[RELZ] Companion Vilja ver 2.1 - thread no 4

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 4:30 pm

It really is a good idea and it's almost trivial to do. Just two minor AI package adjustments, a few lines of script, and a dialog entry. There's one minor quirk though. She will just stand and eat if there aren't any available chairs nearby. But what heartless player would ask her to choose a seat when there are no chairs nearby?

Maybe you can have us Pull the chair out for her, :whistling:

*When we getting our Preacher?? :hubbahubba:

Yes, if the campchairs works for companions (I have no idea, I haven't tested) it might very well be an option for areas where no chairs are available for Vilja to sit in.

Btw, there can be another reason why she won't sit on chairs - some moddermade chairs won't work for companions. I haven't thorouoghly checked why but I assume they have ownership set to the player or they are placed where Vilja cannot find a path to them.

Preacher??

For the Wedding, she Allready sounds Just like the Wife, constantly jabbering away, like I'm supposed to be listening, most of it turns into a buzzing sound, (just like the Wife), Then She Started Nagging, (just like the Wife) "I Really need that...." "Why don't we"... :grad:
I need a return dialog added to my scripts,.. "Yes Dear" :D

In the previous Vilja-thread (no 3) I gave you a link to a possible BETA-mod with beds for companions in the Cyrodiil inns*). Have any of you tried it`? If so, how has it worked? Blockhead has done some testing, and I found some problems that I have corrected. I'm thinking of releasing it as a BETA-version (quite frankly, I'm more eager to continue to tinker on Vilja than to spend more time ingame sleeping in various beds, so it's either releasing a BETA or it will take a lot of time before I finish this)

Well, I've only been to Leyawiin and Bravil, but this seems to be working well so far. At first in Leyawiin, the place with Witseidutsei, I think, I brought up the nap topic when she was in the doorway and she left and came back, saying she couldn't find any beds, but then after leading her to the beds and talking to her again, she went to sleep. It's alot more immersive to have her sleeping in a bed (and not compaining about her bedroll!). Thanks! I'll keep testing this out.

I guess how pleasant it is depends on who the npc is. I remember waking up in the same bed as a bald breton mage in Chorrol (or Skingrad?). He looked... shocked... I probably did so too.

I'm sure Vilja would now like the two of you to go and sleep in Fighters Guild - in particular in Anvil - and see who might wake up in *her* bed in the morning. (Azzan maybe)

NO AZZAN for you - BAD Vilja! No strawberries today! :flame:

Okay, maybe just one. :glare:

Azzan better watch his step, he may get turned into something... unpleasant.
Preacher??

I think he's got matrimony on his mind, so he's got to make his intentions clear! ;)

If she is like you describe her, she is worse than a wife - she sounds like An Old Wife, as she keeps on nagging but never offers even a kiss

About that Yes dear-script... maybe we should add in an extra optional box to tick: "Say Yes Dear to All"? :D

(Of course an appropriate warning should be added: "Say Yes Dear to All? - Warning: if you click the button, you might lose all your money, have your house refurnished in pink and all your best armor replaced with female outfits)

Maybe you should release a test beta just for this addition to see if that could be functional for Vilja. If you need one just let me know. ;)

A patch or a sightseeing tour through CS perhaps? :D

Is http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5243 suitable for Vilja?

Brozly, over at the Vilja-thread at Nexus, http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=28977, Amgepo has been kind enough to post some further thoughts on your problem with collapsing companions. I'm re-posting them here for you:

I have been thinking about the brozly's problem with colapsing companions. I think I had understand that when Vilja collapses, after reloaded, the problem occurs on earlier saves.
Thinking about it, I had remembered that under certain circunstaces if you recruit certain CM partner and then reload, he will follow you in other saves, even with a save of a diferent character, unless you restart the game first (exiting to main menu is not enough).

So, there is some kind of ram buffer that keeps certain events unchanged even if you reload a previous save. And surely if you save the game after the reload, without restarting the game, the changes will be aplied to the new save.

My crazy theory is this: if you reload a previous save game while a NPC is inconscious (a tipical case would be if you are defeated after your companion), some data from that state, will be aplied to the same NPC in the reloaded save. If you save again, this change will be made permanent. Maybe the first time there are not ill effects, maybe is a matter of chance and/or acumulation.

If this is true, the best shot to avoid it, is to restart the game before reloading, if you are killed while one of your companions is unconscious.
Besides, when the problem manifest, after trying various 'corrupt' saved games; restarting the game and trying again from older to newer saves, some of the saves could be ok.

I don't think this would affect killable companions, since most players reload after a companion die and this is not a problem affecting everyone.

Great!
If I don't hear any particular bad news, I'll release this as a beta tomorrow, and then there'll be a specific feedback thread for it... I reckon there must be some bed somewhere that doesn't work, or some other kind of incompatibility somehwere.

Hmm... I think the nords in Bruma declare that they don't marry? Maybe they just jump over a broomstick?
Well, the nords in Lokken*) did get married - but they were upper class, of course.

Yeah, "the old Nord way" according to "Shirt"-girl (Skjorta) in Bruma... "no Mother Mara mild or any of that nonsense".

Oh, I remember the White Wolf of Lokken Mountain, at least, I remember the mod very well; I never got around to actually playing it. I think I regret that more than never completing the Morrowind Main Quest. ;)

Who knows, one day, if I'm bored of Oblivion or just feel like something different, I may reinstall MW just to play that mod. :)

OH! I almost forgot, I had some bad news, well, not too bad really, but I found a http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a400/Elricwolf/Oblivion%20screens/Bugs/BEDBUG.jpg

I don't know if that chest was there when you added the bed - if something else added/moved it, it shouldn't matter, since I have your CompInnsleeping.esp loading after everything else...

