You know you have fallen for her charm .. when you start looking for armor mod and making sure that it have pretty female version but you yourself plays as a male mage and unarmored; Not to mention, you didnt even bother to download any mod that adds male clothing for your own character :P

Heh. Yes, I've also become a bit Barbified by Vilja, looking for a nice but decent nightie for her, getting her the latest in bikini fashion etc. My char has gone from fighting OOO bosses to playing with a virtual paper doll. :o

Well, she still fights OOO bosses, but only after Vilja is satisfied with her outfit...

Awesome, I had a thought to make something like this myself, but I'm way out of practice with the CS, so I'm very glad you beat me to it.

I'll throw it in my game right away and let you know how it works for me. With my current setup, I stay in inns almost every night all over Cyrodiil, so it shouldn't be long before I see some results.

I've gotten pretty efficient at sleeping at Inns with Vilja, since I use HTS(Hunger, Thirst, Sleep) and I feel more in char for my PC to sleep at Inns rather than the guilds (where the beds are usually crowded anyway).

Vilja always showed a preference for my bedroll over her own, and I found that if I first put my bedroll down in the Inn room where I am going to sleep, then wait 'til midnight (when she normally wants to sleep) and ask her if she wants to sleep she will promptly curl up on my bedroll without complaint. Additionally, since I sometimes end up getting the room before midnight and hate wasting potential sleep time (since I use HTS) I will sleep the neccessary number of hours until midnight (10pm, sleep for 2 hours, etc.), wake up, then tell her to go to sleep. Sleeping till about 7 or 8 am gives my char plenty sleep and usually she will wake up on her own around 8am. I still feel a little guilty that she doesn't sleep in the bed, but hey, it's a good workaround! Maybe it will work for you. :shrug:

Oh dear... you have to adjust for a night-owl! :D. It's very kind of your to set the alarm for midnight in order to make sure that also Vilja gets some rest! I'm not sure if I should even say this, but... as she isn't a real person, I'm sure that if you sleep from when you want to go to bed and until after 7 (when she leaves bed) she will still be there in your room, fresh and ready for a new days adventuring. (The problem could be if you get up at a time when she is asleep and she has decided to sleep behind a locked door).

I wouldn't mind trying it out. I had an idea about this, though:

I may not understand the bed issue fully (b/c I know player house beds work, but inn beds don't for some reason), but would it be possible to change inn beds to be usable by a certain faction (Adventurer or Traveller or something like that - but something not used for anything else) add faction membership to the player and to companions to the player? And to avoid companion mods from needing compatibility patches, a spell or dialogue option could be given to the player that adds that faction membership to companions so they can then use the inn beds. I mean, it should work in theory right? It works for the guild halls, so... I know I could be missing something, but is there any reason why this shouldn't work?

CDCooley already explained about the beds, but the point is that normally there is only one available bed in the room in the inn. So even if ownership is removed from it, there is not enough room for both you and Vilja to get some sleep and a bedroll might not be in everyones inventory. So I have added extra beds or temporary unlocked doors to other rooms with beds without ownership. It's really not a 'fancy' mod, I just thought it would be practical for companion users.

I was travelling with Vilja and told her to ride her horse, which she did (she was always complaining about not riding in the 1st version, but I don't use horses any more (and I was just trying out the new features))

Anyhow, we got attacked by wolves so she jumped off and we duely killed them. As this happened, a travelling suppliers merchant (from crowded roads) wandered over the brow of the hill, go on Bruse, and carried on!!!!! :shocking:

Vilja started following him, but couldn't get on him, obviously. It was both funny and disconcerting simmultainiously. As we were next to our destination, I just ran off and Vilja followed me. We're not quite out of the dungeon yet, so it'll be interesting to see what happens. I'm assuming I'll tell her to ride, and she'll summon Bruse again.

PS I've heard of this before, but it happened to a player owned horse, which is much more serious!

I'm actually not sure if Vilja can summon a horse that someone else is using. It may be that it won't work or that you'll even have a CTD. However, I'm convinced that after +72 game hours Bruse will be summonable again. So worst scenario is that you have to wait that amount of time before you can use him again.

Emma the InnSleeping mod, will that eventually be released as an optional extra or included within vilja?

Also I have to agree with some of the comments reference potentially losing vilja, I like the danger of Vilja in non-essential mode, but sometimes I am very tempted to make her essential. My family are the same, for the desktop vilja has been made essential because no-one can bare the thought one day vilja might be gone. For the youngster in particular, loss of her favourite advanced barbie doll would be awful. There ought to be a Cyrodiil wide rumour if she dies "My commiserations, we are so sorry for your loss".

