Companions lose weapons at Gomorrah

After visiting Gomorrah and spending a lot of time playing (it was at least 2 hours and I don't have any saves from before entering Gomorrah) I later realise ED-E doesn't have his weapons anymore, some valuable ones at that. I read on the internet that it is a programming error and not a matter of the omertas stealing my stuff. is there a way to get my weapons back?

edit: I installed the patch but now my player just gets stuck after entering and the greeting omerta thug doesn't say anything. I'm guessing the patch is older than a recent update so the code wasn't compatible...the patch script seemed simple enough though, why the hell is this even a problem anymore.
I don't even remember all of the things that I've lost, among other things a fully conditioned hunting revolver and thermic lance, fat man with little boy mod, light machine gun, and a shovel(which I never got to use), probably other things too
Bethesda fix this already, how do you screw this up when apparently it got patched already but now is screwed up again.

I think you can use the console command "enableplayercontrols" to fix the stuck omerta greeting.

Steam should install the patches you need. What patch did you install?

Don't rely on quicksaves alone. You need to make NEW manual saves every once in awhile (maybe every 10 mins or so).

Do a quick game cache verify to make sure nothing is corrupted:
1) Open Steam
2) Right click on Fallout: New Vegas
3) Hit Properties
4) Click the "Local Files" tab
5) Click on "Verify Integrity of Game Cache"

I'll give that a try, thanks

edit:
game cache integrity check says that 1 file failed to validate and will be reacquired, but once it downloads i get the same result. I'm no expert but I doubt this is linked to the problem, the game runs fine and is up to date, it seems like a issue purely with the coding.

this was a patch created by someone on the internet, my game was already fully up to date with official patches.

I had 4 separate saves, but it was so long after I realised it, that I had saved over each one.

others on the internet have come up with this problem too. Apparently it was fixed in an update but then broken again in the latest one....
