Concerning Redguards

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 2:27 pm

Will the black people of Nirn still be orange? Even the ones who aren't orange are still so high yellow they just look like a really tan white person. Why can't we have some brother looking like Wesley Snipes?

Redguard is a version of Ra'Gada, or Warrior Wave, the first Yokudans to arrive in Tamriel, and not a reference to colour.

They've stated that they're putting effort into having better looking, more visually distinct races.

So, yes, probably. The weird skin tint in Oblivion was not intentional I'm sure.

Yes it is; just because they made an in game excuse doesnt mean anything. Besides, the reference to red was a joke by the other poster.

Sorry dude, but yeah it does mean something. If they retrospectively add a detail to lore, then it becomes canon, and you can't do anything about it. For example, in Oblivion you can't use levitate spells because the game world doesn't occupy the same space as the city interiors. If you levitate over the walls of a city, you'd be in an empty version of the city. So, they made up a bit of NPC dialogue that states that the Empire outlawed levitation spells.

And I'm also pretty sure that "redguard" was never a reference to the color of the character's skin, so it's not even an example of retroactive changes.

Wesley Snipes? If redguards are suposed to be black, then I suppose they should look more like african guys (with a skin waaaay darker than Wesley snipes).

Ironically, you don't seem to even know what ignorance means. What he did was in no way indicative that he lacks any particular knowledge, therefore what he said is not "ignorant".

Ignorance means "The state of not knowing". For example, you are obviously "ignorant" of the meaning of the word "ignorant".

I don't really care where they are on the colour continuum, as long as they lose those hilarious green lips.

Hmmm... I think his hair is blond, also if you look at his hand it looks white. Sort of hard to tell with the lighting but I'd guess he's a nord.

I suppose you're right. Now I realise that the man in front of him have the same tone, so it must be the lighting.

I had to download a bunch of mods to make my Oblivion Redguard character look not yellow/green/bruise purple. The vanilla skintones were truly awful. It can't be that hard to make a brown skin tone, can it? (Although, none of the skin tones were fantastic looking . . . maybe it just seemed that way from the puffy-faces?)

He looks black to me; and maybe the guy at the bar, too. I'll be happy if that's the skintone.

Ah, didn't catch that. I'm so used to people using "ignorant" as a synonym for "racist" and "stupid" that I didn't pick it up.

And I never paid much attention to Michael Jackson, so while I am aware of his use of the word like that, I didn't key in on it. My mistake.

Redguards aren't "black." They aren't even homo sapiens. They're from a planet called Nirn that is not, in any way, shape or form, Earth, and is not populated by homo sapiens.

Their resemblance to the subcategory of homo sapiens colloquially known as "blacks" is, in my opinion, unfortunate, since it forces an association with those "blacks" and thus invites all of the racial idiocy of which I am so incredibly tired.

Witness, for instance, this thread.....

That guy looks like a nord, whose skin looks darker due to shadows. Heck, looking at his hands, they appear to be white (or somewhat tanned) than brown.

Also, redguards in every iteration, save for OB, have been shades of dark brown. Personally, I prefer the darker skin from Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, and Redguard, and not the reddish orange yellow skin with green lips from Oblivion
