[WIPZ] Companion Vilja ver 2, very soon to be released

Post » Mon Jun 21, 2010 8:00 pm

Wow! Vilja was the only companion I used, but not anymore! As soon as version 2 is out I'm definitely going to add more companions to watch their interactions! This is so exciting. Thanks so much for working on this wonderful companion.

Can you tell me which companions are fully voice-acted that she will interact with? Also, do you plan on adding interaction with Ruined Tail? Not really a request, I"m just wondering.

Vilja will interact with any npc that have appropriate conversation functions. The majority of companions have what is needed, and in some cases where the conversation files don't work properly in the original mod, I have added in a 'quick-fix' to at least allow Vilja to talk to the companions, even if their replies will be limited.
And you can introduce her to any companion and she will start treating him/her as a part of your household. However, there are some companions that she will treat as unique individuals - if they are in the game and you have introduced Vilja to them, she will call them by name, know some of their stories, and she will talk about them in her dialog with you, the player. These companions are:

Neeshka
Rhianna
Sonia
Arren
Viconia (has not got appropriate conversation functions in the current versions, but I have helped Sulteric to set this up for the next version. Until then, there's a quick-fix in the Vilja mod that will still allow the girls to have some interaction.) *)
Stoker Wolf (has not got appropriate conversation functions, but I have added in a quick-fix in the Vilja mod to allow some interaction)
Saerileth (same as Stoker - quick-fix added to compensate for missing conversation function)
Valeria
Vincente

I haven't added in any unique conversation for Ruined Tails at this point. I feel that this mod is more a quest-mod than a companion mod and it wouldn't be 'fair' to try to add in unique conversation without me getting to 'know' him first. During the summer I will start a new game where I will a) play through the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves questlines in order to write appropriate quest-pvssyr for those and B) play through Ruined Tails and some other companion-oriented questmods. That way, I should be able to add appropriate dialog for interaction.

*) EDIT I just read that Sulteric will release his upgrade of Viconia this weekend - that should mean that she will have a working conversation.

I must say I've never had any archery problems with Vilja. I just thought it would be more realistic if companions used up the arrows they're given. However, if it's an Oblivion limitation then there's nothing do be done about it (although I'm convinced Ruin used his arrows)

What has bugged me about various companions is the insistence on giving them the LLgold item in their inventory, causing them to increasingly have more gold. I was dissapointed the find Vilja has this too :(
My problem with it is where is this money coming from? A little immersion breaking, but also, there is far too much money in the game. Several mods I use rebalance this somewhat (like OOO's increased costs and Enhanced Economy's pricing and item/gold removal)

When I was using Viconia, I used the CS to remove the LLgold but it still continued to grow. By the time I uninstalled her, she had something rediculass like 27k! Imagine if i'd used a gold is inventory item mod! She'd be unable to move!

My problem with it is where is this money coming from?

Are you SURE you want to know? :o

I wouldn't DARE to ask her... :shocking:

Else... as CdCooley already said... if you re-start the mod, she won't generate any further money. However, if you just upgrade, she probably will, just like Viconia did in spite or your CS-efforts.

Yeah, the problem with that system is it seems to take a D&D "everyone's a hero" point of view where all the NPCs you can companion up with are assumed to have the "level-appropriate" amount of gold similar to what the PC would have at the same level, but the way Oblivion's economy looks (without any special mods to improve that) then in that case, why does every merchant still have like 500-1000 gold max to barter with? If they were your companion, then they would suddenly have thousands more gold pieces. So are the merchants just stingy? But still, where is all this phantom wealth in Cyrodiil?

However, I don't know how many hardcoe RP'ers like me there are out there who would actually use companions that cost them money! To me, it would seem more realistic, though. But that's just my ramblings on that subject.

Actually... I have received letters from other players with exactly the same wish as you. Which was what inspired me to add this little extra 'feature' to Vilja. She won't ask for money for personal expenses that often, and it's up to you to decide whether or not to turn down her request. (If you have upgraded versions rather than restarting, you might of course end up in the rather dumb situation where you can grab her money, giver her back a part of it and she will thank you for it. Sigh... I'm sorry about that ;)

In Morrowind, I never go anywhere without at least one of his companions around. And Spot, of course, the wolf companion!
I know that Balmora elfgirl too! She surely doesn't seem very well behaved! And she definitely doesn't respect authorities! Maybe falling of that archway once will teach her a lesson! :) (Sad that there aren't any children in Cyrodiil yet)

Of course! Spot! I had him, though, I must confess - I renamed him "Wolfie" after a beloved Siberian Husky I once had. Still hopeful for a well put together Children of Cyrodiil mod (not Children of Oblivion, though. That would be horrible, I think! )

Oh, that's fine! You can actually do exactly what you say here, although I think the sentence is something like "Can you please keep quiet". She won't get happy, but it's nothing that a bunch of strawberries cannot cure. Actually, to most of her questions there are replies suitable for, well, less chevaleresque characters like your Valkar. But don't expect *her* replies to those to be very chevaleresque either!

