Composer and Soundtrack

Examples of other work they've done, I'm sure they're all variable enough to fit The Elderscrolls "Mood"

I know I know, John Williams is the best, and he's all but retired. The man's 78, so let's just assume unless someone at Bethesda is very good friends with him there's no chance.

Jeremy Soule(Morrowind and Oblivioon)

Definitely, he knows what he's doing.

Maybe if Jeremy and Inon worked together...

You guys are kidding me right? Guys a hack, the only good thing he's ever produced is Morrowinds theme. Go play Mass Effect, or Windwaker, or Halo, or Diablo 1/2, or Starcraft- or just any video game with actual music and you'll hear the difference. Ugh

Morrowind and Oblivion have my favorite soundtracks of all games. Don't try to reason with an Elder Scrolls fanatic. You'll fail. :P

Seriously, though, what are you talking about?

If Soule could do the Morrowind soundtrack then he is good for me. That one was wonderful.

Without even reading anyone else's reply, I am pretty sure that Jeremy Soule has already been mentioned more than once. I think he does a fantastic job of capturing the mood and essence of The Elder Scrolls. I hope he returns to compose the next soundtrack.

Jeremy Soule(Morrowind and Oblivioon)

The guy that has made those great tones can make great tones for the next TES.

Edit: You can make the last choice as "Soule" and add another choice for "Some other" after that.

All of those current "Some Others" are "Soule".

I find it odd that a poll about The Elder Scrolls soundtrack lack both Eric Heberling and Jeremy Soule, considering they composed and defined The Elder Scrolls soundtrack as we know it.

The only composer in the poll that I care about is Jack Wall, but I can't say I'm sure he would make a good TES soundtrack.

What happened to Eric, anyway? Daggerfall is 14 years old, so is he retired or has he actually composed anything recently?

http://heberlingmusic.com/. I wish he made the music for the newer TES games, instead of the Soule junk.

Junk? I guess you agree with the OP.

Soule's stuff is great, as Morrowind was definately my favorite soundtrack.

If not Soule, then I'd choose Marty O’Donnell, guy who made the ODST soundtrack. Brilliant stuff.

I'm no fan of Soule, no, I find his music to be rather bland and even made me compose a few explore songs myself for MW that I felt suited the game better :P

But that said, I still think it is very odd he's not in the poll.

Well, anyone can have their opinions and tastes.

But personally I think that some of Morrowind's sound tracks are the best sound tracks ever made, and the others and Oblivion's tracks come close, at least they perfectly fit with the TES games and their atmospheres.

I'd totally go for a composer like Brian Tyler. The man has made some fantastic soundtracks (Children of Dune and the horrible Dragonball movie), and I encourage anyone who likes their music powerful and epic to check out this clip where Brian Tyler himself conducts the recording:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1eHIDkwTNt4

Seriously, watch it and tell me how this could NOT fit with epic games such as Elder Scrolls!

I want Soule back. His 'bland' - as Freddo put it - soundtracks are kind to the ears and don't distract from the games themselves, while still being atmospheric enough to be noticeable and significantly add to the feel of the games.

I find some of the comments about Soule's music pretty harsh, but each to their own. I think he's a quite gifted composer and his music fits The Elder Scrolls world perfectly. He would be my first choice for TES:V.

My main other choices would be http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfdlitMBx5I&feature=related and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBkRrXK147g who both worked on the World of Warcraft soundtrack.

Jeremy Soule is a fine composer, and I think a series like the Elder Scrolls should, for the most part, have a relaxing soundtrack. I don't want to be listening to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GveEyLweZig while I'm taking a pleasant stroll through the countryside.

I would just like more variety of music, maybe some http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKnZgDyS38g&feature=related music in the livelier areas of a big city, or on a festival day.

Other stuff...it's 4 in the morning and I don't feel like trolling youtube for music.

Of the named composers that you mentioned, I think that Howard Shore could do the best job...as long as he doesn't use that damned Bulgarian State Television Female Vocal Choir... I can't stand them.

I'd prefer Jeremy Soule, but I wouldn't mind having Hans Zimmer do something a la Gladiator

But seriously, I'd be very happy if Jeremy Soule returned and I think Inon Zur proved himself with the Dragon Age OST. I think Joe Hisaishi would also be excellent, but Bethesda could never afford him.
