Confirmation on Werewolves

Post » Mon May 02, 2011 7:21 pm

Why won't the development team confirm if werewolves are in this game? And why were they left out of Oblivion?

For some reason, I have the feeling they will be left out (again). :(

They won't confirm because it's likely either Work in Progress or they're trying to see if it works in the first place.

As to how they weren't in Oblivion, your guess is as good as mine.

They are not going to confirm them because they may end up getting cut. If I recall they are experimenting with all that and trying to make it work. If they feel it is not good enough or if they feel there is another feature to better spend dev time it won't make it.

Ninja-ality! :ninja:

In the podcast interview with Todd Howard he said that they were playing with the idea of warewolfs but that they aren't confirming if they will be in the game.

Could people stop posting threads with misleading titles presenting questions as facts? :P

Edit: Well actually this thread isn't the worst example of that. Anyway I believe they said that if werewolves don't make it into the main game, there's a good possibility they'll be added in a DLC.

If the podcast in question is anything to go by, then it sounds like werewolves have not been confirmed because Bethesda wasn't sure if they'd be in the game yet. However, that may have changed since the podcast was released, perhaps Bethesda has implemented thm, or has decided not to do them, we can only wait and see. Perhaps in time, Bethesda will give us a definitive answer, but for now, we can only wait.

As to why they weren't in Oblivion, I'd assume it's because Bethesda decided they'd rather put their focus on other things. We must keep in mind here that Morrowind didn't get werewolves until an expansion, where they were a central aspect of said expansion, so it's no surprise Bethesda decided not to do them in the next game. Now, I'd have liked to see werewolves in Oblivion, I'd actually take them over vampires any day if we had to choose between them, but I don't really go into each game thinking "This game must have werewolves or I'll be dissappointed.", not unless werewolves are promised but not delivered, sometimes I might think "You know, it would be nice to see werewolves in this game." more often, though, it's "There's werewolves in this game? That's cool, I wonder if I can become one?" I'd also like to see werewolves in Skyrim, but they're the kind of thing that would be nice to have but i wouldn't really call it a major dissappointment if we did not see them.

Yes, I remember this as well. Todd was comparing the idea to that of a Bloodmoon-esque DLC.

Could people PLEASE stop making threads that sound like they are announcing fantastic official info, and end up only just asking about if it will come?

It's the biggest buzzkill.

Is there a petition I can sign?

I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants their character to transform into a werewolf ;)

Just the mere fact that with less than a year to go, and they're still not sure if they are going to implement wear-creatures and/or vampires, is very disheartening because that means they probably won't have their own clans/quests.

Looking back at the lore on Vampires we can expect to see to see them at least. Though there wasn't any indications thatthose Vampires were product of any kind of curse or disease. Also I didn't get the impression that those Vampires were anything but creatures that live beneath the ice.

So, if Vampires are implemented I don't think there can be much to be expected from them.

Were-creatures, on the other hand, are a whole other kettle of fish.

Read http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:On_Lycanthropy for information. In the entire Lycanthropy book << there were many references of Skyrim being involved with lycanthropes, and absolutely no mention of Cyrodiil. So Lore-Wise, OB wouldn't have any lycanthropes because they don't realistically fit. Skyrim on the other hand, Lore-wise it definitely should have lycanthropes of some kind. I trust Btehesda on this, as with everthing else. They make great games, You should stop complaining about things that you have no Idea about. Also, Todd said (in the GI podcast) that in Bethesda they are experimenting with them, meaning that, yes, they are trying to put them in.

In my opinion the Deadra Lord Hircine and his Werewolves deserve their own expansion pack so it can be done properly with more focus put on them. I just have a feeling Hircines return would be a-bit overshadowed by the dragons ;).

There are loads of great Werewolf mods for Oblivion.. you can even infect NPC's in some of them if you are a werewolf! Also a werewolf village in the mountains mod too. No worries if it aint included by Beth.... Unless you don't own a PC and are stuck playing Skyrim on an Xbox.

I just have to get something off my chest here.
The greatest (and possibly the only) werewolf gameplay i have ever seen in any game is the one featured in Morrowind's Bloodmoon expansion. I would love to see that again.

I personally believe in Bethesda Game Studios on this matter and the fact that they should be able to do on their new Creation Engine what they were able to do multiple years ago on the Gamebryo Engine. We know they are trying, and we know that if they fail they wont give us a bad feature, they'll just remove it.

They need to decide if they want to put it in the vanilla game or cash in with a Werewolf themed expansion or something.

i understand why they would add vampires, they look exactly like humans but pale skin, but a werewolve conversion would be too complicated.

Transformations (IE werewolves and vampires) are currently undergoing testing. We will see if BGS feels they can create a viable and quality experience that is worthy of being in the final build of the game before release.

1. I guess a majority of Skyrim players (console players) don't really benefit from a mod, then, do they?
2. What about those playing Skyrim on a PS3?
3? "Stuck"?
