Confused about in-game DarnUI settings page

Post » Sat Jul 17, 2010 10:23 am

I keep setting things like don't show messages/locations, don't show essential crown, etc, but I see this page is not persistant.

I didn't notice an ini file for this mod in data\ini or data.

I left a PM to Darn about 4 days ago but just can't go any longer with this annoyance.

Is this another case of having to delve into xml files that I know nothing about?

Ya look in 'data\menus\prefabs\darn' which is confuzzling to find. I wish that mod would get an update so changing stuff in game would be saved. I have as of yet to figure where the xml file is that has the setting for the 3rd person cross hair... Oo

You could also try having a look at Darn's own http://darnified.net/forums/index.php. He drops in here every once in a while, but he may visit his own forums a little more often. There is also a lot of information about customiziing Darn UI in his forums. I think you have to join, but it's not a big deal.

You need to edit hudmainmenu_config.xml in /Data/Menus/prefabs/darn. All the settings from the in-game menu are there to customize. Just don't forget to copy down the setting changes you make in-game.

(And the 3rd person crosshair is right at the beginning)

<!-- Crosshair (def. 1,0) -->	<_chvisible> 1 	<_ch3rdperson> 0

Something this seemingly popular should be more user-friendly. I would never have guessed what that line is for.

It's not that hard really, but I agree that it should save the settings in game which should be possible with OBSE.

I signed up and PM'd him for more average-joe user-friendliness.

That page in the game really serves no purpose then.

It is hard to guess, but quite easy to see if you read the readme.

Seriously, you have started several threads asking about things that you would have learned by reading the readme's of the mods you install. So start doing that before complaining, the readme's are there for a reason.

I read all readme's. Understanding what they say is completely different matter.
DarnUI has nothing about customizing easily the UI after the omod install. There is nothing in the omod install that I came across that has these settings.
I had to spend several days just to try and understand how to use the mod installers.
There seems to be a lack of respect to new average-joe's here that don't have the programming mind-set.
You seem to think it is nothing to keep track of every single word across every single readme.

Being an "average joe" doesn't mean you can't learn.

The in-game menu's purpose is to allow you to figure out what settings you want to permanently set, and what to set them to. Otherwise you would be opening an XML file and randomly altering meaningless (without context) numbers and options.

Edit: I'm also not particularly sure what part of "All config files are in "Data\menus\prefabs\darn". The in game settings are in hudmainmenu_config.xml, and the name of the setting to adjust is displayed in parenthesis at the end of the help text when hovering the setting in game" requires a "programming mindset" to follow.

I think respect is a two-way street. Newcomers who show respect gets lot of help and respect, even if their question seem stupid. But saying things like

...just because you haven't found how extremely useful the settings page is for customizing your MMI, is to show lack of respect for Darn's countless hours of work.

We are saying that you are not reading readme judging by the posts, because most of the stuff posted is in the readme's if you make a omod get a version with a omod config file or already converted and most of them have descriptions like Nice One's EE omod install that I use with full description
