Completing Quests in the Early Levels

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 1:02 pm

During levels 1-10ish in Oblivion I constantly found myself wanting to do a quest, but I knew that the reward would be massive compared to what I get right now if I do the quest in the 20+ levels. A solution to this problem could be that once you get your freedom to explore Skyrim (kinda like leaving the sewers in Oblivion) instead of just having the main quest in your quest tab, you could have multiple quests in your quest tab that are best done in low levels. Completing these quests could assist you in early leveling so you can do other quests with nice rewards without worrying that the reward will be ridiculously better later on.

Oblivion's level-scaling is now fixed, and it has been confirmed.

Btw, I hated it to... having to wait to do quests I knew I would get good rewards for, but only at higher levels. For instance, almost ALL the DB quests had nice rewards, but I had to wait to do them, 'cause of this fudge. Darn! ...and I have the Xbox version and cannot mod it out of the game! ...darn!

as many bad aspects to the leveling system, being able to do all the quests without being restricted to being told when you can or cannot play a quest was not one of them. so yea, I disagree with the OP

they have confirmed that they have made changes to attempt to fix the level scaling, whethor or not the fix actually fixes the problem will be confirmed or denied when the game comes out. the devs can be as optimistic as they want, but remember, they were just as eager and sure about level scaling when they put it into OB.

This was annoying, especially if you picked poor majors and it becomes very difficult to level past late teens early 20's. I would have loved some more leveling tutorials. I didn't really get it and my first playthrought wasn't amazing fun. I finshed it as a level 6 with every fight being easy due to the scaling.

Leveled loot is that one thing that really, really has to be removed from the game.
The only other solution is that the item levels with you after you found it.

Omg I know this was horrible in OB. I'd put off so many quests just because I wasnt level 20. This was before I found a mod to fix this, but it was still pretty horrible :x

Im glad they have it fixed though is what I heard? FO3 didnt do this right, so we should be OK.

The leveled quest rewards where awful, but I am not worried. They fixed the problem with Fallout3 and I don't think they will go back to a broken system.

Perhaps it's because I never studied any guides or anything, but I never noticed the leveled loot. (But, like I said - didn't look up charts, so I have no idea which items are leveled and no idea how they improve by level. So, no.... I never had the thought "I have to hold off on this quest, to get +5 more damage reflect")

And really there were far more unique items than one character could use anyway.
Never bothered me either.

They aren't gonna make every quest item scale with you ever levelup. Highly doubt it.

The fact they implemented the "scaling reward" is better than if they had not implemented it.

It's to "fix" the problem of higher level person not wanting to do a quest because the reard is 100% trash to them. So they "fixed" it.

You are kind of complaining that the firemen putting out your house fire are getting your house wet in the process. Yep. Cause water works.

Quests should vary in difficulty, rewards should vary accordingly.

Fallout 3 did it better but Fallout 3 had fewer good items, it also used the lack of repair parts and ammo as a way to reduce usability of high level items. You could get sniper rifles early but not much ammo. This don't work in Skyrim.

If quests don't scale like in Morrowind I hope they have a warning in your journal along the lines of "Warning: you will get your a** handed to you!" like how in morrowind there was a quest to save a guy's wife from cultists. I was all "No problem bro I got this!", then I went inside and got two shot by a guy wearing ebony armor. I then move the difficulty slider all the way toward easy, which results in me being three shot this time. After a few more attempts I gave up and walked out. The guy looks at me like "Did you save my wife?" and I'm like "Dude, F**K your wife!".

Quests should vary in difficulty and with loot that matches it.

(Do anyone know who's idea in Bethesda was it to have levelled loot in Oblivion? Because I have some unkind words to say to that person.)

Anyway, bygones.

There should always be easy quests and hard quests. And if we want to get the best loot early by going on suicidal missions, that is our choice. Don't tell me "you are level 4, you are only allowed to get crap loot even if you explored every cave in the continent."

You know what they should have done for Oblivion? Instead of a difficulty slider that adjusts damage and health of enemies, have a difficulty slider that adjust the level scale. I would have been happy to turn that up to max and go chip a powerful monster slowly to death for rewarding loot.