You're in good company - there are dozens of mods I regret that I haven't played :). (Bult ElricWulf sounds like someone who should have ought to play Lokken)

Yep, Merchant's Inn. I guess that's what I get for being a cheapskate, but Tiber Septim is way too expensive for me atm, and King and Queen (my usual preference) was out of the way since we were hitting the shops in the morning. ;)

It's the bed to the left when you enter the room.

So it wasn't there, then? I don't know what mod could have added that...? TIE maybe? I don't have any specific Inn revamping mods. The only other possibility I can think of is "ImpeREAL City Unique Districts - All the Districts - Merged.esp"

I'll see if I can track it down later. Now I have Dad-time obligation to play Battlefield 2. :P
Wish me luck.

Thanks! I'll have a look at that (but from the top of my head, I think that's the original bed and I added the one to the right... . I'm probably wrong...)

EDIT: I just looked in the CS. The chest is not located there, it's at the end of the extra bed

I'll have to check ingame tomorrow (2.30 AM here now, have to hit the sack)

Well, this is frustrating, but I think the problem is the chest data is stored in my save for some reason... I even went into CS, moved that chest slightly, saved your ESP again, then cleaned my save(removed it from the Load list, Loaded the game, went to another cell, saved the game, exited, added the ESP back to the load list, loaded the game again, went back and the chest was still "EmBEDded".

The only way I've successfully seen it moved into the new location at the foot of the bed is by starting a whole new game and going there. It's weird, I don't know why this chest's info is saved to my file in such a persistent way (it's empty!). Could there be a script or something on the chest having to do with player storage that could be screwing with it and keeping the chest loaded into memory...? Like I said, I don't have any mods that specifically overhaul the Inns...

No, there's no script on the chest. I think it is that you have been in that cell less than 72 game hours ago.

Could you please do this little test for me:

leave the Merchants inn. rest for +72 hours. Return there. Now, where is the chest?

Ah, of course, you're right! I thought I had tried that already, but I think what I actually did (last night), was clean the save, disable the chest via console, sleep 72 hours in another cell, save, exit, add your ESP back into my LO, then load my save, and of course, the chest was still gone (a disabled object wouldn't come back if a mod just moves it, I guess).

My brain was getting tired, as the solution was just leaving the cell for 72+ hours.

Thanks, Emma!

Oh and incidentally, the King and Queen tavern extra bed works just fine! I think we'll be staying there on our visits to the IC until the 72-hour bug passes. (I don't want to skip the time in my actual game, so I'll just wait it out). I wonder if the developers intended to make the King and Queen Tavern so cheap... 10 gold? That makes it the cheapest aside from the Merchants guild, and you get treated like royalty! ;)

This opportunity came up today, because it was necessary to reinstall Oblivion from scratch. :)

I have had two reports previously in the Nexus- thread for Vilja about that Vilja had started to attack non-hostile creatures. It turned out that for some reason, Vilja's personality had been altered so it was at 30 instead of 80.
This could be the result of a spell-effect, possibly a so far unknown mod-conflict... or maybe you changed her in the construction and then accidentially happened to lower her personality?

Check ingame what her current personality is. It needs to be around 80 for a correct behaviour.

I'll paste the previous reply to such a problem below:

Just wanted to report that I had that exact same problem (Vilja attacking Shady Sam), and setting her personality to 80 in the console did fix it. I'm not sure what could have lowered her personality, though...I haven't messed with her in the CS at all. I'll post my LO, though, in case it is a mod conflict...maybe by comparing mod lists we can track down the culprit?

FYI, her fighting instructions are set to used ranged weapons, and only if my character attacks first. My character was at full health when she tried to whack poor Shady Sam as well.

Edit: Actually, take back what I said about the console fix working. I just went back, took the game off pause, and tried visiting Shady Sam again--and Vilja pounced on him. Her personality was definitely set to 80 at the time, so far as I can tell.

Son of the Edit: I should add that she hasn't attacked anyone else she shouldn't, although I'll certainly keep an eye out for that. So I think the problem I'm having has something to do with her relationship with Shady Sam, rather than a randomly low personality score.

Also, if I let Vilja beat him unconscious, once Shady Sam wakes up she doesn't seem to be inclined to try attacking him again.

Hey, all this talk of Vilja's aggressiveness got me thinking, I do remember her acting funny a few times or going running off after something where I swore I had her on either "Avoid fighting or "Only Attack Enemies that Attack first"; it wasn't anything major, though, so I didn't pay that much attention. The other day, though, I could swear she was after Maiq the Liar! I talked to him on the road and he says that if he "had stick made of Fishes, I would give it to you!", then as soon as I ended the dialogue, he starts running, and Vilja yells, "You're a dangerous bastard, aren't you?!?" and goes chasing down the road after him! I caught up with her and stopped her, but then everytime we caught up with Maiq, she gave chase again! Interestingly, when I found him later near Bravil and he was standing still, she didn't attack or anything. It was almost like she was chasing him down for acting suspicious!

Is Vilja supposed to hate Maiq for some reason? I mean, I can't really blame her. His behavior confused the hell out of me the first time I met him, too! I just assumed he had to be up to something and it couldn't be good!

Every time, I've checked her Personality, though, it is at least 80 (she has had it over 80 for some reason before). I've been fortunate enough that she hasn't caused any big problems for me so far by attacking things. The worst she's done in my game besides giving poor Maiq a heart attack is to kill a couple of unfortunate feral cats. :(
