Concerning Lucian Luchance

Post » Sat Mar 20, 2010 4:33 am

When playing through the Dark Brotherhood quest line did anyone else, when it came to catching the traitor, do pretty much everything they could to save Lucien Luchance? I mean, I know it can't be done but, Who else tried it?

There is nothing you can do, even in a role-playing world. The questline is a very linear one

Oh boy, still feel bad remembering when he says to go meet him in the cottage, walk in and see... him.

Just kill him in the first meeting and he will die like a warrior...

In the quest-line itself there is nothing that can be done for him, sadly. He was one of my favorites. But as Iron Bible described above, it is true that until you complete his first task; Lucien Lechance is not an essential character. Meaning after your first encounter, for the time before he disappears, you may kill him. However, this permanently disables you from going forward in the Dark Brotherhood questline.

He's one of the only NPCs in the game that is worth going out of your way to save. It svcks that he dies. Sooo... Yay for mods!

Actually, I prefer to save the "traitor" in the brotherhood whose mother was slain by Lucian. I'm with justice :hubbahubba:

That is a possibility, but I think the quest line is just too awesome for that and not only is the ending really sad, it was still a good ending (even though I cried a little).
Not to mention, Lucien Luchance is one of the most charismatic characters from any video game I've played, I couldn't bring myself to kill him.

Indeed. He shall be missed.

However, on several playthroughs in which I wasn't an assassin character; I did kill him. :P

The first time I did this quest line, I too, was sad. I furiously smote his enemies. Some of my characters just join the guild , and never advance it any further than joining, just so I can purchase a new set of enchanted arrows every three days or so.

I use this concept alot. I think there are far better places to 'rest' most questlines than at their completion. For the MG and FG, I find this is before losing too many guild mates and innocent people (eg: Burma MG guild, Waters Edge for FG).

I believe there are several such choosing points along the Main Quest.

Although I have zero sympathy for LL or his heartless cronies, if doing the DB questline, it certainly makes more sense to stop progressing before the purification (unless of course you are just trying to infiltrate and destoy a nest of psychopaths anyway).

I find it is really only the TG that reaches a satisfying conclusion - it is a love story, after all. ^_^

LL would have expected his slayers to behave exactly the way they did. He failed, so he should die. You are the one who succeeds, not him.

However, I am surprised that he didn't take any of Arquen's group with him. Maybe he saw his own failure and gave up at that point.

That's not a bad idea, I would get the DB quests without the super sad ending.

Don't see that. In my game there is a super happy wonderful ending!

The only thing that would make it better is if you could side with the traitor!

Why would you want to side with the traitor? He's bad and he got LL killed.

No he's good because he wants to destroy the Brotherhood. And because he got LL killed - LL is one of the most annoying characters in the game. he is completely incompetent, and is standing in the way of my character's advancement.

An even bigger regret is that my character couldn't kill Lucien personally in the questline. You should have that option I think. You should be approached by the others, notified of Lucien's death sentence, and be allowed to carry it out. Then side with the Traitor. That would have been great!!

As much as I disagree with your opinions of LL, being given the option to kill him and/or side with the traitor would actually be pretty great, if not only for the sake of having options.

I don't like the Dark Brotherhood. I'm still bitter about them trying to kill my characters in Morrowind. I would much rather stab them than save them. That includes the traitor too, what a nutcase.

Maybe I rushed my way through the DB questline, but I really didn't feel like there was very much interaction with Lucian Luchance, so I didn't really have much of a personal attachment to him. As for him being one of the more charismatic characters in any game, I clearly didn't feel that way.

Don't get me wrong, I was taken back a little when I saw what they did to him, but like I said before, there really wasn't much of a relationship there to make me feel bad for him. I mean, I think you only talk to him 3 or 4 times throughout the game.

Yeah, but the 3 or 4 times you talk to him are some of the best moments in the game in my opinion. Apart from Martin and Uriel Septim VII or whatever it was, he is one of the only characters to get a unique voice and everything about him, from his silky-smooth charismatic voice to his lines about rumors make him the best NPC in the game, IMO.

Exactly, they're good moments. When he accused me of being the traitor, I was shock and my heart started pounding, I felt guilt and remorse for having unknowingly betrayed the Brotherhood. (...Or maybe I just got into the game more than most people...)
