[RELZ] Companion Vilja - release thread 2

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 10:57 am

Tajond, I think maybe you misunderstood me (or rather, I was very unclear) because her health is set to your maximum health, not to your current health. in the first version it was set to 85 % of your health.

I'm not sure how an eat, drank and sleep mod might affect her, probably not at all. I suggest you just try the 72 hours trick, and make sure she isn't wearing anything with constant magical effects when you leave her.

Tack s? mycket! :) Thank you, it's good to know you appreaciate my work. Hope you will also love Vilja, then.

quote tnu

"You look tired... maybe we should take a break and rest?" :)

Oh yes, I have heard her saying that, too...
There is an increased chance that she will say it late in the evenings, but many times I wonder, myself, if she has something more than just a simple AI up in her head. She tends to say exactly the right thing at exactly the right moment.

Yesterday, I was testing some of her features and was planning to go swimming with her. As we were approaching the beach, she suddenly charged ahead, killed two mudcrabs and then continued out in the water and killed of a slaughterfish.

She returned to me and said: "How about mud crabs for dinner?" Followed by: "I do like swimming, but I hate those slaughterfishes".

Sufficient to say that I'm thoroughly creeped out as well, from time to time. :)

just one question. if she is from Morrowind why is she a Nord and not a Dunmer?

Hi Emma Yes I did misunderstand you  I did have the older version and have since upgraded to the 1.02 and she was still in constant heal mode.

So I have Vilja resting comfortably at home :snoring: and i made sure she understood to stay away from anything magical for 3 days and NO visitors. :whisper:

Oh, yes... like that time after a battle with a horde of dremoras... almost no HP left, armor and weapons heavily battered... Oblivion gate flaming... red skies with thunder... and her.

"Beautiful day, isn't it?"

Not sure how much I should give away, for those who haven't played long enough to know about her background (you will learn more and more about it the longer you know her). But, Vilja was born and grew up in Solstheim, and island north-west of the Vvardenfell mainland (the area where the Morrowind expansion Bloodmoon takes place). This cold forest-covered area is inhabited by nords. The last years in Morrowind, she spent in the Vvardenfel metropol Vivec, helping her sister to set up an alchemy store there.

Even if the majority of people in Morrowind are dunmers there are quite a few of the other races, too. Especially imperials, of course, but also nords, who have strong colonies in especially Dagon Fel and Khuul. I imagine that the majority of them has come to Vvardenfell from Solstheim, as there is a daily boat passage in Khuul, connecting the islands.

.....and of course, the other reason why she is nord is that I am scandinavian, so I felt having her a nord would make my accent more acceptable. And the other reason why she is from Morrowind is that I couldn't resist this opportunity to talk with fondness about my all time favorite game and my favorite part of Tamriel :). (I truly appreciate Oblivion as well - else I wouldn't mod for it! - but Morrowind will probably always remain a little bit closer to my heart :)).

... now I better stop, because Vilja and her background as well as Morrowind and Morrowind lore are subjects that I could go rambling on about over and over and over again...

(thinking over appropriate reply to this...)

Uhmm... she's a lunatic? (scrap that one, wasn't good...)

Uhm... she's a nord? (bloodthirsty, enjoys a good fight as much as her mead...)

Uhm.... the sun *is* shining and you *are* not dead (yet), and you have just picked up a whole bunch of lovely loot that she knows you will turn into new outfits for her at first opportunity? (sounds like a good one...)

(Seriously, I could probably filter the comments so that this shouldn't happen, but.. I kinda like that with her as well - when her sometimes so appropriate comments are replaced with the most ill-fitting possibly things to say: Emma "This is our new home Vilja" Vilja: "Oh, wonderful, can I refurnish it?" Emma: "Sure". Vilja: "Oh Great! Thank you. I'm sure I will love it here". Silence. Vilja: "This place is boring, lets go somewhere else".)

