Im confused, I really want to buy this for Computer but I do

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 9:31 pm

Ive been told if I buy this game on disc I have to buy it on steam to download.. I dont understand this, arn't I buying the game on disc? so why do I have to pay for 2 copys?

Im only on a 20gb connection and a limited budget so I cant really afford to buy a game twice or to download it, it seems illogical.

Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

You dont have to buy it on steam. The game just needs steam for activation. You can still install via the disc.

Ok, so I sign up for steam and download it then install my game from disc? I dont have to actually download the game?

No, you don't have to download.

To be sure it doesn't try to, sign up to and install steam first via their website. Don't do it from the disk yet.

Then once Steam is in and updated, install the game from the disk, it'll ask you to register the cd-key with Steam and assuming you didn't get something wrong will install from the disk.

Some people have found that starting with the disk, installing steam from the disk and then registering the game causes it to start downloading.

edit: You'll still need to download the latest patch for NV but that'll start automatically once the installation is done.

You dont need a constant connection, but Steam will need to reconnect every few days to "make sure you are still legit"...

I couldn't. :ermm:
I had to activate the game through Steam with the disc, after that the disc did nothing else and the game downloaded through Steam.
Disc was basically just like a redeem code.

I feel you man, I'm on a 20GB allocation too. With FNV, Steam will try to redownload the whole game once in a while.. it's irritating but there isn't a version without Steam and sadly since the majority of Steam users have awesome internet plans (apparently), any complaints are likely to be dismissed as "haters gonna hate". For such a good game though it's a price I'm prepared to pay.

I am [fairly] sure that I installed from the disk. I do know that the disk refuses to install with no internet connection; it erroneously cites that the Steam servers are too busy. http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj125/Gizmojunk/Install_loop-1.gif

It does that indefinitely ~until the internet connection is restored.

I never had any problem with internet connection for that day when I tried to install if off the disk.
It was fully linked to Steam and worked fine.
It simply refused to allow me to install it off the disk.
