[WIPZ] Companion Vilja ver 2, very soon to be released

Post » Mon Jun 21, 2010 4:32 pm

Hey, I'm all for the concept of emergent behavior/AI - as long as it not too buggy!

One of the things that convinced me to get Oblivion a couple years ago (while still stubbornly holding on to precious MW) was playing it on a friends XBOX360 (though I play on PC now, obviously!) and watching a random theft in Skingrad and subsequent (quite lengthy) chase by the Skingrad guards who eventually caught and killed the thief... it may have been Shameer.

My first memorable moment when interacting with npcs in Oblivion was when I to my surprise saw the countess of Leyawiin riding to the Imperial city. I had never expected that!

Another memorable encounter was sadly finding the body of Quill-Weave on the road (after doing the Rat quest she is non essential) as she was probably taking a walk to Chorral. I liked Quill-weave as one of the more interesting NPCs and was sad to see her meet such a random fate. I almost reloaded a previous save to restore her, but decided not to on principle. If I had had access to a 'resurrect' spell in game (don't like using the console) I would have used it on her though (a feature I would prefer over companions/npcs being set to unkillable).

Hmm... I suspect that 72 game hours later she was back in Anvil, safe and sound?? At least I believe this will happen with npcs that are killed along the roads.

On a similar note to your dialogue issue, whenever Sonia starts talking uncharacteristically about disgusting goblins and Colovian highlands and such I just pretend she's slightly insane though Valkar loves her all the same. The same thing applies when she walks clear across a tavern to sit as far away from me as possible (usually even if I move chairs, she will move to the *other* side!) Either she's crazy or just always mad at Valkar (maybe he drinks too much or flirts with the female npcs there!)

From your vivid previous description of Valkar, I strongly suspect that a) his breath smell of beear and B) that he has insulted her

Of course, I know that last is an Oblivion game issue with 'persistent' chairs and such and can't be avoided with any companions, but it is slightly annoying sometimes! Maybe someone will make a mod that makes all chairs persistent or something? Or maybe there is a script solution for this?

From what I have seen, this choice isnt about 'persistant' objects but some kind of order of form-id's for them. In player abode, I force Vilja to reposition to a chair once a day (it looks a bit odd as she actually teleports there, but it's quite necessary, as many abodes aren't pathgridded and companions might then get stuck and in need of getting 'unstucked). She then seems to pick chair in a certain order, and as some of the houses we are using I have made myself, I believe she picks the chair that was first placed in the interior. I wouldn't bet on it though...

Well, hope you get Vilja's "mud-crab" problems sorted out... :P

She is already cured from the mud-crab syndrome :). And she doesn't even take off to kill deers anymore in order to protect me :D.

I don't know maybe you should uninstall Oblivion and have a fresh installation for a change.
So that you can get rid of the mess with all these mods.

Tried that a few times too.. , changed directories, changed Drives, changed OS's, even reinstalled Windows...

I've also read your other thread with this problem, so it can be just like this http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1095643-melting-body-bug/page__view__findpost__p__16001357. :brokencomputer:

Now, I'm admittedly a complete idiot when it comes to this, but... could it possibly be related to your graphics card?? Have you checked the hardware/software section? (This was probably a dumb remark, but I still post it... :o )

I think I'm pretty good there, I'm running Catalyst 10.4 on a 4890 ATI Radeon, I know Oblivion can be tough on better, but I'm not getting overly hot or pixilating at all...

Maybe the fact your card is overclocked can have an impact?

The graphics aren't the actual issue, this is the third install/game with this problem, and it always starts out where their body's just stop functioning, I'll go through a door, and they'll be standing next to me, totally paralyzed, (but talking normal) then fall flat on their face. This was the first time they actually Deformed....

When they stop to function don't go through a door you only need reload your game, because I suspect there is a major script issue here.

Some companions I've tried before has these symptoms when there bodies is frozen and the author has pointed out this script problem in the mods readme. Just reload your game and they should be back to normal, even a quickload (F9) can sometimes fix it. If you still have the problem you can either use the http://sourceforge.net/projects/notepad-plus/files/ to view any script that esm/esp has or report the problem to the author.

Ok, even at that, I had a previous game up to level 45 with no problems,(regerding Partners, (I had other problems and had to revert Way back)) but lately I can't even get to level 10, by the time I added Vilja it only took a couple days, so apperantly there's a Script conflict going on with the other mods.

