I recently completed DA:O and its a great rpg. It is good that Skyrim has a better third person view!
Oh and if you hate a game that is not first person then you cant like videogames at all, and thats no way to compare a game, btw.

If you've played Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion or Fallout 3, I think you would know that your hope will be realized.

The official trailer already shows game play in first person, however it'll be like a oblivion by the looks of it, you can optionally be in either first or third person at the touch of a button.

Dragon Age: Origins was ok, however for a game that was suppose to have some fair amount of replay value, I found no urge to replay it... which speaks volumes. that said I don't think you can compared DA:O and TES, they are completely different, TES even has a completely different third person view, DA:O is closer to overhead while TES is still generally behind the character in it's third person view... also they just fundamentally play differently.

As for Dragon Age 2, that's just a step in the wrong direction for me, moving from having a fully customizable character in the first game to a preset character in the 2nd.... the other way around I could understand but either they should have started from the start with pre-made characters or stuck to customization.

The first DA looked like poo poo to me. Then I played the demo of the second one and it tasted and smelled like poo poo. Dragon Age to me is poo-poo. I will wipe off the poo poo with Two Worlds and then I'll eat the decadent meal that is Skyrim.

Seems like another useless thread about two games that are completely different in mechanics.

Its interesting as people tends to hate Dragon Age, to me its one of the best RPG of this generation.

DragonAge2 Its Awsome Game!!!

But In My Opinion! -> Skyrim Its Much Better! for sure! and there are many reasons for that...

I hope TES-Skyrim Will keep ALL the things from TES-Oblivion & adds much more! comparing to DA2 that deleted some things from DA-Origins Like Companions Customize. too bad :(

You can't even compare the games. It's apples and oranges.

One is a sandbox solo RPG. The other is a party-based linear story RPG. Try playing a party based RPG in first person. I can't even think of one ever being made, because it just doesn't work.

Haven't played Dragon Age yet. Probably should. I sort of like the art design (it lacks the Fable-ish cartoony design that was in Oblivion and unfortunately at least partially in Skyrim) but I am just bored of the setting. It's your typical High Fantasy, plate armor and magic everywhere RPG. Everytime I watch the trailers its like "Oh look, 15th century Europe with Harry Potter levels of magic and a demon invasion. Haven't seen that before...." Same thing with Demon's Souls. Looks great, but man do they need a new theme.

Actually I meant to say "Third person".

Actually I edited that post to add stuff but as it's essentially been said by several people now, the series has always let you be in either 1st or 3rd person view and is generally changeable at the touch of the button. The only exception really in Oblivion was talking what would always shift to 1st person (and then back to whatever view you were in before talking) but conversations have been overhauled in Skyrim and it sounds like now people will just talk to you, not sure how responses will work yet, it will be interesting to see.

Tried to get into DA:O a couple of times, it just doesn' do it for me. I think it is because it is the same genre as TES being fantasy RPG, but i prefer the first person element of TES. I do like third person RPG games such as GTA, Mass Effect etc... Just didn't like DA:O. So for me Skyrim wipes the floor!

Hey guys, I know this thread will get locked soon - but what's up with the whole I hate this but i praise this thing? Can't I like both games? Besides, Skyrim is coming out WAY after these 2 games. But just to throw my opinion here about the comparison
Now I know I don't really want to compare these 2 because they are both great RPG's, but this is where it changes: While Dragon age shines in it's story, companions, and characters, it fails in places where TES wins - Free roaming, the ability to do JUST ANYTHING. In my opinion, i play these games for different reasons, whereas in DA I play to understand and sink into the story that is being told, interact with other npc/companions, TES: oblivion and whatever, I play to experience that loner type of style, you go you do things that you want and no-one cares about you, you don't care about anyone, you can just completely ignore the main storyline and go do what YOU want. The thing in at least Oblivion is that I found the story very dull, there were some side quests that were WAY more interesting. That's just my 2 cents, but just to say here both series of games are great as rpgs.

This is less a comparison of these two games and more an expression of your opinion regarding view point.

However, I did not like the first Dragon Age at all. I won't even try the second one. (This has nothing to do with the fact that it's third-person.)

Comparing the two is not really recommended because TES and Bioware games in general tend to focus on different thing.

Bioware games tend to be bit more linear, and more character based, that's why they have better told stories.
TES games on the other hand focus on freedom and the open world.

i really, really liked the first Dragon Age. i haven't yet played the second, and due to what people have been saying, i'll wait until the price has gone down a bit. i don't think you can really compare DA and TES. completely different games.

I love Origins and Dragon Age 2 to an extent but this isn't even a contest. Skyrim will destroy it, the main reason being the freedom to do what you want and an open world.

i've only played Redguard and the cellphone games, so i for one am very concerned. what if they go that route? this will be the worst game ever!

also i'll be genuinely surprised if Skyrim gets less than a 90 on Metacritic.

Dragon Age origins was a phenomenal game in almost every respect, it's few short comings such as graphics and scaling are easily overlooked by the rest of the game- and even 180ed by mods that fix said things. Dragon Age 2 however, was an abomination on many levels- and absolute mockery of Origins i have little good to say about Dragon age 2. I only finished Dragon Age 2 because of my love for the first game, i wanted to at least have an idea of what happened in that really bad and short game. I loved the Dragon Age universe, and the first game- it's the only thing that kept me playing to the end.

Skyrim will be first and third person play, as not only the history of the elder scrolls game show, but also the screen shots, video and other examples of Skyrim. I don't mind third person games when practical, but i much prefer first person games. I didn't even play more than a half hour of Deep Space because of the horrid third person view, who makes a horror based game in third person? It's just..weird.