Hahaha! Great. Now I'd kinda like to see how they would get along, although I don't think Red Sonia (for some reason it's not spelled "Sonja" in game) would be too happy about another woman following her man around on adventures... She already keeps a close watch on Eyja at the Skingrad house (which is why she prefers Bruma!) Then again, with Vilja she could have a shopping buddy for those times Valkar mysteriously 'slips away' for a solo dungeon crawl! (for a break from the women!) :P

Yes, Vilja should have enough personality and show enough emotion to fit into what you are looking for. Her longterm responses to your behaviour could be better tailored (strawberries tend to make her forget most evil deeds), but that's something I think I'll have to work on for the next version - we have now added so much already that I think at least I am on my way to lose track of what has been added and what was there in ver 1.

Those magical strawberries can do so much! :P

Ah yes, "feature creep" it affects us all, sadly... Well, try to stay focused! ;)

Oh, and on a side-note... it's not that often that I see someone posting that was registred in this community before me. But it's quite nice :). Cheers to good old 2002! :D

Cool. Always good to see someone who made it over from MW - although I know that community is still pretty alive. Yeah I actually lurked as a guest and originally had a different username (had the mods switch me over b/c I liked this one better) on the original forums when MW was still in development a little further back than that (maybe '01) I remember having discussions about how climbing might be implemented (via rope and grappling hooks). Here it is about a decade later and I still haven't gotten my usable rope! Still can't even climb for that matter!

I was once even a lurker on the Daggerfall mailing list listening to the wonderful tales from the Angry Porcupine. I often wonder how many (if any) of the people from that list made it to MW or even Oblivion and what they think of it!

Yup, cheers to '02 and the old days of TES in general and to bringing some of that magical je ne sais quoi back to the graphically updated beauty of the TES IV world! :foodndrink:

So far I've only run into one -- Companion Keric. I couldn't figure out why my PC was always too poor to afford even a room at an inn--until I caught him taking his 'retainer' out of my pocket.

I've also only ran into one... Constance in Morrowind, but she was a thief and occasionally stole money from the player. However, at other occasions she pickpocketed npcs and gave things to the player, so I guess in average she provided more than she took.

With Vilja, it is as already said no worries... it's up to you whether you want to give her a sum, and how large sum, for her personal expences. She'll appreciate it, though... and it won't happen so often that it gets a problem (and not until you have completed the original quest for her, i.e. the one that was there already in ver 1).

I'm not sure I'd dare to release a Children mod for Oblivion, at least not officially, considering the amount of... uhm... 'advlt' mods at Nexus with animations that could be misused. I'm not sure if I dare to say it, but I do have children in my Cyrodiil already... they are all talking with swedish accent, though.

Well... Vilja and Sonia gets along in my game, in fact Vilja told me the other day that Sonja had agreed to help out on Vilja's mission ;). And Vilja finds Sonja really beautiful (I don't know how Red Sonja looks, as I'm using the other one, but the one in my game is a handsome lady)

Actually, I'm not sure I "made it over from MW" - I still have one foot in each game so to say. Which you will notice with Vilja... she was born in Solstheim and has lived in Morrowind, and she will talk with lots of fondness over her old homecountry.
Morrowind still is my favorite game, and also the most moddable one - still there are things you can do in Oblivion that cannot be done in Morrowind. Although climbing obviously isn't one of them. (Didn't GhanBuriGhan make a climbing mod for Morrowind? I haven't tried it out, but I'm pretty sure he did...)