Where's Freud when you need him, study of the endearing psychologically effects of an in-game companion. :)

P.S - I showed them all the recent Xtudo options available on tesnexus, they unanimously chose Original Vilja. Personally I am modifying Custom which will eventually be a lot closer to what I want to achieve.

Does anyone else experience a CTD when Vilja summons her horse? The first time she summons Bruse, the spell works without crashing but thereafter I get a CTD if she tries to summon him.

Wonderful mod, thanks Emma!
The first time the CTD happened and I couldn't find a root cause I removed her from my mod list but I found that I missed her comments during my wandering so much that I had to re-install. For me, Vilja is a must-have mod now.
Thank you very much for all the hard work you (and others) put into this mod.

Wonderful mod, thanks Emma!
The first time the CTD happened and I couldn't find a root cause I removed her from my mod list but I found that I missed her comments during my wandering so much that I had to re-install. For me, Vilja is a must-have mod now.
Thank you very much for all the hard work you (and others) put into this mod.


You may have skipped one of Duke Patricks install instructions, particularly the clean save routine when upgrading any of his mods that require it. Missing that step can cause the problem. To resolve it, just un-install Duke Patricks mods, load your game, wait for around a minute, then save. Re-install duke patricks mods and play on.

I have known Actors can miss now, and Combat archery to be the cause of this.

Does anyone else experience a CTD when Vilja summons her horse? The first time she summons Bruse, the spell works without crashing but thereafter I get a CTD if she tries to summon him.

I'm glad to hear that Vilja adds so much to your game that you want to sort this out rather than dumping her :)

I think we can sort this out - I think I have spotted the problem in here:

If you haven't got the very latest version of these (released only a few days ago) these mods will cause problems when summoning any companion horse, and sometimes also the companion. Also, if you have other mods by Duke Patrick in your list (I didn't check the full list once I have found these known causes) you might want to look for recent upgrades of them as well.
If you upgrade to the latest version, the problems should be gone. There are a number of posts about this either early in this thread or somewhere in the Vilja release thread no 2 (gosh, who would have believed that she would catch so much interest that we would be on thread 3 after only 4 weeks!), but I very much realize why it's not reasonable to expect anyone to go through all these posts :).

I hope and believe this will help, and that you won't have any further problems with Vilja and CTDs.

Heh. Yes, I've also become a bit Barbified by Vilja, looking for a nice but decent nightie for her, getting her the latest in bikini fashion etc. My char has gone from fighting OOO bosses to playing with a virtual paper doll. :o

Well, she still fights OOO bosses, but only after Vilja is satisfied with her outfit...



I think there are many, many Barbiefied players out there - either using companions or Barbiefying their own character :). Else there wouldn't be so many, many sixy outfits and armors out there (although I still wonder how a chainmail bikini which basically only covers nothing is supposed to give any AR? Maybe by temporary draining the intelligence of (male) enemies? :D)

Hopefully Vilja is as good at helping out in fights with OOO bosses as she is good at looking gorgeous in the latest Cyrodiil fashion ;).

If it works properly and you find it useful, I will make it available as a stand-alone mod. It works equally well with other companions as it does with Vilja, and from what I have understood, there doesnt already exist any such mod, so it could come in handy for companions users in general.

Also I have to agree with some of the comments reference potentially losing vilja, I like the danger of Vilja in non-essential mode, but sometimes I am very tempted to make her essential. My family are the same, for the desktop vilja has been made essential because no-one can bare the thought one day vilja might be gone. For the youngster in particular, loss of her favourite advanced barbie doll would be awful. There ought to be a Cyrodiil wide rumour if she dies "My commiserations, we are so sorry for your loss".

Where's Freud when you need him, study of the endearing psychologically effects of an in-game companion. :)


I also always run her non-essential, and am terrifyed that something would happen to her. Still, I found it even scarier with Constance and Wolf Companion Spot in Morrowind. In Oblivion, there after all exist a companion resurrect mod that will do the trick should the worst happen! In Morrowind, it was an instant reload... but I felt horrible the whole evening afterwards, because I hadn't been better at protecting my friends.

P.S - I showed them all the recent Xtudo options available on tesnexus, they unanimously chose Original Vilja. Personally I am modifying Custom which will eventually be a lot closer to what I want to achieve.


