Companions now stupid as hell since patch?

Post » Tue Apr 27, 2010 10:14 pm

I'm wondering if this is just my game, just Arcade Gannon, or if this is something to do with the patch.

I gave Arcade the custom Gauss rifle because my character is bad with energy weapons and doesn't need it. Lately though, whenever I'm trying to sneak attack or snipe some enemies, the MOMENT I shoot one shot, Arcade is either riding my ass, literally standing like RIGHT behind me (hell, he'll even push me forward) so that my next shot will shoot and break his very expensive gun, OR he'll get in front of me and start crouching up and down, over and over, the gun flashing by my scope, as if to taunt me.

Anyone else experiencing this post-patch? It might just be Arcade, cause I don't remember Boone doing this, but I'm not sure.

I've had problems like this with Cass for quite awhile. Long before the last patch. Boone sometimes too does this.

Yeah I've also had boone do this too. Even though I always have boone set at distance.. Fairly weird glitch.

I have always had that problem with companions who apparently think that when Asai busts off a few rounds it is a starter's pistol for the Special Olympics 100 meter dash. No matter how i set them if there are multiple targets, and if i do not one shot one kill the first target i got a companion running through my field of fire blocking the next shot. I play on HC i can not tell you how many restarts i have had because Veronica, Cass, Arcade, Lilly, Raul all want to be out in front like holy [censored] we are going to run out of enemies so i had better get some before Asai shoots them all and they will be gone forvever. In normal mode they were just incapped so it was less annoying because they would get up afterwards. It is like when i PLay Left 4 Dead 2, as a player who will almost always crouch then shoot for better accuracy and to allow the folks who should be behind a shot, it is quite hilarious to watch folks run right through me and out in front as i am shooting which usually means they get shot in the ass once or twice. I have gotten to the point where i tell folks right at the beginning, this is how it works and i do not want to hear any whinning, if your running around like an idiot out in front you are going to get shot, I am not going to take damage holding back a shot because you can not control yourself and do not know how to play. With the companions as a hardcoe player (dead is dead) i usually reserve companions for pack mules and perk combos because of thier fragility. I will enter a vault lets say and immediatly tell the companions to wait here at the begining, trucking the goodies up to them as i fill up because they are more of a hinderance, especially inside, it is annoying out in open terrain but at least i have room to move.

A much needed behavioral fix for the AI would be a godsend

Weird. Boone never does it for me.

lol op that was funny.................. I had them do it pre-patch as well.

Followers in fo3 and nv are pure tards. I love them, but they seriosly need to look at old tactical shooter controls for them. They are too insane.

The AI for companions is so screwed up. That wheel that they give for the companions hardly helps anything anyways.

What I like is when you FT somewhere and they immediately run away from you, over a hill and up a mountain until they're so far away you can barely see them, then turn around and come running back. They're all maaaaaaad, mad I tell you. :)

(and yes I know why they do that, it's still funny)

they ALL do that for me, except Ed-e. I'll load up on Steady, crouch down with my trusty Sniper to take a shot, and Cass's butt pops up almost immediately in my scope. All my companions are suffering from severe butt-shot-itus. Like... gah Veronica, there are 8 fiends here, go fight the one I'm NOT aiming at...

lol.

I think in the next fallout they need to drastically improve the AI in the game not just for the companion but the all the NPCS int he game as well.
