Now, while playing Skyrim, I encountered the term "Jarol Apparatus". What is this used for and how did it come to be? What is the lore behind it?

The supposed experiment mentioned involved magical rift stuff, soul gems, and calipers.

What are the calipers for?

How does it prevent some sort of magical collapse?

And what does swallowing a soul gem have to do with helping prevent some sort of magical breakdown?



Now, while this may be a confusing question, and perhaps one without an answer, but could someone shed light on the functions of a Jarol apparatus at the very least?


And what are some possibilities that it is being used for?
