Confirmed Voice Talent?

Post » Fri Jul 01, 2011 7:55 pm

Perhaps, although the poster "Gregasaurus" seemed very sure of himself with regards to various voice actors that could be heard voicing various races in the demo. You have a good point however with regards to the fact that Jeff Baker voiced the Dunmer in the Oblivion E3 demo, and then was nowhere to be seen in the final version of the game.

Incidentally, does anyone know why he was in the E3 demo and why they decided to drop him? Why did the Dunmer have their classic gravely brogue in the demo but not in the final verison of the game?

Imagine that voice. "Hear that? They're coming for you! He he he ha ha ha"

I hope Wes Johnson is one of the voice actors.

Steve Blum will probably show up somewhere. He always does.

Or Dee Bradley Baker. :P

People have confirmed that they could hear the old Morrowind Dunmer voice under all the noise in the G4 E3 demo. I could barely make it out myself but my hearing svcks. As for Michael Mack and Linda Canyon? Watch Gamespot's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5uNlJAgIO4 of the demo. You can hear a Redguard man and a Dunmer woman talking about Arvel the Swift. Their voices are clear as day. Those two have been voicing TES for eight years. (Thirteen years for Michael Mack, actually.) It's not at all unreasonable to assume that they're back.

That seems clear enough to me. I'll leave the OP the way it is, although it is of course possible that things might change in the final game. Do you know which video Jeff Baker's Imperial can be heard in?

Besides Sydow the only VA that I know is possibly confirmed is the Female Elf VA from Oblivion. I didn't recognize any other voices but then again I can't hear it clearly because of doppy interviewers talking over the game.

I do hope that Mack is coming back I loved his voice over for the Male Redguards.

Does anyone else find it a bit weird that only Von Sydow has been announced as apperaing in the game when there's only, what- about four and a half months left until release? Did we know about any voice actors other than Patrick Stewart four months before Oblivion was released?

It may be wrong, but I heard that they lost the files to corruption or something like that, and they didn't have time to remedy it before release.

Again, its just what I heard.

If that's true then that's quite an amazing thing to happpen to a multi-million dollar project. You'd think that they'd have a whole bunch of back-up files or something!

Well, there are what, 70+ voice actors? That's because they didn't have to pay big names like Stewart and Bean. Von Sydow is probably the only star in the lot this go around.

If Von Sydow is the only well-known name in the game then that would indeed explain why others have not been announced.

I think Beth is waiting for the right time. My prediction, two more big names but not as big of a name as Von Sydow and a whole bunch of talented VA's.

I believe it's the same reason why there were a small number of voice actors: disc space. They were thinking of making many more type of voices (the beggars and a certain priest with a different voice are proof of that), but they scrapped it because of the massive disc space required (the main problem was the Rumors option, which was randomized). In the end, they made it so different races could share the same voice set (for rumors, combat taunts, and random dialogue).

That would make sense. The voice file for Oblivion is massive (bigger than Fallout 3's which contains more voice acting, by the way).

I'd say that there's a good chance that Jeff Baker will be in. Another candidate for the dumner voice would be Mike Rosson (most of the male ghouls in Fallout 3). Craig Sechler (elves in Oblivion) showed in Fallout 3: Operation Anchorage that he could do a deep gravely voice too.

And I definitely heard Michael Mack in that conversation.

You'd be surprised. There's a sci-fi series called Babylon 5. When they filmed it they filmed it in HD but when they did the special effects they generated them for SD resolutions. They planned to re-render the stuff eventually for an HD release down the line.

What happened though? They LOST the computer assets for the special effects, so they have HD film and they'd have to redo all the special effects from scratch if they ever wanted to release the series in high definition.

I'm really hoping they have more actors to play characters. Clones talking to each other about how they bought a book from the same clone owned store was a tad jarring.

Are you saying that there were more unique, individual lines of dialogue in Fallout 3, but more actual voice data on the Oblivion disk due to the fact that different races repeated the same lines as one another? I wonder if we're still going to hear Redguards and Bretons and Imperials and Khajiits, all saying the exact same lines as one another?

Ha- I used to watch Babylon 5 here in the UK. An HD release would be rad- shame it doesn't sound likely!

Meh.

I would prefer no voice acting and tons of dialogue.

Max Von Snydow is fricking aazing though. But if were gonig to have dialogue though, lets have less celebrities and more uncostly unknown people.

I would hate no dialogue and have to read loads of text.... It was for me the biggest problem with Morrowind

I meant that there was more voice data in Fallout but the Oblivion file was bigger. As Todd Howard said previously, they've got access to better file compression techniques.

I can't hear Michael Mack and Linda Canyon there. Honestly, they sound more like Michael Ironside and Bari Biern (SI's Golden Saints).

Not to say I don't want them to return. Michael Mack and Jonathan Bryce have been around since Redguard, voicing Redguards and Argonians/Khajiits respectively, and I really want those voices to come back. There's just no clear proof of them being involved yet.

You're really not listening very closely then. That's Cyrus talking (both of them), and Owyn, and all the other Redguards in existence for the past thirteen years. And that's definitely the voice of every female elf in Oblivion chatting with him.

Can someone please send me a link to the gameplay video without background noise please? I want to hear these voices for myself.

I've listened several times, and I've tried to make myself hear Michael Mack and Linda Canyon. I'm sorry, but I don't hear what you hear.

You could be right and it is them, but I don't hear it. The fact is that it's not so clear cut, and there is no confirmation.
