[RELZ] Companion Vilja ver 3.0 - thread no 9

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 6:33 am

I never tell her to shut up, but I do usually change the setting so she doesn't talk quite as often. (If you haven't found it yet, you can ask about her skills then choose the options book at the top of the skills display. One of the many options is to decide how often she makes one of her random comments.)

Thanks for the tip, but I'll leave her the way she is. As I said before that's part of her personality, she likes to talk a lot.

hmmm, Constance got me into a world of trouble, Vilja more like gets my rear out of trouble and then makes fun of me while doing it :lmao: I've only just recently finished her quest line (I know) and am now tuning my Oblivion some more for a different playstyle, what I have to commend is the Voice, you'd be surprise the amount of nationals and backgrounds you can make that her voice fits near effortlessly

another sixy Companion mod by Emma, I -really- hope you consider bringing your gifts to Skyrim, thanks so much.

Emma :) I've pm'd you about this mod and another mod of yours interactions with each, not sure if my msgs have been going in the spam box or somethings happened that Im not aware of but I hope I can get a heads up in the near future <3

Oh, I'm sure that Vilja will over time be able to bring you in a lot of trouble, too B) . Are you positive you have done all her questlines? There are three questlines, if she cannot cast a range of spells yet you haven't played them all...

If Skyrim is a good game, I'm sure I will want to mod for it, once I have played it through toroughly. But, Vilja is a team-work, I wouldn't have the skills to do a Skyrim companion like her (or to port her) without CDCooley's scripting knowledge.

I checked my PM box, and indeed your PM was there - I am sorry, I really thought I had replied to it but that it was an e-mail?? Didn't you send me an e-mail as well? Anyway, the reason where there is no interaction between Vilja and the mod you mention is that this is not an officially released mod - it wouldn't be right to add in a lot of content that only a few people will have access to.

Aha! I knew I recognized Emma's name but hadn't made the connection to Laura and the Breton Witch Girl (Whose Name I Also Cannot Recall). I just started playing with Vilja the night before last, and was already quite impressed, but this raises my expectations considerably. :D

The Witchgirl is called Morgana ;). She was my second mod, Laura was my first. You might have played other MW-mods by me as well, like The White Wolf of the Lokken Mountain or Children of Morrowind. I hope you will find Vilja enjoyable company - as Oblivion adds so many new functions, we have been able to do things with Vilja that wasn't even possible with Morrowind companions. So she *should* appear to be more like a real person than what Laura or Morgana are.

So true! I don't share your distaste for Oblivion gates, but thank heavens that Elder Scrolls games are open enough to allow you to forget that there even is a main quest.

I habitually sneak everywhere when in dungeons, so I've already started wondering, if Vilja doesn't like me making noise, why she keeps making even more by shouting about it... I think she's the only TES or FO3 companion I've encountered who talks at all while sneaking, though, and I definitely like it. I tend to spend so much time in sneak mode that I sometimes forget that other companions have idle pvssyr at all.

She does talk a lot less while you are sneaking, though. Which you will discover if you spend some time in non-sneaking mode :). If you really want her to shut up while you are sneaking, you can ask her to do so. If you are in a dungeon when you ask her, she will understand completely and keep (almost) quiet. She will still make quest-related remarks, though (you might not have ran into this yet, but she comments quite a lot on quests you are doing, and this she will do even if told to shut up).

She also seems a bit scatterbrained at times...

"I'm feeling a bit hungry." [stop, ask her if she wants to eat something] "No, but I guess I'm a little thirsty."

"Why do we always have to do what you want? When was the last time you asked me what I wanted to do?"
"OK, what do you want to do?"
"Oh, I don't know..."

Well, typical girlish behaviour, isn't it, at least the last one ("OK, what do you want to do?" "Oh, I don't know...")

I sincerely hope you do this at some point - it is, IMO, the way companion romances should be handled, rather than the more typical instant gratification approach. ("Just five easy quest stages and she'll be your unquestioningly devoted lover within fifteen minutes of play time!")

