Computer Troubles

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 3:52 pm

Don't know what happened, but Microsoft released and update recently that my computer downloaded. It installed it fine and shut down like normal so I thought nothing of it. However when I boot the computer back up it sits at configuring windows up 0%. Tried to override this by booting the computer up then shutting it down before it had time to realize there was an update. Sadly that seemed like a sad attempt at a fix and didn't work.

Did some searching online and it didn't really yield any clues to a solution. Only solution I did find involved using an OS restore disc and unfortunately I don't have one. Any ideas as to how I can fix this problem? Running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

Boot into safe mode (tap F8 after BIOS, but before you see the Windows logo) -- System restore to before the update

I've actually seen this problem quite a bit at work. System Restore never worked when we tried it; it would idle and we'd get no HD activity. May work in this case, so it's worth a shot. Other than that, all I can think of would be using the recovery discs you don't have...

I don't know nearly as much as DEFRON, so he can correct me.

I always roll back two or three System Restores ago, usually works. Rolling back a single restore has never worked for me (which is funny, as you'd expect that one to work, given Windows Update created it...). Of course it doesn't always work, but you only waste a little time trying