Also I was a lurker on the Daggerfall mailing list and loved that game to bits. The dungeons there are really scary!! Much scarier than in TES3 or TES4. I think it's the sound effects. One must say, though, that the map-size has shrunk quite a bit since Daggerfall. There you could travel all over Tamriel. In Oblivion you can run from one corner of Cyrodiil to the other in a day! Bearing this in mind, the whole TES5 could simply take place on a prison ship or maybe a back alley somewhere! :D

Well, that's good news. Jealous women can be disagreeable, though. :)
My Sonia is quite beautiful. I don't think she is actually named "Red Sonia" per se, but she is definitely based on the Red Sonja character. Mine is "Companion Sonia: Special Edition."by KoukouStudios & ThePriest909

From the Readme:
A special edition of my mod "Companion Sonia II" created according to my personal taste and needs of gameplay.
It doesn't belong to the Sonia 2 version chain.
I had a feeling you were still more a Morrowinder. ;) I check on those forums once in a blue moon, but I haven't played MW quite some time. After getting used to some of the newer gameplay features of Oblivion it's hard to go back... I even had MCA and the Unlimited View Distance and Graphics Extender and a whole ton of mods. Maybe that's why my Laptop actually runs Oblivion better (with less stutter anyway) than MW (at least the way I had it modded). That, and MW's code was apparently pretty inefficient by todays standards. I will always love Morrowind, and have fond memories of it, similar to Arena and Daggerfall, but can't go back for the same reasons. I guess I'm just a techno-junkie, although I'm also old-school in a lot of ways, too. Believe me, I avoided Oblivion and the OB forums for a long time, probably for many of the same reasons many MW die-hards still do, but once I made the commitment to move to OB, I guess I just have to keep moving forward...

But they say "never say never". One day, I may dig my MW disks out and reinstall, you never know. I have been known to fire up Daggerfall or even Arena on occasion (though Arena's dated graphics and homogeneous towns and people really make it rough on the eyes!) Hell, I still play Pac-Man once in a blue moon when the right mood strikes me!

Well, don't want to get too far OT and anger the thread police! :D
So I will say that I am definitely planning to add Vilja ver 2 (or 3 or 4, or whatever version it evolves into) to my game with my Breton mage character. Now, if I can just actually start that character... ^_^ let's see now...

A repost of a question from the RELz thread: how about turning Vilja's pvssyr off when in dangerous environment, like dungeons, ruins etc? It's just looks funny as she starts to talk right in the middle of me trying to be stealthy and not killed by a group of spectral warriors. If this was already discussed, feel free to ignore this post.

Thanks.

You can ask her to keep quiet and she will do so. It's currently in the "Travelling together" topic, but in the new version it will be in the "Let's talk" topic.
In the new version, I have tried to filter the dialog more carefully, and she also knows what kind of enemies there are in the dungeons, so her talking should be better relevant.

What I'm thinking now is that I could add some responses to her to the topic where you ask her to shut up, where she will recognize that you are in a dangerous environment, and respond accordingly. But I still think it should be optional to turn off her pvssyr. Myself, I find it rather handy to know she is behind me in a cave because I can hear her voice occasionally.

I'll look into it :). And thank you for the suggestion! :)

I can now report the good news that the levelled gold will be gone also if you upgrade - ie you don't have to restart with the 'new' Vilja to remove the annoying extra gold.

And there's now an option so that she can keep quiet but still make quest-related pvssyr-remarks.

Fortunately, Vilja is not a pvssyr-box, otherwise ... if you tell her to keep quiet, I suppose she could burst. :talk:

It seems the one and only companion I ever need is coming along with Vilja 2.

I tried a couple of companion-quest MODs but removed them after a short time because they got either boring, had too many bugs or simply brought my character in trouble when sneaking or fighting.

I have to admit that I did not try Vilja 1 but following this tread you made me longing for ending my PCs life as a lonely wolf.

If it would not be for you and a couple of your fellow Oblivion modders, I would have abandoned the game a long time ago.
I do hope that Bethesda knows what treasure they have with their devoted modding community.
Thank you very much indeed.

I've been haveing problems with http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1095643-melting-body-bug/ (*see post #9), and when I tried Vilja, she began showing the same symptons, I haven't got any possibles on what might be causing it, I have seen a few other posts with people with the same problems, but nothing in the way of answers...

In my previous Oblivion installation I've both CM Partners (omod) 2.0 and Vilja 1.0 mod activated at same time without any problem, but the only thing I can tell you is that I've both mods configure as essentials so that could be a conflict.

If I remember correctly I also have Vilja loaded after CM Partners standard plugins, so it might be a good idea to check any mod conflict in Wrye Bash.
You can create a *clean save* in Wrye Bash by having the gamesave.bak overwrite your current gamesave.ess, just be sure both files have the same name & date.

