Because even though they said it's a new engine, it most certainly is not. They were exaggerating a bit when they said they modified everything in this new engine; it's pretty clearly a heavily modified Fallout 3 engine, with some bits still left over.

All this list implies, right now, is that they didn't really overhaul the metadata that the script compiler uses. For all we know those functions may not exist in the game. Once I get the cleaned up list, we'll see.

Because it isn't. The engine is built ON TOP OF what they have - they had already said this.
Between the new scripting language, new renderer (i.e. not Gamebryo), completely different animation and plant systems, and apparently changed meshes format, I think it's fair to say that the engine is certainly not "Gamebryo" 1.5. You really expect there to be no leftovers at all from what they based it on? Please.

The core renderer's still based on Gamebryo code. They have revamped most of the other graphic engine stuff though.

I've updated the OP with a little better formatted list. After doing some clean up, it doesn't look like there are that many unused functions (maybe 15 or so). I didn't bother to look to see if those old opCodes call empty stub functions though.

Wow, that svcks about not being bale to get references by clicking on stuff. I hadn't gotten far enough to try that yet.

You shouldn't need to set you follower to essential. They are that way already.

BTW. The best command I have found so far is 'psb'. It grants you:

434 spells, 75 shouts, and 81 words.

However, I can't figure out how to spend dragon souls on the shouts to unlock them.

Because the only thing Gamebryo was the renderer which they remade themselves, that is why gamebryo is no longer on the box. They remade basically anything that wasn't theirs, and heavily upgraded everything else. So in effect, enough has changed to call it a new engine. Nearly everything about the engine was in house made, built on top of itself over the past ~12 years since morrowind was first being developed.

Sure its PR, but not bad PR. You people act like PR is always bad.

Setactorfullname takes the datatype "MESSAGE". Without access to the construction set, you won't be able to create your own custom MESSAGE. Try "player.setactorfullname 4C72A." It'll work, because 4C72A refers to a MESSAGE.

I've been trying to use FNVedit to create my own MESSAGE, but the format has changed so it won't edit properly.

So in the meantime, if you want to rename your character, you have to use showracemenu. Unfortunately, that'll mess up your appearance, which you'll have to redo.

They "remade" just enough to be able to defend if the Gamebryo creators came after them in court.

The fact the creators of Gamebryo went bankrupt and the new owners are a bunch of bankruptcy suits who wouldn't know code if you typed it in front of their faces helped plenty I'm sure.

This "new" engine is barely any better than the "old" one.

And has all the same nice little quirks, like the ridiculously bad physics for one example.

Instead of licensing a real engine made for the 21st century, they chose to keep polishing a turd in the hope a diamond would pop out ( and save themselves a license fee ).

While the engine they used isnt such a phenomenal different to the one used in Fallout 3/Oblivion, i am still quite impressed by what they have achieved. Sure, lots of things can be improved, but i am not worrying about it too much. In time, we will have loads of visual mods and texture packs. Just look at how far Fallout New Vegas has come. :)

Oh snap. Could this be a way of fixing the HDR timing? Right now it cycles the light levels waay too fast and literally gives me headaches when looking at stuff around town. I might have to experiment with this.

Edit: Says it needs float parameters (or something like that). I thought maybe it was a simple console command that you could change by putting a different number. I guess not. I don't know anything about scripting or hex editing, so I guess I'm out of luck currently.

Gamebryo has nothing to do with physics since that is a separate engine from the renderer and it is likely Havok for Skyrim.

PS. It is likely the people that implemented the physics in Skyrim that screwed it up and so far it seems worse (in some ways) then previous games.

I haven't been able to find it yet. The old 'tdt' and 'sdt' commands from Oblivion don't work, and the 'fps' command doesn't seem to work either. See my other response in this same post.

You'll find that they left many remnants of their old games in this engine. There are lots of old functions and variables that don't seem to do anything in this new engine. All you can do is really try it out and see what happens.

Well, I for one am waiting on the "Construction Set", hoping that it at least has in-line command finishing and reference. So say you start typing "AddItem", it'll offer AddItem up, then when you go past that, a tool tip will highlight what is needed next. Also, having that would mean the compiler would compile test the line and offer complaints right away, rather than all at once when you save the script. Having an in-line documentation for each command would also benefit modders as the creation time would lessen drastically. The information for the commands would be there and you wouldn't need to surf to get the answer on some command (which may or may not be accurate). I'd wait extra months for the "Construction Set" to be self-sufficient and self-contained. Would seriously make modding this game a lot better than any other one they've made, plus having the ability to have multiple scripts open at once would benefit as well.

Has anyone seen anything on the AI end of the game? I did notice that some of the "DUH" is gone, example: Oblivion (hide behind a tree, watch the archer shoot the tree repeatedly), Skyrim (They actually strafe to find a line). What is missing (and wonder if there's any way to do that mod wise), is there is no "Aim Error" (like we all aim perfectly). With an "Aim Error", firing an arrow won't always go in the exact direction you aimed at (and for a lot of people, it shouldn't, until you get GOOD at it). Tossing a fireball at someone, could possibly miss (maybe you didn't throw it at the right angle). So far I've only been accurate. :toughninja:

Any clue which command locks the player and moves them like the tutorial does? Thats a fantastic option for "making you do something you don't want to", as part of a quest situation.

One thing I *will* be waiting on, is a mod to SKIP the tutorial (because it's LOOOONG).
