Companion Update?

Is there going to be an update for the Companions to not svck so much? I've been a lone Warrior since the beginning of the game because they always get me attacked, block door ways, and keep me at detected when sneaking around. Can you guys make them like the other players in ESO and allow us to walk through them?

Also, add some common sense to them so that if we're sneaking they hug the corners and hide instead of standing there in the middle of the room getting us shot at.

It would be cool to have a someone who compliments your character's play style though. Like if I'm sneaking my companion is sneaking as well and when an enemy gets up close my companion will grab them and execute them with a melee weapon, all while maintaining our stealth.

I'm guessing you've never played another Bethesda game. Companions have always had those tendencies and can never sneak. I don't know why Beth designs them that way, but, apparently they can't get out of the habit. Just be grateful there aren't any serious "pushes me off the cliff" issues like there were in Skyrim.

Still, my all time favorite companions are the suicidal cliff jumpers in Dragon's Dogma. At least Bethesda never did that.

Oddly, Dogmeat on this playthrough is being particularly suicidal though. He keeps falling out windows and from high floors while I take the stairs. You are weird Dogmeat.

It would be cool to have a companion that compliments your playstyle, but, it's Beth. Good luck with that.

I am hoping for the Fallout 4 version of the Skyrim UFO mod; Ultimate Follower Overhaul.

While they are far from what i wud desire them to be, they still semm to have improved a little compared to Fo3 or Skyrim but as said plenty of room for further improvment left.

Things I would like to see (either a mod or (gasp!) QoL improvements from Beth):

  • Some way to indicate follow distance of more than 2 feet (I get this may cause issues with the current command / trade / dialog method).

  • Some way to set an aggression setting.

  • Some way to allow the trade menu to open up while their stupid response are being played.

(So pretty much most of the New Vegas companion wheel improvements)

When sneaking your companion does not engage until either they are spotted and shot at, or you begin engaging. Granted this is a late game fix but putting a stealth boy mod in their power armor is amazing if you are a sniper.

For early game you just have to snipe from a distance. Also just because they are seen doesn't mean that you are, you can still get sneak attack damage when an enemy is attacking your companion but has not seen you yet.

what you do is make them wait when you enter a building right at the front door. they wont engage and they wont give you away either. if you need them or about to enter another area you only need line of sight to ask them to follow you again.

My biggest issue (and this is usually with Piper) is that I'll be lining up a shot with my sniper rifle and just before I fire Piper's big butt suddenly fills my scope view. Generally I'll fire anyway out of frustration. I wouldn't mind if this happened once or twice, but it tends to happen half the time. The other half of the time she'll charge those I'm trying to pop off without being seen and bring them to me. She did this once when I was trying to clear out some super mutants in a settlement. I'm sitting on a hill, far distance, just started sniping some, and Piper runs down the hill, gets their attention and suddenly they're all charging me and lobbing grenades and rockets at me.

But, I've just learned that if I'm going to sit and so some sniping to first sit Piper down somewhere and tell her to stay. Stay Piper. Good girl.

I like the companions in Dragon Age. They, at least could do things on their own.
