[RELZ] Companion Vilja ver 2.2 - thread no 5

Post » Wed Aug 18, 2010 9:12 pm

Vilja has some rather bad timing. I cleaned out a vampire nest, and since unlike in Morrowind you don't get red icons when you get diseases and the like, I didn't know I had caught porphyritic hemophilia. Well it's time to level up, I sleep and get the popup about becoming a vampire. Vilja greets me with "Aren't you horribly afraid of those vampires? I am..." :) I reloaded.

Usually you will get something like: “You lock ill today, maybe you better see a doctor”.

Yes, this Girl is taking care of her friends.

Enjoying Vilja as a companion. A few things.

1. When in Anvil fighters guild Vilja got the topic "What do you think of Vilja". This is before asking the question to anyone in Anvil.
2. Is there a way to make Vilja fight only when I have drawn my weapon. I am only at lv5 now but I vaguely remembered my old save I had her stay totally out of fights?
3. Also when asking her to relax in the Fightes Guild chapter in Anvil the leaves through the front door (we where standing there). Of course she is free to go where ever she wants :D

Thanks for this great companion mod!

Yes, I have done a little mistake in the dialog filtering here. It will be corrected in the next version.
2. Is there a way to make Vilja fight only when I have drawn my weapon. I am only at lv5 now but I vaguely remembered my old save I had her stay totally out of fights?

Yes... she has three fighting options - Only attack enemies that attack us (her default - she will only attack if you either draw your weapon or if you are a little injured, indicating that someone has attacked you, or of course if she gets attacked). Avoid fighting (she should only attack if she gets attacked or if your health runs really low) Attack enemies on sight (no explanation needed :P)
The default setting generally works well for what you want to achieve, but it might not work equally well when the enemies are added by another mod and don't belong in any of the game-original factions. Also, if you are injured she might get over-protective...

3. Also when asking her to relax in the Fightes Guild chapter in Anvil the leaves through the front door (we where standing there). Of course she is free to go where ever she wants :D

Had you by any chance told her that the guild was your new home? Else she shouldn't wander off... unless she has told you where she is going. Did she by any chance say in dialog mode before she left that she was going to the pub or to visit a friend?

Thanks for this great companion mod!

Glad you are enjoying it! :)

2. Right. So can I just add missing factions to her factions in TES4Edit for example?
3. I have not told her the Anvil Guild was her home, can't remember where home is now frankly
She did not say anything and did not return to sleep. When leaving the FG next morning she instigated conversation (as she often do without saying why, but I would guess most often when she wants to sleep - although she does not say anything about that and if you exit dialogue she will enter it again with you) and after choosing "lets go", went inside FG again, I entered dialogue and Vilja at that time mentioned beds. I just exit and entered dialogue again and answered "this is your bed", and everything worked fine.

Dizzy?

Faction play in Oblivion can be great fun, but many a time it is up the the player to make mods play nice with each other. I really must read up on the faction thing and try to get all my NPC adding mods interplay better.

Cheers!

So, I was doing some quests today -- Mage's Guild quests. And I was hanging around Weatherleah visiting the twins (my halfway point between our house and the Fort Ontus, where I must retreive a necklace for the guild -- we stopped by to visit and rest ... I RP a little bit. :P)

I was a bit bored, so when I initiated conversation with Vilja, she asked if she looked fat in her outfit, so I decided to go with the 'Harpoons' response, just to see what she would say, as I had never once chosen that reply before.

So she was upset, of course. I decided to check her stats to make sure that I didn't hurt her disposition too much, and too my shock, I discovered that she had over 1000 health! All of her stats were inexplicably boosted by 100 or 125+, and I can't for the life of me figure out why.

Only her stats are affected, her skills are normal.

http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/8650/wtfvilja.jpg
http://img834.imageshack.us/img834/1049/wtfvilja2.jpg

Her base stats are normal, but she's getting a boost from something. I don't know what. All of her gear is vanilla:
  • Perfect Amber Sword (from Shivering Isles) / Mace of the Crusader (From Knights of the Nine)
  • Escutcheon of Chorrol
  • Necklace of Swords
  • Mundane Ring
  • Ring of Sunfire
  • Her custom leather armor, which I had made in the CS as a plain unenchanted set with Glass-quality defense, and enchanted it ingame.

Though, as you can see from the two pictures, her stat bonuses seem to occur in both her combat gear and her dress.
And even with no items in her inventory, she's still getting a stat bonus.

I've not made any changes to Vilja's race or stats in the Construction Set, only changed her hair and slightly darkened her complexion (because she seemed a tad ghostly :D)
What could be causing this? :o

Edit: Oh, and her health bonus is set to +30 (default) in the ingame menu, though I doubt that this matters. >.>

Edit 2: I loaded up an older save and checked Vilja's stats -- and they seem to be normal. This save is within Shivering Isles, and I left the Isles to start the Mage's Guild quests, my current Mage's Guild quest in this save is... "A Mage's Staff" And there is a 3 hour difference between the saves. So something must have happened between "A Mage's Staff" and "Necromancer's Amulet". I did not download any new mods or edit any existing mods between these saves.

It's not Vilja and her factions that are the problem. It's that creatures and monsters added by some mods aren't in the game's standard villain factions like "Creature", "Undead", "Necromancer", "Vampire", etc. Worse yet that was a specific choice by those mods, so there's no good way for Vilja to recognize them. What generally happens is that those enemies will either be a little too friendly with Vilja or they will treat her (and she will react) just like every other companion (meaning they will all target Vilja and practically ignore you while Vilja will be very aggressive towards them too).

