A compiled list of concerns

Running & Gunning really only requires one skill: reflexes. The main reason for it being effective is, that you usually take the enemy by surprise or from behind.

Which is a good thing. I want a game that is fast paced, you can't be fast paced if you don't build a game around reflexes. If you have to stand still and readjust after every shot because of massive recoil you just slow down the game. And that's not what I expect from BRINK. It was really well done in TF2, no penalty for shooting midair or anything. Playing Scout in TF2 was awesome. A shame that game is getting more and more ridiculous with silly hats.

I don't care about ADS anyway, at least in a not-realistic shooter. It's a nice feature for titles like Bad Company 2 or CoD, but those are generally much slower.

Fast paced doesn't necessarily mean that you have to have fast reflexes, it just means that there is stuff happening constantly, so there are no moments where everything is calm.

CoD and Battlefield can be fast paced as well. The latter rarely happens to be, but it can. And the first found a good balance between hip-firing and ADS, imo; allowing you to use hip-fire from close-to-mid distance and support ADS at mid-to-long range.

I know that CoD and Battlefield (especially BC2) can be fast paced, but compared to Quake 3 they're still slow. And that's what I'd expect BRINK to be like, only with intense teamplay.

It won't be as fast as Quake 3, it will be more along the lines of ETQW (Same engine with lots of modifications). I don't think that Quake3 gamespeed would fit in this game, that's too fast paced for an objective type shooter. It should definetely be as fast as ETQW, maybe even a bit faster.

Not sure if someone already said this but grenades have a cooldown so there will be no grenade spamming.

Also I'm assuming that grenades will be used more as crowd control items as they are not OHK's and sit you on your ass when they explode near you.

This is common knowledge to most people.

I think the Quake and Unreal Tournament games were ridiculously fast, though. Even Counterstrike was really fast.

>.> I better be able to see my feet/legs when I look down. I'm sick of games (Like ETQW) where you look down and theres nothing, whats even funnier is when you jump (while looking down) and there a lil puff of dust from where your feet should have landed.
It's even worse with games that have a 3rd person view you can switch to and 1st person view still no feet/legs

I don't think that seeing your feet is the most important game mechanic. ^^ In games they only reduce the view when you look down from a ledge.

CS was always been and will always be slow (unless they bring back strafe jumping). Quake and UT were fast (Quake even more), but that was great fun.

I don't expect BRINK to be equally fast, because that would be frustrating to many people who get motion sickness from that ( :P ) and as I've seen in the Trailers the game is slower. But I want firefights with a lot of action and movement, not those realistic "stop, crouch, ADS, fire, move" thing you get from CoD and the likes. Not that I dislike that in general, but for BRINK with the SMART movement it wouldn't fit imo.

But it makes it look so fake and unpolished. And I never found it reduced when playing Halo Reach.

Yeah, being able to see yourself is a nice touch, and I don't think it blocks away too much either.

I remember being promised this in Bioshock 2, but no :<

I'm pretty sure brink has visible bodies, its a parkour game. Would be pretty odd doing something like the slide tackle where you couldn't see your legs. Being able to look down and see your feet also make it easier for people to learn to do the SMART functions manually, as positional awareness is likely to be very important for that.

Yeah I remeber in the very beginning of Bioshock 2 In the cinematic you can see you reflection, but when the game starts, look down and lol no reflection and no feet.

Yeah that's another reason to be able to see your legs. I just hope it's in the game.

Does the slide tackle move the person tackled back some? Or do they get flipped over and behind you? Like could you slide tackle someone right over a railing? Or would you actually just end up between them and the railing?

When you take out someone's legs, they usually keep doing in the direction they were going, and fall over you. If they are standing still, that means they usually fall straight down. I'm more curious if you keep going after you knock someone over, or stop when you hit a person.

True. Wonder if you'll be able to exploit physics at all and send people flying off ledges into the murky depths.

Well, there are no invisible walls, so i imagine if people go over the edge, they are gone. Only question here is how often there are places to fall. At container city, the only time you are near the water is at Security spawn.

Also, as SD have put some effort into quality animations, it would probably not look too bad.

First off, Brink is NOT a parkour game - it is a team based shooter. The parkour is integrated in such a way, that it is as natural as shooting and not the main focus of the game. Also, I don't think that players will be able to see their feet (even when sliding) since in every video that shows players sliding, feet are not visible. It may add to the "realism," but it add nothing to the gameplay and can essentially detract from gameplay, having feet visible on screen while players are trying to shoot, slide around, so it is essentially....useless.

-Pea shooters (I'm not talking one shot kill, but WAY less than BF2 or TF2)

hmm, in tf2, snipers kill everyone in 1 hit. spies kill everyone in 1 hit. and every other class save heavies and pyro's can kill every class other then heavy in 2 hits... so i'm not seeing this way less shots required then in tf2, but not being one shot kills...

So, basically, I could have avoided the first half of your post by saying "Brink is a game with parkour". Getting a little nit-picky aren't you?

If you actually went and checked if you can see feet, then kudos, I was just speculating. But, n games where you can actually look down and see your body, I don't find it distracting at all, since when you are looking forward, nothing is there. The only thing your body would get in the way of is shooting the ground. (although in most games you can still shoot the ground anyway, since you cant shoot yourself)