You have reach level 45 in the previous game, but on what level did you install the companion Randi?

Randi and Bree both are generac CM companions, I started that game with them @ level 1, but I had very few other mods.

**Could also be a conflict with OBSE 1.8, that would be the aproximate time I upgraded from 1.7??

***I supose this means I can go back to my previously Bloated Modlist... :hubbahubba:

I thought these companions was installed later in the game.

Maybe we have found the source of this *weird issue* that you have struggle with. Here is the latest http://obse.silverlock.org/ version. :user:

But Brozli said he is using 1.8 already, if so I do not think it is an OBSE issue.
1.8 seems very stable and I do not remember any reported issue with this one, only request for additional functions.
If this comment sounds stupid for anyone that knows more about OBSE than I do please forgive me (I suppose most people on this forum do), but is there a possibility that a MOD does require an OBSE plug-in that is missing or not up to date?

You kinda lost me somewhere, I have the latest version, I upgraded to the 1.8b6 (then the Release as soon as it came out) somewhere around the time I started to have these problems, of course I probably added a few dozen other mods over the same period, unfortunately I also reformatted my other drive that had most of my Saves..
Generally Randi would go "sick" first, (witch in itself is strange, because Bree was my storage barn)and I would pretty much ignore it, I don't recall if I tried a reload or not, but it seemed that once they got to that point they were all Doomed...

Emma, did you see what your girl did to me in the FCOM thread awhile back??

Hey Emma, definitely looking forward to the new release! Out of curiosity are there any lines she has that are used when the player has been absent for periods of time?

To be honest I've exhaust my self of ideas, but for a last resort have look into the tes4edit for a dirty reference's or cleaned any mod through tes4gecko?

If I'm are correct you have mentioned some missing flags regarding the lost spire mod in tes4edit that you have found earlier.
Maybe there is something to take a closer look at.

No, not really... I actually didn't think of that. Maybe something to implement in future versions... this version I consider done now, am writing on the readme and hoping to release during the weekend. :) (Do I dare to say that? Making such predictions has a tendency to be dangerous :shudders:)

That is good to know, I learnt already that Vilja does not like the Servant in Skingrad too much as a result I moved her home to Anvil. The servant there is added by Khetienna’s beautiful “A better Benirus Manor” MOD and should not create adverse reactions.
I was wondering what she thinks about the Dark Brotherhood and the Thieves guild. Is it better to send her home while doing those quests?
BTW, great news on the release, I am planning to start a new game after some house (MOD) cleaning but will put that off until Vilja 2 is released.

In the new version, Vilja will still be mildly grumbling over Eyja when talking to you, but be quite nice when she is talking to Eyja herself. Eyja will have some little comments to you, too, regarding why the relation between the girls might be a little strained. As I have written before, Vilja do have old acquaintances among the Cyrodiil inhabitants, these will have their own unique comments on the Vilja subject (special topic added, in some cases it will only show up once Vilja has told you more of her past. If you find a "What do you think about Vilja"-topic on npcs, it's well worth to try it out, as every comment is unique or almost unique).

I have only added a few quest comments to Thieves guild and none related to the Dark Brotherhood in the upcoming version of Vilja, as I have never played DB and only played through Thieves guild back in 2006. I'm intending to play through these questlines and add comments to Vilja in a later update of her. It should be safe to let her tag along, though. As Vilja's responsibility setting is very low, she is very unlikely to complain if you steal things during the thieves guild quest. The potential problem with Dark Brotherhood would be how they respond to her rather than how she responds to them, but CdCooley have looked into this and says that if you just set Vilja in a pacifist-mode (i.e. do not fight) she should get along fine with the DB-members. Fine as in no particular interaction at all. (I don't think it would fit Vilja to be on too friendly terms with them).

Just curious, does she have anything to say if the PC is a vampire? I've been thinking about turning Naz into one.

Not much. I was pondering on it but decided against it for this version. Question is: is it good if she 'knows' that the player is a vampire? I'm not sure...

It could be implemented later, though...

Hi Emma ..

After being married for so long to Laura, I spend a long time looking for a similar companion mod for Oblivion until I see this, and more importantly after I read the description I glanced at her mum's name and saw its you :)

And am more then happy to see that she will be upgraded to a newer version ( btw, still waiting for version 3 of Laura, where she'll pop out and make me coffee ) .. Good news, as it gives me more time to settled on my modlist ..