I think that the original head, i.e. the original Oblivion head mesh, better shows expressions than any of the other head meshes I have seen. So it may be that using or modifying an alternate Vilja to ones personal taste will improve her looks... but maybe a tad bit of her personality will vanish in the process. To me, the original Vilja will always be the one I use, but I know that people truly enjoy to tinker on the looks of their companions, and then Xtudo's work provides an excellent base.

:lmao: I also play a mage and I have at least 3 BABarized armor mods just for Vilja to use eventually. I don't wear armor myself and rarely even have to draw a weapon (too busy slinging fireballs and lightning bolts :D ) so I spend more time by far shopping armor and weapons for Vilja than my own char! In return she gathers ingredients for me during our travels (and is a fine potion maker in her own right).

Oh dear... you have to adjust for a night-owl! :D. It's very kind of your to set the alarm for midnight in order to make sure that also Vilja gets some rest! I'm not sure if I should even say this, but... as she isn't a real person, I'm sure that if you sleep from when you want to go to bed and until after 7 (when she leaves bed) she will still be there in your room, fresh and ready for a new days adventuring. (The problem could be if you get up at a time when she is asleep and she has decided to sleep behind a locked door).

Not a real person?!? And here I've been waiting for her to jump out the computer and make those strawberry pies she's always talking about! :o

Naw, it's fine; for some reason, for immersion purposes it always bothers me if I know my companions have been hanging around in the room while I sleep... ironically, I am more like Vilja in real life (a nite owl) so my char may actually get more sleep than I do. :blush:

And yes, I've had to pick the lock of more than one inn door to rescue Vilja from her chosen bedroom! Just to give you an idea of the difficulty I currently have a spell which unlocks only Easy locks (wont work on inn doors) my Security is now 9 (all because of Vilja - probably started at 5) and I am using a lock mod that hides the tumblers, so you have to rely on the sound to pick locks. Needless to say, I'll be ugrading my spell soon.

Oh - but better yet. Once, at Jerrall View in Bruma, I suggested Vilja eat something before moving on and she kept trying to get in this one room in the Basemant. I thought it was just a pathing issue so I ignored it and continued to leave, thinking she'd follow. I actually like that she is not essential, if she dies it should feel like a proper failure. I've had her die twice on me and immediately reloaded. Yesterday i actually managed to decapitate her by accident, i got a crit on her and lopped her head off..... i literally went nooooooooooooooooooooooo irl. I had to quit the game and take a sec to get myself together. The fact deadly reflex bugged out and froze the game because of the quest update in head chopping animation bug i felt i could lay the blame on that lol. But yeah it's weird how attached you become to her.

Thanks for the advice Emma and alt3rn1ty, that did the trick. Finally I can go riding with Vilja again!
As an aside, I use http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=26196 to change the default scripted spell icon - with it you can use any inventory item as your spell icon. For the 'Summon Vilja' spell, I use . . . a strawberry. :wink_smile:

I'd really like to have her set as non-essential because that would add strategy/danger/immersion to the game, but it's basically impossible when using FCOM. I still feel bad when she's "killed", though, so I often ask her to wait while I clear out the boss section of a dungeon etc. But she can be killed in seconds just walking around in the wilderness so having her non-essential would mean constant reloading, which isn't much better than having her essential. For example, we happened upon two Barbarians (from MMM) when walking about in the woods and Vilja was killed twice while fighting one of them. And those are among the easier enemies.

I might try buffing her up a bit instead in order to make it more viable to have her set as non-essential with FCOM.

Yeah i am playing vanilla so there is no risk of 1-2 hit kills, i also have her set to avoid fighting so she unless she gets hit by spell or something i will have taken aggro before she attacks, as long as she doesn't get hit first she wont attack until i am below 50% health and by then i have aggro of all mobs. If she kept dying i would make her essential myself. I wish she could be set to not help me until i was really close to death though, like 10% or something. Cause i rarely get into a fight where i stay above 50%.

I haven't tried it with her set to avoid fighting actually, but I'll try that - sounds just about perfect actually.

EDIT: That doesn't work out so well with FCOM as most enemies still go for Vilja - and it takes her longer to start defending herself. It works fine in itself as she starts defending my char when under 50% health etc.

I meant to post light night before bed, but I was too tired so I slept.

After installing the inn beds esp, first stop was the Roxey Inn. Vilja had no trouble sleeping in the extra bedroll; unfortunately, she had to share it with my luggage (from COBL). http://i30.tinypic.com/20kpx5t.jpg

The next night, however, I spent in the basemant of the Mages Guild, and was surprised to find her complain of no suitable bed (after walking against the locked bedroom door for a while - I'll have to try again after I do the quest there).

