Completely stuck with installation of mods - over 401 esps

Post » Mon Nov 29, 2010 6:19 pm

OK, seems like I didn't explain myself clear -- :

1. Moved my Oblivion folder out (whole)
2. "Uninstalled" Oblivion
3. Installed another one to a new folder, with SI and patch
4. Activated: Oblivion.esm, DLCShiveringIsles.esp
5. Installed: OBSE v18 from obse.silverlock.org
6. Installed: Elys' Uncapper v0.98 to /data/obse/plugins/
7. Deleted Oblivion.ini from /my games/oblivion/
8. Started Oblivion up, new game, fast character create, powerattack
9. Crash.

Just trying to get everything clear here:
  • Did you download fresh copies of OBSE and Elys' Uncapper?
  • Did you test powerattack before installing OBSE?
  • Did you test powerattack after installing OBSE but before installing Uncapper?

Thanks,

gtm

Well, you've definitely narrowed it down to one particular set of circumstances. So far, that's good troubleshooting. Sadly, I admit I am stumped at this point. I know you asked in the Uncapper thread, but you might try posting in the OBSE thread. Those guys are smart. If I were you I would spell out very clearly the conditions under which this happens, e.g.:
  • Fresh install of Oblivion plus SI. No crash on powerattack.
  • Install OBSE. No crash on powerattack.
  • Install Elys' Uncapper. Crash on powerattack.

I'll be curious to see if they can help you over there. Good luck!

When you uninstalled Oblivion, did you delete your entire My Games folder, including the Saves? (You do not have to delete the saves, but at least move them until you have tested thoroughly.)

I do not have any saves. I didn't delete My Games folder, but besides Oblivion.ini which I renamed to oblivion.ini.old, there's nothing here.

There are other INI files in there. Please, just try moving the My Games\Oblivion folder onto the desktop.

Still nothing, crash.

However, a very, very important note: I've noticed that it doesn't really rely on powerattack, but holding left mouse button. As you know, when you aren't in 'fighter mode' (turned on by pushing F button), you can also click LMB (left mouse button) to turn it on. But it doesn't attack immidietaly. If you hold LMB while outside fighter mode, it won't enter it AND do powerattack, it'll 1st enter it and you need to stop holding LMB and click to attack or hold LMB again to actually attack/powerattack.

Key part: it's not crashing on powerattack. It's crashing on holding LMB. While outside fighter mode, I holder LMB, the character raised his fists up, but then it crashed. So it isn't powerattack.

Damn, if not our troubleshooting experience, we wouldn't go through this. Later after I play DotA tour game, I need to collect all information I have and repost it in OBSE thread...

Cheers and thank you :)

After the crash, open obse.log and elys_uncapper.log (both in your Oblivion folder) and copy-paste the contents here.
Also, if you are receiving a Windows error message, please post the exception module and offset. These will indicate exactly where the crash is occurring.
You may want to contact whoever (if anyone) is currently maintaining the Uncapper. Elys is long gone.

AFAIK nobody is mantaining the Uncapper. Last update was in 2008.

Anyway, here are logs, elys_uncapper.log doesn't exist though.

Windows CTD message:

Elys' uncapper was made quite some time ago, and reached a good stable point, multiple of them, actually. There is no need for anyone to maintain it, really. As was said earlier, we do not often hear of users having trouble with it. This is the first time I have actually dealt with one (or helping with it, anyway...)

Indeed. It's also nothing suprising that nobody is mantaining it, its function is simple, and I'm into computers a bit too, so I personally have no idea what could cause crash in SUCH A SIMPLE PLUGIN.

There's no .ini file.

Aulix, have you tried troubleshooting your hardware? The mouse itself? Maybe switch out mice and test? Have you checked into mouse shortcuts that may be enabled and interrupting the game's function when you hold click-hold the left button?

Other than the above, which is probably a long shot, I'm out of ideas. Sorry.

Actually hotkey mods can cause issues with keyboards. I do not know about mice. There are a couple of Oblivion.ini settings that might be relevant. There is one for background keyboard, and I think there is one for the mouse too. I would also try a clean boot or safe mode or something.

The key part is that I have G5 and never had problems with it. I actually played Oblivion with it, around 1-2 years ago, I don't remember.

Keyboard is so simple that I doubt anything could cause problems.

Besides... This happens ONLY in Oblivion with Elys. There is ini file for 0.98, but there wasn't any for 0.96, and it didn't work either.

Have you tried rolling back OBSE? This is such an odd case...

Dunno where to download an older version. Also, even so, it won't help us much - after all, most if not all mods require v18+.

True, arggh... Power attack... ?? I wonder if this could be an issue with some non-Oblivion part or your setup...?

LMB? Okay, I misspoke, sorry. You've checked your INI settings... Do you have your keys remapped or something? Do you have another program running related to your mouse? Try connecting a simple mouse.

Stackhash errors aren't particularly fun, mostly because they don't point to anything in particular, but they do indicate that something is wrong with your system. Brilliant, I know.

I don't have any keys remapped, I don't have any mouse programs running.

I'll try reinstalling drivers in meanwhile I'm awaiting for scruggy's answer on this case.

Aequitas - I have Win7 x64 and Creative Alchemy supported game too. X-Fi Gamer, to be specific.