That might very well happen, I think i got a better picture now of how to handle this than what I did when working on ver 3. But, if ever romance is added, it will be extremely optional (like in "you have to go to her options book and tick a box, else nothing will happen) as I definitely don't want to risk to ever have to romance someone who sounds exactly like me ingame :P. And I do want Vilja to be a companion equally suitable for male and female players and PCcharacters.

Yep, I have noticed that. Now the only problem is that, when I'm not sneaking, I'm running, so half the time she's far enough away that I can't quite hear her and the subtitles don't appear. :P But that's Oblivion's fault, not yours.

Other than reloading, is there any other way to get her to repeat the quest-related comments when that happens?

Well, typical girlish behaviour, isn't it, at least the last one ("OK, what do you want to do?" "Oh, I don't know...")

Yes... I have conversations like that with my (Swedish, incidentally) girlfriend fairly often.

I finally had a chance to play this mod today and I'm already loving it. I love her accent, she sounds so cute. Also she does a a lot of talking, I mean a a lot of talking. It's not a bad thing though, I know I can tell her to shut up. But she's so sweet and gives her personality.

Also I agree the Elder Scrolls has a lot of longevity, thanks to mods. I played Morrowind for five years straight (Two years vanilla on the original XBox and three on PC). I tried almost every mod there was. I'm also glad I beat the vanilla main quest once and that was so long ago.

I never tell her to shut up, but I do usually change the setting so she doesn't talk quite as often. (If you haven't found it yet, you can ask about her skills then choose the options book at the top of the skills display. Well, sometimes during the gameplay it might be a good thing if she does talk quite often. For instance, later on when you can ask her out to spend an evening at an inn, it will take her a lot longer to finish her meal if she talks less (yeah, I know, it's the opposite with us humans, but Vilja obviously eats faster when she can talk at the same time).

Simply, some of her functions are timed and based on number of times she opens her mouth, so even if I'm sure many player will want to reduce her amount of pvssyr, it might be good to have in the back of the head that occasionally one can speed up what happens if she is allowed to talk more often.

(On a side-note, when CDCooley came up with the suggestion to add she could be scripted to chat *less* often if the player wanted this, I suggested that we'd add an option to make her talk *more* often... but for some reason, neither he, nor the playtesters, seemed very interested in adding this in... I wonder why...)

As for longevity and replayability of TES-games... I must say that if I divide the cost for the games TESIII and TESIV in hours of enjoyment, I have got these games practically for free! I have no idea anymore how many hours I have spent playing and modding them.

Hello Emma,
I am enjoying Vilja so far, but she seems to have some problem with combat. Every time when combat ends, she goes into a kind of quirky on off mode. It's hard to explain. I have to keep resetting her via the combat spell. Then everything goes back to normal. She also has the tendency to run out the area and I have to summon her back. Here is my mod list:

There's nothing in your mod-list that really catches my eye. The most suspiscious would be the animation mods you are using. You could try and disabling them for a brief while and see if it does anything.

BUT before you do this, I suggest that you try something else. Bring Vilja to a safe interior, remove enchanted items from her, and leave her behind for +72 game hours (i.e. you can travel somewhere else and wait for +72 game hours and then return to her, that's enough). It might be that this will sort out her behaviour once and for all.

Another thing... I recall that some players have had problems with her combat behaviour (although not the same problem as you are describing) when they or she have been using modded weapons with scripts on them. During every combat she has been affected by the scripted weapon effects, and the players have have to reset her manually. So if you know you are using special weapons, try a few combats with vanilla weapons for both of you and see if it changes things. If it does, it could be your favorite weapong causing the problem....

OK, I'll try that. She does not have any scripted weapons though. Only a Dwarven mace from a ruin she actually took me to. Also, to clarify what I said earlier, the "jerkynes" I see coincides with my HD being accessed. Seems something is trying to fire and keeps going into some kind of loop effect. I will keep you posted.

Sorry for slight OT, but I'd like to use one additional female companion besides Vilja and then it seems like a good idea to use one that Vilja will interact "personally" with, so I'm thinking Neeshka, Rhianna, Saerileth, Sonia or Valeria. I've never used any of them so I'm wondering which one you guys would recommend, i.e. which one do you think Vilja would prefer as a new friend/companion and "works best" together with her?