Thank you for your very kind words :)

I do hope Vilja can live up to your expectations. To me, any game world gets boring after a certain time if there is no-one there to share it with. Which of course is why I'm so eager to have a companion whose company I enjoy. I hope Vilja will add a new dimension to your Cyrodiil, as she has to mine! :)

Actually, she does already.

Since I thought, you are going to use Vilja 1 as the foundation of your development project I installed V1 to get a taste of things to come.
Well I must congratulate you, she is just the companion I was looking for, this girl makes the game much more enjoyable and she did change the way I play it quite a bit.
No rushing from quest to quest anymore, but lots of talking, breaks for something to eat or a drink and not to forget Vilja only got one friendly hit so far, that means she also does not get in the way during fighting.
I have come to love this girl in the short time she accompanies my character.

By the way, I really like her accent. Since English is not my native language I really appreciate the way she talks, you did an outstanding job on the voice acting.
Thank you again, I am eagerly waiting for Vilja 2.

I did have both mods installed as essential, Boss does all my sorting, tried clean saves, even started a New game, same problem, has to be a Mod that causes this, but the Biggest problem is it might take a few weeks to show up. No conflicts show up in Wrye Bash either the mods window or Installers, I've noticed some flags with Lost Spires in TES4Edit, I'll have to keep testing.
I just can't belive there haven't been a lot more posts about this, I did see one other on Nexus, and a reference to Bags of Flesh on these forms, but I don't remember where the latter was...

Awww... that's really good to hear :)

And thank you for the kind words on my voice acting - I really was quite embarrassed over my accent when version 1 was released, and worried what people would say. But it appears that my voice has been accepted, and I'm glad for that. It's actually quite fun to voice act :).

CdCooley has put quite some effort into writing scripts that should take care of upgrade issues, but of course there is no way to make a 100 % reliable promise that an upgrade will be flawless. So, please take it a bit easy right now, as the release should only be days away. And, above all, do not use quick-saves! These tend to include 'artifacts' from old saves, and one of my playtesters had significant problems upgrading from a quicksave (in fact, I think he ended up having to restart the mod instead).

And I wait with bated breath! But I can be very patient for a good mod. So please take your time to get her done "right". :)

I am finally getting my new mod list worked out for my new game, and there is definitely room in it for Vilja. In fact, I may add CM companions so I'll have some random people to team up with/hire (a wizard needs back up!) while waiting, but my "main companion slot" is reserved for your Vilja. I am ready for an entirely new oblivion experience this time and Vilja seems like the perfect companion to round it out!

No pressure or anything. :P

Oh, and I like that you seemed to have fixed the money issue. Now I don't have to worry about getting rich too quick! ;)

I'm so sorry that I haven't got any help to offer :(.

Yes, as you say, it has to be a mod conflict of some kind, but obviously a rare one as it hasn't got more attention on the forums.

I hope that you will be able to use Vilja 2 anyway, and I do hope you will be able to find out what this is all about.

I will try to help him as much I can.
I was impressed with your voice act on the first release, so I've been waiting for the new version of Vilja.

I'm still looking forward to Vilja2, but I'll probably have to dump a few mods first...

Could you post your loadorder please?
It might give me a hint what's causing your problem.

**Another quirk I had, was Randi, when casting Bound Armor, would go nvde instead...

*** TES4Edit, show conflicts with Blood&Mud, ubder Dialog topic Assult (Angriff) and Murder (Mord), apperntly language (not sure of any Relavance)
Plus under Quest there are conflicts with The Lost Spires, under Vampire and Dremora

other than that, there's Nothing apperant...

You should have the bashed patch.esp loaded last of your loadorder. Have you try to deactive the Lost Spire mod?

I have tried, but on a game where it was allready infected, in witch case it had no effect, I will have to start a New charcter without it..., even then it might be good for several weeks before showing symptoms....

*Sorting is according to BOSS,,,

If not any problem occur through playing for several hours or days, it might be that mod which is your culprit.
However if it still exist then try to deactive the IDKRRR_C_race.esp (required for the corean race / cute elf) or use the Mod Checker feature in Wrye Bash.

CdCooley has put quite some effort into writing scripts that should take care of upgrade issues, but of course there is no way to make a 100 % reliable promise that an upgrade will be flawless. So, please take it a bit easy right now, as the release should only be days away.

:celebration:

Vilja and Kragenir's Death Quest are the last two mods I need to create the Oblivion equivalent of nirvana, so this is excellent news indeed. Looking forward to the release!
