Computer locking up during play.

To whoever is reading this:
I have a decent laptop with a 2.2 ghz quad core processor, 8gb of ram and a 1gb Radeon HD 7690m XT graphics card. Whenever I am playing Crysis 2 single player for about half an hour or less on very high settings (medium) my computer completely locks up with what i have showing on my screen. My fan is still running but the rest of the computer is completely frozen which forces me to do a hard restart. I have formatted my hard drive and brought my computer back to factory settings, re installed the game numerous times and updated my graphics drivers but still no luck. Any help?

Does the screen go black? Do the GPU fans suddenly accelerate? Or do you get a BSOD? Or perhaps the game stays frozen, but is still displayed on the screen?