It really does sound as if Vilja did trigger one of her other special AI packages and you just didn't notice. Maybe you did what I so sometimes, click while she's talking which cuts off her dialog before you really have a chance to see it.

I just played around with the debug text option for the first time. It has something that should be very helpful here.

Open the console, click on Vilja, type "tdt" and then "sdt 8". That should show you a list of all spells, enchantments, and other magic effects on her. Certainly those boosts to her stats should be in the list since she's got normal base values. (You type "tdt" to toggle the debugging text back off.)

I'm still not sure What the deal is on that, it's seems to be Companions in general, they seem to take on enchantments and keep them permantly, other than a Reserruction, I don't know of a way to reset them, you can Resurrect her but she will go back to Only her Starting equipment...

*I couldn't determine Any outside Effects on her with "RefScope"...

Yes, that does look perfectly normal. Although she doesn't look very happy for someone with the stats of a goddess.

The 72 hour trick should clear up whatever is giving the extra effects. You can also try a "resurrect 1" in the console.
(The 1 added after the command should let her keep her equipment.)

Well, the 72 hour trick didn't seem to work.
'Resurrect 1' seemed to only reset her endurance. The rest of her stats were unaffected.

The only thing that worked was 'resurrect'. Holding her inventory in my own bag before resurrecting her is no big deal, but I'm worried if using the 'resurrect' command might break some of her scripts?
Will it have any adverse effects on her?

I don't have much experience with the console -- I'm on a laptop and have had problems getting in the console on both Oblivion and Fallout because of some conflict with the ~ key -- actually found an OBSE mod that lets me change my console key to a different button just for this little VIlja problem. :P

Well, get back to me whenever you can. I don't think I want to continue unless I know she'll be fine with a resurrection. Maybe I'll play some Street Fighter :3

I've used it on her, and it doesn't seem to cause any problems, (other than the quest items I'd allready given her that I took back, that I wasn't sure what to do with)

Yeah, the resurrection settled the problem just fine.

I was wondering why she was decimating my enemies for a while, without my help. :P
Though most of the enemies were weak mages and necromancers :o

I've found that the game crashes when exiting an Oblivion dungeon or tower while Vilja is following. Entering or moving from cell to cell withing the towers or dungeons is fine, it's just when going back outside. If I ask her to wait and then summon her from outside I can avoid the problem.

I had an Artifact that would cause a crash, going through gates if Vilja had it in her posession, (was a KD's circlet(I belive that was a 4% sheild)) could be something similar, never had any problems leaving dungeons...

I recently gave her a +3 luck amulet from the AFK_Weye mod I think. I just took it off her and went through the door without a crash. I'm gonna tentatively say the problem is circumvented... maybe enchanted items in general cause this kind of issue?

edit: ehh, it just crashed again after going into a spiraling tower and then trying to go out. I can't really say what's going on; or that it is even directly tied to Vilja.

Actually for me, it was only that one Specific Circlet, I've since disabled that mod, but she was fine with other Circlets and has Been fine with Several enchanted items since.
You might try removing All enchantments to see if that's an issue, then replace a few at a time

I'm not sure if her equipment has any effect on that sorta thing.

Maybe there's some kind of mod conflict between Vilja and something else that you're using, but everything my Vilja wears is enchanted and I've had her tag along with me to just about every Oblivion gate I've entered, and I haven't had a crash that I can remember. At least not when going through doors and such. :3

Though, all of Vilja's gear in my game is vanilla.

My mod list is probably much shorter than yours', too -- I think it's on page 8.

You two seemed to have isolated the problem to pieces of equipment you've gotten from mods. :o

Nat, what you can probably do is try going into an Oblivion plane with a vanilla follower -- Mazoga the Orc, Adoring Fan, or one of the essential Fighters Guild guys whose names I can't remember.
See if you crash with them following you. :o

Just so we don't overlook the obvious, you aren't running an older version of any of the Duke Patrick mods are you? And you are running the latest 2.2 version of Vilja right?

I find it strange that this only seems to be a problem when you go from an interior to an exterior. Can you fast-travel or go through city gates without problems?

I recall another problem related to amulets. Someone (was it you, Brozly?) was using a mod where you can wear extra amulets and rings. As soon as one of his companions were wearing extra rings or amulets, the game would crash in transitions between interiors/exterios and in transitions between cities/wilderness.

He removed the extra amulets/rings from the companions, and the problem went away.

Yeah I've got like 120 plugins activated, about 60 more merged into bashed patch... a lot of variables there, lol. My character isn't near to going into any Oblivion gates again anytime soon (just needed to start Oblivion invasion to do Integration the Stranded Light quests) and my saves from earlier today have already been cycled out of the Streamline save queue... I might even be getting that Oblivion Gate Destruction Spell mod because I just had so much fun being level 4 in the oblivion plane while running OOO and MMM... Anyways, I'll just sit on the issue unless it crops up somewhere else or I find myself back inside a gate. Thanks for the help guys.

Actually that was the KD's circlet causing the crash, the amulets caused different issues, (it was the Waterwalk) unlimited rings are an option in the Bashed Patch

I am SO impressed! This is the best companion mod Ive ever played! Vilja is just so great... she is a must have companion and travel partner. I love her (your?) accent too, it just seems to fit her so well. The scripting you have done with her just blows me away and I cant tell you how thankful I am for all your work into Vilja. I love all of her comments about random stuff and the quests... and how she interacts with other companions... :D I just love everything about her! hehe

Anyways, I have a question... You said she can ride "her" horse. Do I need to buy her a horse or by that do you mean "my" horse?