Else there wouldn't be so many, many sixy outfits and armors out there (although I still wonder how a chainmail bikini which basically only covers nothing is supposed to give any AR? Maybe by temporary draining the intelligence of (male) enemies? :D)

It also drains willpower and serves to distract the targeting skills.:)

I'm glad to hear that Vilja adds so much to your game that you want to sort this out rather than dumping her :)

The only thing I would like to *dump* is Vilja's personalized quotes into tes4dump and save these just in case I forgot them. :evil:
There are a number of posts about this either early in this thread or somewhere in the Vilja release thread no 2 (gosh, who would have believed that she would catch so much interest that we would be on thread 3 after only 4 weeks!), but I very much realize why it's not reasonable to expect anyone to go through all these posts :).

When you release the Companion Vilja mod last year there was something new and different that caught the attention of this mod, so I guess you should definitely be proud over you self. :)

Anyway, I can share two similar quotes that she say when someone attack me (PC - female nord);

The most enjoyable companion there is in Cyrodiil in my opinion. Thanks Emma. :)

:lmao: I also play a mage and I have at least 3 BABarized armor mods just for Vilja to use eventually. I don't wear armor myself and rarely even have to draw a weapon (too busy slinging fireballs and lightning bolts :D ) so I spend more time by far shopping armor and weapons for Vilja than my own char! In return she gathers ingredients for me during our travels (and is a fine potion maker in her own right).

Well, that's of course the ultimate goal with the mod... However, we have problems implementing this. She can jump out of the computer all right, but there's no way to stop her from eating all the strawberries instead of making the pie. ;D


Naw, it's fine; for some reason, for immersion purposes it always bothers me if I know my companions have been hanging around in the room while I sleep... ironically, I am more like Vilja in real life (a nite owl) so my char may actually get more sleep than I do. :blush:


...but on the other hand, he probably needs more sleep, as he has spent the days throwing fireballs at enemies, which I do hope you haven't (well, not outside Oblivion anyway)

And yes, I've had to pick the lock of more than one inn door to rescue Vilja from her chosen bedroom! Just to give you an idea of the difficulty I currently have a spell which unlocks only Easy locks (wont work on inn doors) my Security is now 9 (all because of Vilja - probably started at 5) and I am using a lock mod that hides the tumblers, so you have to rely on the sound to pick locks. Needless to say, I'll be ugrading my spell soon.

Oh - but better yet. Once, at Jerrall View in Bruma, I suggested Vilja eat something before moving on and she kept trying to get in this one room in the Basemant. I thought it was just a pathing issue so I ignored it and continued to leave, thinking she'd follow. I actually like that she is not essential, if she dies it should feel like a proper failure. I've had her die twice on me and immediately reloaded. Yesterday i actually managed to decapitate her by accident, i got a crit on her and lopped her head off..... i literally went nooooooooooooooooooooooo irl. I had to quit the game and take a sec to get myself together. The fact deadly reflex bugged out and froze the game because of the quest update in head chopping animation bug i felt i could lay the blame on that lol. But yeah it's weird how attached you become to her.


You can chop heads off with Deadly Reflex? Hmm... never knew that...


Thanks for the advice Emma and alt3rn1ty, that did the trick. Finally I can go riding with Vilja again!
As an aside, I use http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=26196 to change the default scripted spell icon - with it you can use any inventory item as your spell icon. For the 'Summon Vilja' spell, I use . . . a strawberry. :wink_smile:

I haven't tried it with her set to avoid fighting actually, but I'll try that - sounds just about perfect actually.

EDIT: That doesn't work out so well with FCOM as most enemies still go for Vilja - and it takes her longer to start defending herself. It works fine in itself as she starts defending my char when under 50% health etc.


Then I'm assuming that FCOM adds hoards of new enemies that don't belong in the original Oblivion enemy-factions. I'm afraid there was nothing we could do to prevent this - with custom made enemies it's a matter of how the modder has set them up.

Yes, guess it's so - it was touched in the previous thread. Might check into buffing her up a bit instead. She's rather good at killing but also a bit too good at dying - perhaps just giving her 50% more health or something would suffice.

Well, if you can boost her *current* health... but I thought you said enchantments wouldn't work on her?

As for her base health, it will reset back to 95 % of the players health.
