I'm confused about the perkleveling system.

As I understand it you get one point per level to be used on which ever perk you want, if it is available in correlation with your S.P.E.C.I.A.L.

My question is. Can you instead use your earned point on your S.P.E.C.I.A.L. itself? Like increasing your Strength level instead of purchasing a perk.

Oh good. That means we are not locked into a certain perk combo in the beginning.

The wording of your question is impossible to understand, but to clarify, you get 21 points to start, and then you distribute them among the several SPECIAL traits. That is what your skeleton is. You have one opportunity leaving vault 111 to change your mind.

There would be no reason for you to be "locked into a perk combo" because the customization opportunities for perks within SPECIAL only reflect your base level of 1-10 per SPECIAL trait. The perk combos are only there to be unlock-able via XP, and by player choice... but governed (initially) by the different levels you assigned to your SPECIAL traits.

Here is the http://orcz.com/Fallout_4:_Perk_Chart

When you level up, you can either spend a point on one of the perks, or you can spend a point on "Strength Training", "Perception Training", etc to raise that stat instead.

Hope that helps clear things up!

Actually you get 28 points to start since you can't start with a SPECIAL at 0.

The OPs question was rather clear to me (and fully answered in 3 letters in the next post).

I'm pretty sure he changed the wording. You're right, it's easy to read now.

Yes that helps a ton. I was worried that my initial S.P.E.C.I.A.L. choice would prevent my from gaining certain perks later on. However since we can train our special instead of purchasing a perk, there is no way were will be locked out of certain perks based on out initial S.P.E.C.I.A..L. choice.

Just keep in mind that there's a lot of speculation in this chart, including perks' names and descriptions.

Yea. I bring this whole thing up because of a twitter exchange between Pete Hines and myself. I'm a little wary of what Pete says and i was still a little confused by what I considered to be a simplistic twitter response. (I understand only so much can be done in 140 characters or less) So i just wanted to come to the forums for clarification.

Actually seeing that the original S.P.E.C.I.A..L. were on the chart helped me a lot.

Glad I'm not the only one pointing out orcz and gk's stuff being speculation. It's painful to see so many people taking it as fact, despite saying speculation. A bunch has already been proven wrong and ammended. Hell, I can guess on stuff too haha I just wouldn't spread that around like I had insider info

Right, so every SPECIAL will have 1 by default. You then get 21 additional points to spread around. So technically he's correct.

No edit note in the OPs post, so I don't think so.

i understood your initial question and the next guy answered it correctly, yes you can spend a perk point on your special stat of your choosing each time you level up instead of having to pick a skill type perk, i would think you can raise each special stat as much as you want if you're willing to spend a perk point on it, in fallout 3 and i think NV you can do 10 all together, it might be unlimited in fallout 4 but i would think at least 10 special training perks which would be more than enough considering there will probably be bobbleheads and even maybe some quests to raise the special stats even more but still its smart to carefully plan your special stats at the beginning to get close to the requirements for your most wanted perks.