While I dreaded the day that she starts dragging me around on her shopping trip (like Laura did on countless occasion -_____- ) .. I know I will definitely be visiting Waterfront as fast as I can every time I arrived in Anvil (I used alternate start mod) .. stopping in every tavern to stock up on strawberries along the way :D

Do consider to add Eyja compatibilities... she's not a full blown companion mod, but I think Vilja will definitely have a lot of things to chat about or with Eyja :D

ps.. There's a mod that add children to the cities .. not many and not full blown like CoM.. but they are around, running and chasing each other .. or just tagged alongside their mother ^^ .. Look for moDem Life on TESNexus :)

ps2.. Please dont change the Vivec pronounciation, at least I dont feel so lonely pronouncing it like that :x .. Like you said, its part of her charm..

Lastly, back in Morrowind, Lilarcor is one of the most talkative partner I ever had (altho in his case, its just his crazy monologue)... He now had a competitor in Vilja .. :D

One of Laura's many fiances! :) Aw... I thought Laura, originally released back in 2002, had been forgotten by now - it's good to hear that people still remember her. :)

You will find some major differences between Laura and Vilja, though... First of all, Vilja isn't a 'girlfriend' mod - she'll be your best friend but she won't fall for you the way Laura did (although I know many players feel there is an implicit romance aspect within the mod... and maybe there is :)). Vilja also isn't as 'obnoxious' as Laura could be; she doesn't have any diva behaviours. And you won't have to accompany her when she goes shopping - she's perfectly able to do the shopping, herself. Although sometimes she might decide on this when it didn't suit your plans at all...

And am more then happy to see that she will be upgraded to a newer version...Good news, as it gives me more time to settled on my modlist ..

You won't have to wait for long... Unless my computer explodes or something like that, the new version should be released within say 20 hours from now.

( btw, still waiting for version 3 of Laura, where she'll pop out and make me coffee ) ..

Well, there are some problems in implementing this... She does jump out of the computer all right, but, the coffee tasts like [censored]!!
(Have been thinking about doing something similar with Vilja. So far the attempts to make her jump out of the computer and bake a strawberry pie have been unsuccessful... She jumps out OK, and she'll bake the pie, but the silly girl can't resist consuming all the strawberries, herself :P)

As said above... she can go shopping on her own. But a stock supply of strawberries can never be wrong!

Do consider to add Eyja compatibilities... she's not a full blown companion mod, but I think Vilja will definitely have a lot of things to chat about or with Eyja :D

There is already interaction between them in ver 2. They can have conversations, but Eyja's dialog is rather limited. Eyja however has her own thoughts about Vilja, too, which she will gladly tell you more about... (Note: I do believe that the Eyja *mod* changes the ID of Eyja and that Vilja therefore won't 'know' that it is Eyja. I might look into this in the next update of Vilja, but not for ver 2.0).

ps.. There's a mod that add children to the cities .. not many and not full blown like CoM.. but they are around, running and chasing each other .. or just tagged alongside their mother ^^ .. Look for moDem Life on TESNexus :)

Yes, I know... But they are shrunk advlts... I looked at them before I started out on http://lovkullen.net/Emma/OB/CH/Child595.JPG... (Not sure if I ever finish this as a mod, though...)

ps2.. Please dont change the Vivec pronounciation, at least I dont feel so lonely pronouncing it like that :x .. Like you said, its part of her charm..

Well, I haven't... she'll still pronounce it the same way you do ;).

Lastly, back in Morrowind, Lilarcor is one of the most talkative partner I ever had (altho in his case, its just his crazy monologue)... He now had a competitor in Vilja .. :D

No... he is not among the companions I have added unique interaction with. I have not played this quest-line, and I feel it wouldn't make such an immersive work full justice to just randomly add conversation. I'm planning to play through his storyline, and add unique interaction in the next version of Vilja. Because there will surely be upgrades of Vilja coming later on - I am also planning to play through the DB quests and the Thieves guild quests again, in order to add proper quest-pvssyr for these storylines.

But, it will not be in ver 2.0. No chance... as I'm about to start a release thread for ver 2.0 in say.... 30 seconds :D
