[RELZ] Companion Vilja ver 2.1 - thread no 3

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 11:58 pm

Great that the problem with Vilja and the friendship ring was sorted :).

And no need to apology at all, the problems did affect Vilja, so it's definitely not off-topic.

alt3rn1ty, I saw in the Nexus thread that you already figured out the solution to vampire Vilja and the swimsuit - good! :)

Yes in the looks department she has come along a bit too, a bit less Vamp and closer face shape to desired ( after a bit of 'guidance' from my betrothed :), though she was not initially horrified ).
I am adapting a family version and personal version.

Doing a bit of beta testing with Xtudo for the TGND swimsuit, both Xtudo Vampire and Custom version with TGND, by the sound of it you should have a new addition before the weekend has finished. Edit: It should be okay with original Vilja too, will make sure to try on all three with the next version.

One of the cool things with Vilja is the perfect balance that is struck between her having an agenda/will/quest of her own and at the same time leaving the player with a sense of freedom to pursue his/her agenda/will/quest. I can easily see her quest being to intrusive so the player feels a bit forced along. On the other hand you don't want a robot. I think it's perfect so far. Even better than Julan Ashlander on that point IMO, although that was one of the things I really appreciated with him as well. And it's a very entertaining quest line on its own right as well.

Being a True Swede, I have been too shy to bring up this fact myself.

This will probably put a smile on Arkngt's and Leonardo's faces, because as they are as swedish as I, they'll probably know exactly what I mean when I say that if there is one thing that is harder for swedes to do than to walk on burning coal, it is to 'advertise' themselves or their work...

Heh, yes, and I actually appreciate this averseness against self-advertising, although I'd guess it seems odd in many others eyes. Of course, when it turns into Jante-lagen it's not as fun anymore.

(she will smilingly be watching over you all night long).

I'm wondering a bit about this almost everlasting smiling. At 100 disposition she always looks at the PC almost like a cult member looking adoringly at her leader or something. It's very cute in itself but almost gets slightly creepy in the long run. In short, I wonder if it would be possible to ease up on the smiling a bit - or is it like hardcoded visavi disposition or something?

So, of course, even if I have a hard time saying this  I'm happy for every vote and endorsemant she gets at Nexus, because I know that when people are looking for new mods, they'll look for those nominated to file of the month and for those most endorsed.

Yes, you did just that. :D

I wonder who high Emma can take the *personified* Companion Vilja to, before she is really satisfy with her self. ;)

I looked up Jante-lagen and it seems very familiar to me. Maybe that's why it took Emma months to get my grudging permission to put my name on her mod. :)

The game controls the facial animations based on disposition to the player. It's a bad idea to try to lower her disposition to the player for a number of reasons. I know what you mean about the creepy feeling, so in a future version I would like to find a way to make her smile just a little less.

That reminds me of something I haven't mentioned in this thread...

As so many people have asked how to make their own customized Vilja, Xtudo has been so gracious and offered his personal version of her as well as a vampire version. Both are available at Nexus, as optional files to http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=28977. Be aware, though, that even if you choose to use the vampire version, Vilja will still consider herself a nord blond girl from Solstheim. I.e. the change is only cosmetic, not dialog changes or anything like that.

I don't know how far in her quest you are yet, but if you play 'normal' it should be running 'in the background' for quite some time. Be aware that once you have finished her original quest-line, there will be one more, which was added with ver 2. You don't have to think about how to start it. Vilja will make sure it starts. Also this one should be relatively non-intrusive - you are never forced to do anything instantly.

As CDCooley already said, it's visavi disposition, and as such hardcoded. However, her facial expression also changes when she says something - i.e. if she is angry when she chats, or scared, that will change her expression, and the chat-expression will remain on her face until the next thing she says. Well, at leas if you look at her while she talks. As we already discussed here, her facial animations won't render unless the player is looking at her .

No, it just took me some time to boost my persuasion skills so that you allowed me to put your name on *our* mod. :D (Hey, you know I couldn't have achieved these improvements on my own, not in a million years. I can tell a story and create dialog, but when it comes to scripting, I've always been crap).

