Compass is optional!

Post » Tue Sep 20, 2011 1:55 am

No celebrating from me. :) I love the compass and any markers they want to put on it. I can make it more unobtrusive with the opacity setting and could see that in the video we got a while back. My only issue with the compass is the location so I'll still be needing a mod to make it the perfect compass for my gameplay by moving it down to the bottom somewhere instead of in the sky. :)

I  the compass too and have no plans moving or removing it.

The hud from what I have seen so far, is among the best huds I have
ever seen in a game. Functional, great design, very stylish, everything
in the right places etc.

Couldn't be happier with it...

I've already accepted the compass as a part of my immersive gameplay- It's my character's internal compass/navigational skills. So I'll probably be playing with the compass.

Well if it IS all or nothing, you could make the HUD transparent enough to see through, but still solid enough to be able to see your health bars. That way your field of vision is not unduly limited, but you won't die because you didn't know you were getting your butt kicked.

Wow, that's the second time I get the impression that one of "my" (ehh, probably not, but don't ruin my illusion :P) suggestions are taken into account. I kept yelling for an opacity slider when everyone else thought an on/off switch would be just fine. Now there is opacity control available for game on screen elements, which can be utilized by modders for other stuff (I don't know if it had it before, or what could be done).

For me it's not because I don't want on screen GUI being intrusive on my immersion, but to be able to hide information I don't really want in order to make the game last longer.

Hopefully we're able to play effectively without it too. Quest givers need to provide some directions or its gonna be hard playing without it. Otherwise great news.

Me too. I used the compass liberally in Oblivion and plan to do the same in Skyrim. Since the Dragon Word Walls are hidden in dungeons, I plan on entering every single dungeon I find.

Doesn't it seem like every time Pete answers a question, he just raises more questions?

It's a win/win for us both.

BEST news so far, if we are really able to turn only the compass off....

I tweeted Pete and asked if we can turn off specific HUD individually or if it's always all at the same time.
No answer yet.

I personally think it IS going to be all or nothing. I'm betting on an option in settings being called: "HUD Opacity."

wow, even getting news that we can turn off the compass... people STILL complain.

anyway, im glad we can change the opacity and make the HUD invisible, i might actually do that, even though i didnt have a problem with the new compass.

Yeah, most likely. I play with a compass, so no biggie for me. But I can't see them individualizing each aspect of the HUD.

That's is some good news. Though I doubt I will turn off the compass. I want to know which direction I am going, as far as markers though......

I didn't see a lot of complaining. I'm planning on using the compass, the markers, and anything else I can lol. Dhovakiin is a freaking DRAGONBORN! Of course he can sense where the evil-infested cave is. :whistling:

Jesuz this site moves fast...

Someone will have a problem with that too. If that's an option they'll want to adjust the size of the crosshair

Well it's all about customization. Hell, BIS' http://takeonthegame.com/ will even have kind of an editor where you can http://takeonthegame.com/social-media/?pid=79 where you see fit. The more the merrier, I say.

I doubt that as well, but we know that crosshair is always (as far as I know) individual in games when it comes to HUD, and Pete mentioned that amongst the compass and the bars. Lifts up my hopes a little.

Yep. I was happy with just the markers, but opacity is nice too.

I just can't imagine playing without a crosshair. Or the bars for that matter.
