[RELZ] Companion Vilja

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 9:45 pm

Yes I know

she actually often has multiple ways to respond to questions, depending to her mood, disposition towards you, how well she knows you, and/or just random 100. I think this particular response is based on random 100. That she sometimes thinks you insinuates that she isn't 'sophisticated' enough for another hairstyle. Or maybe that was some other question...

What if you answer yes? Nothing happens right? Can you change hairstyles on the fly?

Of course not :biglaugh:

did you ever meet a girl who would change her hairstyle on the fly because you asked her to do so? ;)

Emma, I was wondering what you voiced acted in this game? I all dialog voiced and if so for only Emma or others? I was going to take a look at the sound files to see if I could clean them up because I am noticing a lot of popping and buzzing when talking to Emma. I just got her so I don't know if there are other voiced people in this mod.

That's odd - I've been playing this mod since the earliest beta and haven't noticed any popping or buzzing. As far as player-made voice acting goes, the sound quality's about as good as it gets, I think.

During testing, I checked out some of the mp3s, dry (not in the game) and was actually surprised at how good the quality was. No room ambience, no hum (AC power or "mains") and no hiss. There is the occasionally a popping of p's but that's it. As for buzz, I've not heard it.

If you clean up an mp3, that would involve re-encoding which can introduce artifacts.

Huh odd I thought this was one of the better voice acted companions no weird sounds on my end.

Huh, maybe there is something wrong with my sound card. I sure hope not as I just bought it. The voice acting is far superior to most mods out there, but I am hearing buzz and popping when the initial sound file starts.

Initial sound? Hmmm.

That sounds like something I used to get on my older system: hard disk access would sometimes "bleed" into the audio. It happening only on Vilja's audio seems odd ... but perhaps the game voices, being packed in a bsa (instead of on the hard drive as individual files) makes a difference? Just a theory.

This computer cost me over $2500 to build. It has the best parts on the marker except for the graphics card since I am waiting for Nvidia's directX 11 graphics cards to come out so I can do 4 way SLI. My sound card is the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro Series and it shouldn't have any issues with audio. Maybe being in the digital media department of my school and having a background in audio editing is just making me notice things more lol!

I don't know much about technical audio-stuff, so I won't go into that. But I was actually quite happy with the quality, and really happy over the kind words that people have said about the voice-acting.

I would personally be reluctant to rework +1500 .mp3-files to get rid of possible popping and buzzing, unless they are horribly annoying.

To answer your original question... I have been voice-acting only Vilja, i.e. the soundfiles in the nord/female folder. There are other voices included as well, but these have been made of a relative of mine. Some of them, in particular those in the highelf-file, do have a background-buzz. I have tried to edit them, but some problems do remain.

Yes, I agree, it could easily be done :)
but it would be rather out-of-character for a person like Vilja ;).

I meant no offense, the quality like I said is far superior to most other mods out there with voice acting. I was just curious to see if I could remove some of the noise I was hearing. If I ever try it and am successful I will let you know in case you want access to them.

Also, you might wanna check our your motherboard's support forum (if such exists) and see if it has any known issues with the X-fi. (Mine initially did, but a combination of BIOS and Windows (Vista) updates eventually fixed it.)

Did I miss seeing your OS listed anywhere? Is it either Vista or Windows7? If so, do you have Creative Alchemy and an Alchemy profile for Oblivion, so that game can take advantage of the soundcard's hardware acceleration? Don't know that that's your problem, but if you haven't installed Alchemy it's worth a shot. Ah, didn't think to try that. I have Windows 7 64bit and I have no idea about the Alchemy. Not sure if it is installed or not. How can I check this?

Yikes! I did a bit of research intending to get you some solid links the Alchemy. What I found instead were complaints that Alchemy is not (yet?) working right with Windows7. Ignore my recommendation to use it for the time being. For more info just do a search for "Windows 7 Creative Alchemy" in your browser. (Alchemy still works okay with Vista, btw.)

OK then. That solves that problem. Back on topic. I love this companion mod, is there a way to open a menu or something to tell Vilja what to wear exactly? I have a mod that allows robes over armor and I like the robe I found her in, was hoping I could have her wear it over her armor.

Emma, I just wanted to say thank you for Vilja. I have been playing for a couple of hours with her now. One of the first things she said to me after we left The Bloated Float was something like, "My mom told me about guys like you". Shortly afterward, as we strolled by Divine Elegance in the Market District, she suddenly decided she wanted to go shopping and went inside on her own. I followed her inside. She bought a blue outfit while she was there. Vilja is a great companion. She talks much, but it is very entertaining and often funny. I'm going to introduce her to my longtime companion Neeshka pretty soon. I wonder how that will turn out.

You mean a personal and a public inventory like in Ramy's Enfant?

No, I haven't included that, as I have understood this easily gets buggy if not done correctly. And, to be honest, after looking at Ramy's script, my head was spinning so badly that I decided to leave it out for right now. After all, it's my first try at an Oblivion companion, and I felt it was better not to try to include more cosmetic features than I felt I could handle... :)

So, at least for the moment, you have to dress her up the 'normal' way, by adding and removing things from her inventory, like with most other companions.

I'm glad you like her :)

I was wondering when/if someone was going to comment on that her sometimes decides to 'do her own thing', like running of to a shop or a tavern.
Hopefully it should happen rarely enough to be amusing rather than irritating - I have filtered it so it can only happen at distinct times and distinct places. And, who knows, at times she might even buy some things for you.

(Note that you can also ask her to go and do some shopping for you - but you cannot decide what she will buy. You will have to trust her judgement. Which will sometimes be an excellent idea, and sometimes a very bad decision).

I'm sure she and Neeshka will get along fine... Neeshka is a constant part of my game, and I'm genuinely fond of her, especially as it was she that originally inspired me to start out on Vilja :)

Just note one thing... because of how Neeshka's wait-command is set up, she is unable to smalltalk with Vilja until a certain amount of time has passed (72 hours). This is the wait-command when she has her armor on - if she is in your home and wandering around without armor, she and Vilja will have things to talk about.

Yes, you were right... I started on Vilja already in august, but as I didn't know anything at all about Oblivion modding, it took some time to learn the new construction set. So I managed to released some housemods before she was ready for release... I think I hinted a little about her in the release-thread for the houses :). Else, I enjoy to 'work in silence', so very few people knew about Vilja until a brief while before the release.

I hope you will find her as good company as my Morrowind companions :)

Actually she told me she bought something for me when I followed her inside, but for the life of me I couldn't figure out what it was. I hadn't looked over her inventory all that closely in the beginning so I couldn't easily tell what had changed.
