conecting the old to the new

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 9:24 am

ok Im just wondering but between fallout 1, 2, 3 and NV what ties the 4 together.
from what I gather in fallout 2 your the guy from fallout 1s grand kid. in fallout 3 the enclave from the west have retreated and have started taking back the capital + Harold has romed threw all 3 and sadly turned into a tree (making it so there is no enclave or Harold to connect 4)
to connect NV with 3 we find out ed-e came from Adams Air Force Base

is that all that connects the series or have I missed somthing

(also what do you think ill connect fallout 3 to 4)

FO3's connections were a bit stretched, but they are connections...

The BoS, Enclave, and the Vaults are piss poor connections to Fallout 1 and 2. They're pretty much generic universe items now.

Harold makes absolutely no mention of California in Fallout 3. They [censored] up Harold pretty bad. I was super pissed when I found him in Oasis.

No, that's bethesda and their attempt and linking whatever possible to fallout.

So far, they linked two things.

FO3 didn't have a ton of stuff from FO1&2, nor should it have, because they're set on opposite sides of the country.

That said, you've got the BoS, the Enclave, FEV/muties (even if they are different) and Harold, off the top of my head.

Not much connects the game besides the Fallout brand and the "Three."

You have two factions that were on their deathbeds in Fallout 1 and 2, that somehow got amazing numbers and strength, and you have Harold.

I still wish New Vegas had been named 'Fallout 4'. It's too good a game to be sidelined, don't you think?

Fallout 2 's connection to Fallout 1 is that you were the grandchild of the Vault Dweller, that Shady Sands has turned into a prosperous town, the capitol of NCR, Marcus who is a remnant from the Unity, Vault 13 and 15, the Khans, Harold shows up again, Fallout takes place in parts of Fallout 1's world map, though more north and east (which puts Shady Sands, that was up north in Fallout 1, down south in Fallout 2), and the BoS although they were pretty much underground in Fallout 2. That's from the top of my head.

Fallout 3's connection to Fallout 2 is... BoS from Fallout 1/2 shows up in DC and changes their agenda to be much nicer, Enclave from Fallout 2 (who supposedly were dead) shows up in a huge force, also in DC, and has changed their agenda slightly, and a super mutant army created from FEV also shows up in DC (three huge factions that all were pretty much dead by Fallout 2 shows up in the same city at the same time, what are the odds?), though you're apparently not dipped in it anymore, and it makes you dumb and yellow and grow huge with time, but it's a different strain so... And Harold, who is a tree now. And... I guess the Vaults, although their layout was changed just like the weapons and vault suits and power armor and things like that, to be more appealing.

Fallout New Vegas connection to Fallout 3 is... just... ED-E I think. Fallout New Vegas has loads more connection with Fallout 1 and 2 though, like Enclave remnants from Navarro, the BoS with their real agenda, the NCR. Aswell as stuff from Van Buren, the Black Isle's "Fallout 3", like Caesar's Legion, Powder Gangers, southern Nevada... Also, Las Vegas mentioned in Fallout 1 I think, but the story about it was different, no mention of House's defence system but that the casino owners bribed the russians (?) so they wouldn't nuke the city, or how was it?

"While on patrol" Let's see, from 2240's to 2277 there is Lyons Chapter from the West coast. The Super Mutants of course were taking people to Vault 87 for 200 years, and exposing them to the FEV, thus making more Super Mutants. That weird tree thing i heard about in Oasis, Harold i heard it called. The Enclave, though there were some stationed at Adams and Raven rock, there was not enough to explain their numbers.
As for the Four years since then, i doubt there would have been much that would have made it out there in four years in the terms of large parties, but scattered reports of a Eyebot called ED-E did, and that Moira Brown's Book, The Wasteland Survival Guide, was also found in the Mojave as well. If i get anything more, i will mention them.

Indeed, but then Bethesda's contract would run out their next game. (I would say how, but can't talk about it.)

Ehhh.... can't talk about it. Look around the web, you'll learn what Boradom is referring to.

On a totally unrelated topic, I rent a house. I can do what I want with it, but some day the lease will run out.

i've read up on it and they do own the franchise outright. but it doens't matter anyway, because bethesda can make their own franchise and make their own brand of post apocalyptic games, but i doubt thats gonna be necessary since they already own the entire franchise.

Frankly, I was under the understanding that they didn't want too much connecting Fallout 3 to the previous games. Making the move all the way to the other side of the country, and then advancing the timeline, etc - I always saw that as a purposeful attempt on Bethesda's part to remain separate from the rest of the series. I have a feeling they were more interested in working on an engaging IP than trying to be seen as following in the previous titles' footsteps. (ie, they wanted to make a game in their vision of the Fallout universe, but also wanted the freedom to take things in the direction they wanted to.)

It's likely also a very fine line. And we see that within these forums, as well. There are those who feel there wasn't enough new concepts in Fallout 3 (what with bringing the "Big Three" over to the other coast.) And on the other hand, if they didn't bring in enough references, characters, and factions from the previous titles - you'd have those who would be wondering why they'd bought the Fallout IP at all, if there wasn't going to be "anything" in common with the older games.

If a game is called "Fallout 3," I think it's to be expected that it should have some things in common with F1 and F2.

And for the record, those hardly count.

(Edit: in reponse to nu_clear_day) That's how i see it too. It's supposed to be "Fallout" but not too much so. To have a clear division between Bethesda's Fallout and the classics.

but it doens't matter anyway, because bethesda can make their own franchise and make their own brand of post apocalyptic games...

Wouldn't all of use be happy if Bethesda relinguished Fallout license and made "The Post-apocalyptic Holotapes" franchise instead ? :P