...and I think we could use the facts I mentioned in previous post to achieve that. Her facial expression changes when she chats, that's where we could tune down her general 100% smile a bit.

You want to see her when she is *not* smiling?
Then I suggest that you stock up with *plenty* of strawberries, sweetrolls etc, and in the middle of the city, you remove all her clothes. Then you walk around with her outdoors in the city for a while. It won't take that long before you will know perfectly well how she looks when she is *not* smiling...

Well ,the goal is to make her jump out of the computer and make strawberry pies in my kitchen.

I'm not sure if it will ever work. I mean, it's easy enough to make her jump out of the computer, but there's no way to stop her from eating the strawberries, herself :D

Hehe, I knew you should say something like that and to make it work just use your fantasy. :D

I can report to you that earlier today I closed the first Oblivion gate with Vilja perfectly as you have expected for this version. :obliviongate:
I've not noticed any oddities with this episode with Vilja.

Before we can be certain about this I will examine the *gate* bug after each closed gate.
Any further observations of this problem will be posted here no matter if there is a good / bad news for you Emma. :)

Thank you :)

With CDCooley's fix, I believe that all gates apart from the two mentioned in the readme should be pretty much safe. I hope your testing will confirm this :)

Just finished the "main quest" and Ivy and Vilja decided to http://i27.tinypic.com/xnt6pl.jpg. And just like with the girls here in Stockholm you seldom see her face when on a pub. :P

Anyway, it was a very entertaining quest line throughout - and Vilja is a wonderful companion. Also, from a technical viewpoint everything has worked perfectly - I've had no issues at all actually (beside the known ones we've discussed - which rather are more like limits anyway).

EDIT: I have a question as well. I thought my char would take a short break from Vilja, letting her rest in Millstone Farm. Is it safe to leave her in wander mode I think it's called when she relaxes? Also, will she go about her business there? I mean she has a designated bed and I've told her that the outside is a nice place to wander - so will she sleep, wander, make potions etc.?

Is she set to be classified as a merchant? (She sells things?)

I found why some companions would still wear a cloak in my Hypothermia mod even when you set this off in the INI.

It turns out they are classified as merchants and the merchant would get cloaks put into their inventory to sell to you. I corrected this by putting the cloak in the merchants vendor chest instead.

Good to hear that she functions properly, is intertaining and drink just like the Stockholm girls :D

If you have just finished her mainquest, there will be a bonus questline ahead of you - don't worry, Vilja will start it for you, just wait and see.

It's perfectly safe to leave her in wandermode in Millstone Farm. What she does when you are not there... well, she will probably claim she has been busy working all the time, but quite frankly she will spend the whole time in idle lazyness when you're not around (i.e. her ai-packages won't execute until you return there).

No, she doesn't sell anything. She has a custom made class, but she's not a merchant at all.

What about any Offers Services? Like repairs armor or recharges magic items for gold?

No, nothing at all. But, as I said, she does have a custom class, not one of those provided by original Oblivion.

Vilja is currently at the top spot for file of the month over at TesNexus.

Just did my part for the cause!

Concerning her constant smiling, I tried Saerilith and found her too creepy. We just met and she adores me? WTF?

I think I'm starting Vilja's second quest, involving two more of a certain stinky ingredient?

Yes, she loves my woodelf girl equally deeply and calls her... "My Lord"! :) But, to be fair, this is according to the description a mod ported from Baldur's Gate so I believe the author had a very limited amount of voice-files to work with.

It really was!!!

Nevertheless, even with the quests done Vilja is still good for a surprise or two, it is amazing how a single MOD can change the game. The way I play when she is around is so much different from how I did it before; Oblivion really appears like a different and more enjoyable game.

Now I am looking forward to the release of the next update.

Another issue, I congratulate Xtudo for his custom Vilja, she is really a beauty!
However, I will stick with the original one; somehow, I think she fits better into the picture I have in mind about that lovely nordish girl.