Of the ones you mention, I'd say Vilja has less interaction with Valeria than with the rest of them, as Valeria is so generic there isn't much they can "talk about".

A disadvantage with Saerileth compared to the others is that Saerileth has very limited voiced dialog, and none functional conversation entries. As I still very much wanted to add in interaction, I have found workarounds, but when the two girls are talking, it is unfortunately so that Vilja talks a lot and Saerileth only replies "yes" and "mhmm". Else, Vilja has quite a lot to say to Saerileth and to you about Saerileth.

Vilja probably has most interaction with Neeshka - until Fergus arrived, she was our main "side-kick", and they have quite a lot to talk about (and Vilja has quite a lot to say to you about Neeshka).

Well, tried the 72 hour wait and no dice. I now notice that she does not even attack when I tell her to. She gets her weapon out but that all. After the battle, she becomes non-contactable(is that word?) An then I have to cast the combat spell at her to fix her. Looks like I'll have to do more detective work....

Raed

Update! No dice. Removed sensual walk and still had same issue. Uninstalled Vilja and reinstalled her did not fix either. Stumped am I. For now, I'll just keep her to the side. Will try CM Partners and see if they act up during combat. We shall see.

Her non aggresive behavior could be caused by something raising her personality rating. It should be 80. About her non responsive state after combat, it looks like an interaction with a script used only during combat. Try unchecking Progress.esm (and it's dependant esp files), realisticforcemedium.esp and SkycaptainsBloodTime (I didn't try any of them and they seems to run scripts during combat).

Checked those and nothing changed, but I may have snafu'd myself. It seems I did not clean 2 files recently. One is Oblivifall dungeon sounds and sad to say Vilja 3.0.1. I'll see what happens next.....

Just thought i'd pop in and say Tack sa mycket. Just started a new game with Vilja as a companion and loving the work you put into her.
I have pretty much tried using every single companion mod out there but nothing even comes close to her.
She is truly awesome and i really love the fact that she has a mind of her own.
Was in the imperial city when all of a sudden she decided she needed to go buy something. :)
I was on a quest and short of time but could not help but smile.

Been a huge fan of your Morowind mods as well and when ever you release something i just instantly download it :)
So a big Thank you to all involved in this mod, loving it. :)

Vilja's a great companion. It's a pretty neat thing you've done.
Voice acting alone is pretty awkward (at least for my part) -- and you can kind of get a sense of that awkwardness in Vilja's early lines.
I guess somewhere along the line of those 3000+ mp3s of dialogue that you just started to get a bit more comfortable with it.

Or are you not yet?
I was just curious about how many recordings it takes you, on average, for each line before you finally accept it for your mod?

I've started voice acting for one of my creations and it's not going so well. It's especially difficult to act out lines where there's emotion involved -- like surprise or outrage. It sounds great in my head, but it just doesn't come out of my mouth right. :P

I totally agree with you, having Emma own voice makes Vilja even more attractive.
I don't think anyone could give Vilja a better voice.

I like it very much, the voice gives Vilja unique personality. And it's sweet imo.

I totally agree with you, having Emma own voice makes Vilja even more attractive.
I don't think anyone could give Vilja a better voice.

Well, I wasn't talking about Emma's voice acting.
I was talking about voice acting in general. It can be an awkward experience trying to act out these emotions into your mic, all alone in your room. :P

Checked those and nothing changed, but I may have snafu'd myself. It seems I did not clean 2 files recently. One is Oblivifall dungeon sounds and sad to say Vilja 3.0.1. I'll see what happens next.....

Well, after cleaning everything is working fine so far. Vilja is no longer acting strange after combat. She even switched weapons properly. Now I can get on with our adventures together. Thanks Emma for a great companion.

Interesting.

I normally do the two auto cleaning processes on just about everything except for the work of those too-few authors who can be relied on to clean before release. Oddly, I can't recall cleaning Vilja. Better late than never I suppose. I assume it was the auto processes you did? Nothing fancy?

Yes, I only did auto-processing.

Argh. :banghead:
She is doing it again. She went back to this jerky motioning and keeps equiping and unequiping her shield. I am at wits end with this. :ahhh:
I do want to have Vilja with me, but I have to keep resetting her and that's no fun. I need some big time help.
