Concerned that I have a virus

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 8:45 am

So, as the title says, I'm concerned that my computer has a virus. I'm currently running Norton 360, the thing is, I'm not sure if I had/have one or not. The problem is my computer is suddenly acting up. Are there any other scanners I can use along with Norton?

Thanks.

First off, there are much better choices out there other than Norton. Second off, I suggest running a full scan of Malware Bytes. Good luck to you

Acting up how? I just did a pc tune up on mine, as it was acting up yesterday, internet was having fits and what not. But it wasn't a virus, just fragmented disc, and other errors. Have you done a full scan?

EDIT: ninja'ed.

I see that you're paying for Antivirus protection, Microsoft Security Essentials is a great free alternative. And common sense is a good rule of thumb. Avoid questionable websites.

But if you avoid questionable websites, how will you find all the amazing glory the Interwebz have to offer? =P

With my anti-virus, yes.

We all slip up every now and then. :P

Basically my problems began earlier today, when FireFox began locking up for a few moments and not displaying information correctly. I thought nothing of it and ran a full system scan.

Now when I get back World of Warcraft can't connect to it's log-in server, as well the game loads the UI but the game world is solid black.

The reason I am concerned of a virus is that I inadvertently visited such a questionable site earlier today. Thus my concern.

Granted, the two issues are probably unrelated, but it never hurts to double check now does it? The red flag in this situation is that nothing should have changed between when I first got on earlier until now. Yet something has.

I use AVG, and it has always let me know when a page is unsafe. And not just from questionable sites. :whistling:

I suggest running http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Malwarebytes-AntiMalware/1186760019/1 ASAP.

Just downloaded it. I tried to get it off the first link from Google but they still haven't emailed me the file. I do hope that was a legitimate site.

Still at 0 infected thus far. Looking good... I hope...

It's legit. Malwarebytes comes in both free and pro versions.

Excellent.

Well, Malware Bytes didn't pick up on anything, I'll run a full scan with it though.
