Complete Vanilla Crashes on Tutorial's Archer Firing

Post » Sat Jul 16, 2016 8:19 am

Hello forum,

so I've had over 400 hours in Skyrim over the years, but had it removed from my computer for almost a year. Just yesterday I went to reinstall the game for a new adventure and do my best to get a shade of an essential mod collection together. (nothing compared to the 200+ mods I used before)

...However, that didn't work out, as new games would crash upon reaching Helgen gate, just when it opened. I was too lazy to figure out the issue and removed all the mods again, which means of course: Vanilla Skyrim

..Yet the game still crashes, just somewhat later, right after you four have to get out of the transport wagon. There is this guy from Rorikstead which runs, the women yells "Archer!!", the guy draws, and upon release - CTD.

That sounds like your classical animation mod crash, but of course, there are no mods. Script-crash could also be, but the only scripts in the data folder were from SKSE, which is meant to be for this version. I went to delete it nonetheless, and also had Scripdragon, Wryebash, FNIS, and well, anything deleted. ...But it still crashes at that exact moment.

I cannot integrate pictures into the post, but here are links that show my now empty Data folder, and the activated mod list from the vanilla launcher:

I also don't have saves or any kind of .ini or customization from before. Heck, this is even installed into a new partition and new steam library. ("verify file integrity" from steam has been done a couple times too btw.)

The game used to run fine as said for over 400h on this exact same pc, which hasn't changed hardware wise, so that should not be the issue. I often experienced crashes before due to mod reasons, but always managed to sort things out without internet help via re-arrangement, deletion or wryebashes' anolysis, yet this now is just vanilla, so I have simply no idea what can be done to fix what I didn't break.

Thank you very much. There was indeed some leftover sound folder in data/ that hadn't been uninstalled by either Mod Manager or Workshop. Seems there was an effect for firing arrows that didn't work well, because after its deletion everything was fine, and now I can also play well with mods again.
