character, i hope there is a wise-cracking snarky ghoul we can bring along again this time around

I think the point they are trying to make is that the dog isn't as stupid as prior dogs. Generally dogs in FO (and Skyrim) were useless. They made some effort to change that and have shown us some of the tricks he can do.

Personally I can't wait to have him go into that radioactive waste pool to get that item laying in the middle, or walk through the land mines to fetch a ammo case, etc. He(?) might actually be useful this time around for things other than combat.

Yeah and now the dog can do that also, so better for dogs and those players that actually like them. If you don't like dogs then don't worry about. Just shoot the thing when you see it. It may not be essential until after it joins you.

As far as vanilla followers, if they put some effort into improving the dog we would have to assume they did the same with other followers. They had plenty of feedback to review from FO3 and Skyrim's followers.

And our son could fit into literally any one of those categories.

Found this on Reddit: http://imgur.com/ziw6tgD

That could very well be our super mutant companion. It definitely seems like he's fighting on the PC's side. :)

The Android:

You come across a woman that has been tortured and [censored] by raiders. At this point neither you or she knows that she is an android. After killing the raiders, their leader escapes using a stealthboy, you can then go through a medicine check to help her. She is not yet a companion. You can choose to leave her after saving her or bring her to your settlement. After a short time ingame she will recover and thank you for saving her. With a speech check you can convince her to travel with you to become stronger, and promise her you two will track down the raider leader at his base of operations.

After talking with her a lot and doing X amount of quests you become friends with the option for a romance. After some more time you get the quest to go find and kill the raider leader who tortured her. After having done so the raider leader taunts her, telling her she is a synth. She is in disbelief, so the next quest is going to the MiT to confirm this. An MiT scientist confirms it, but states she is also their creation and property - and demands her back. You can betray her and hand her over for a large amount of caps. Or you can purchase her freedom with either barter or speech. If you grant her her freedom you continue the relationship (either as just friends or lovers), but at some point she can't handle the existential crisis of being a synth. You need to pass a speech test to convince her to not self-terminate or to go through a mind-wipe by accepting her for who she is. The best ending is achieved by talking to an MiT researcher again that will offer to install half a "wiped" real human brain with working neurons in bio-gel, which will connect to her android brain's super advanced AI. This fusion of real life biology and tech makes her as human as possible - with real personality and feelings - without losing her android identity.

Hopefully you can take Codsworth with you, of course he would need to be heavily repaired/upgraded and have combat protocols installed. There is a reason the Mister Gutsy is used in combat roles  Early on I dont think the character will have the tech level to do something like that. I think he would be much better off patrolling a built settlement or home base.

I do have a softspot for Super Mutants I do, but I think FO3 gave us a pretty good one in Fawkes. Im not sure FO3 wants to replicate that type of character per se (and am not even sure FEV might even get a mention this game) A Ghoul companion would be awesome, Charon was interesting if a little one dimensional. I think you can just get more .. situational dialogue with a Ghoul and on the social acceptability scale you are gonna be far better off with a Ghoul than a Super Mutant (who may not even be allowed in some of the larger settlements.

As a side note, I really like the new design of the mutants. I hate the mutant companions in FNV/Fo3 because they looked like the dentist just said "[censored] it" mid way through their examinations.

It is what I wanted from a possible Android companion. It is the current basic idea of the android mod I will be writing if Bethesda does not implement one themselves.

Love the idea. Would definitely want that mod. Course it will be neigh to impossible to add a complex mod without the original voice actor to do all the dialog. :(

Android companion is likely, and I think would be pretty cool to have a combat blasted companion I can roleplay as being my terminator protector.

Dogmeat, dog's pretty beast... tearing out raiders throats... might actually take the dog as a companion.

Supermutant companion: Pretty much a given...

Ghoul: Might be the Redcoat we've seen in concept art.

BoS: We might have a choice to join them, or destroy them... or we just find one who's not a dike to the pc.

It won't stop me regardless. I can handle my protagonist being silent for only that dialogue. But I can already see the complaints on the nexus: "WHY DIDNT YOU GET HOLD OF THE VA??? Crap mod".