As I mentioned 1 or 2 pages ago, a new version of Vilja is in the works

There was one thing I was wondering about. Two players have mentioned incidents where Vilja's dialog would override spoken quest-related dialog:

Quote
When we were clearing up the hautend Anvilhouse and Lorgren Benirus started talking (begging for his hand) with his ghostly voice... she suddenly pvssyred in between about a drunken Nord and other nice stories, so that Lorgren's voice couldn't be heard anymore, nor his subtitles be seen, but hers.
If somebody doesn't know the story - he will never hear about it. She talked him to death!

Quote
She was pvssyring while Malacath was talking too ..

Does anyone know of other quests where similar incidents could happen? If so, please tell me which quests to check... It would be great to avoid as much possible problems as possible...

Can't tell about Anvil House... but yes, she pvssyrs regardless of whoever else is talking, be it even a Daedra Lord . *Any* Daedra Lord, not just Malakath. Normally I never tell her to shut up (I try to be patient with cute ladies ), but sometimes she really abuses her freedom of speech.

You sound like the true gentleman, Kir!
Probably more than what this little not-so-lady-like lady deserves!

Will look in to this :). It usually has bad side-effects to tell women to shut up, so if she can learn to keep quite at times, that's probably a good thing.

Yay! That good ol' 72-hours bug/feature seems to be (almost) as reliable in Oblivion as it always was in Morrowind. :)

Not so much talking at inappropriate vanilla quest times (mostly because my character has already done all he is going to do) ... but I do wish she would shut up about the Madstone. It may be random, but that dialogue topic seems to come up with annoying regularity--and my PC finished that quest long ago.

That's great, I really need this kind of help to track down details that I might not be aware of. :)

In this particular case, another player already made me aware of the issue, and it turned out that I had filtered the dialog entry for the wrong quest-name - no wonder she kept on chatting about it! So, it will definitely be cured in next version. :)

Has she finally stopped talking about the Draconian Madstone (Countess of Bruma is a collector of akaviri...BE QUIET WOMAN!) even after the quest is complete?

Okay, Hat, read up a little before posting.

No, I'm sorry, Hattix, not yet :).

I didn't think this little thing would be so irritating for players that it would validate an extra update. If there are more similar things, I could make an extra update, of course... :)

It's okay, I fixed it myself.

She now checks for quests done before/after mentioning any of them. Shouldn't be too hard to tag the trainers to stop her advising me about Vanardo while I'm in his shop.

I have filtered the trainers-pvssyring like you suggested, Hattix :).

As said before, good call - it's much appreciated to get the feedback, I might not have thought of this myself.

Maybe something else that someone else would like to add in regarding odd dialog filters? As she has so much to talk about, I might not see might not see everything while testing.

I've really been enjoying her pvssyr. She's so funny! And surprisingly she makes a good companion for my character Naz. It gives me a laugh when she teases Naz about his lacking combat and sneaking skills.

Glad to hear that, Phaedra :)
...and I'm sure that Naz is better than her at both sneaking and combat

I have a question.

One player has told me that he is having a problem with the Vilja summon spell regularly causing CTDs. He says it's the same in his wifes game and in his two daughters games (all of them are using Vilja, I believe they play on the same computer).

Has anyone else had a problem with this, or is it just related to the mod setup this family is using?

Her summon spell is a standard one, i.e. pretty much the same as every non CM companion uses.

I've used it without any problems. Amoz uses a spell just like it that I've also never had any problems with.

Haven't really had occasion to summon her ... so far my character has kept track of where he's left her, as he gets a little worried about what she might be up to. :hubbahubba: Does him good, I say ... he's always been Mr. Irresponsible.. :slap:
(I ran a quick check to see if it's working, and she summoned just fine ... although she did immediately initiate dialog as soon as she landed. I'm wondering if that might have something to do with his crashes, if he has another mod that is trying to do something else at the same time.)

Good to know... I haven't experienced any crashes either, neither has the guys playtesting the upgraded version.

But, it's good to ask around, so I'm grateful for more feedback on this :)

daemondarque, the activating of the player happens automatically because Vilja is using a find-AI-package to get to him/her. I believe every companion mod with summoning uses this technique. I could think of one alternate approach but I think that would be more unstable. So, although I appreciate your idea as food for thought, I do hope you are wrong ;)
