Congratulations to my fellow Roleplayers and Writers

I'd like to point out that several months ago, we only had one very slow RP going on. As of now, we have at least 4 RP's going, possibly 5 or more. TES V has helped us out, and we have succeeded in bringing this forum back to life, even if it isn't as good as it once was (because everything has its high points).

I know many people have left this place over the past two years I've been here. Many people have chosen to come back, and we have gotten many new faces as well. I'd like to congratulate everybody for not letting this forum basically fall dead, as it appeared it would. I must give the recent TES V news its own thanks too. As more and more TES V stuff comes out, more new people will join up, and maybe some of the older people will come back. I'm glad to say, as of now, that I think this forum is headed in the right direction.

I just came back because I missed some old RPs that died here, and hoped they'd someday come back... Unfortunately, both are still gone.

And it's still much slower than I remember when I joined... two/three years ago? Wow, it's been a long time.

What happened to all the Legends?

I wonder if Illusionary Nothing's guide up there is scaring people away. We don't have the numbers here to justify it anymore, and some sections are so overly critical they chase people away.

Also, it's pretentiously written.

I think that's a little unfair, to be perfectly honest. Illusionary is a damn fine roleplayer, and her sole intent when writing that guide was to help people out. Sure, there are some parts of the guide that I may disagree with, but that's bound to happen as a matter of personal opinion.

All she wanted to do was share her experience with others, and try to help them learn from it. Nothing wrong with that, as far as I'm concerned.

Welcome back.

And yes, it is very unfair. The guide is a good guide. Some part of it can be applied to everyone. It's a major part of what has kept this community where it is, or at least in the ball park.

What I find wrong is the prevalence of her belief that "Anti-munchkining" is the only way to go, and insistance that keeping OOC secrets about IC events is "doing it wrong."

While there are a lot of good, helpful points, the big "Go Away if you want to play a hero" sign posted prominently is irritating and infuriatingly condescending in its assertations about "If you like any Roleplaying Style other than mine, YOU'RE A BAD ROLEPLAYER!"

I'm pretty sure there are a lot of people who'd like to play their heroic characters on this forum, but the love of the Anti-Sue here drives them away and leaves us abandoned.

Right guys, I don't profess to know everything about RPing, but I know enough to bring you this little tidbit of ABSOLUTELY VITAL INFORMATION! It's all the common sense stuff which nobody seems to listen to. So listen up this time, please.

I have to agree with the above and say that while I disagree with some parts, pretentiousness is the last thing I'd accuse IN's guide of. It's like any user-made guide: It's filled with personal opinion but when it comes down to it, the thing is filled with useful info to any new members for what people in the Rp'ing community have come to expect in the RP's here.

I truly find it difficult to believe that the guide is the reason the forums were quiet.

To stay on topic, yes it is nice to see a sudden influx of RP's around here. I haven't been in 3 Rp's simultaneously for many, many months.

Get on topic, or gtfo. That's what I'll say.

How I would've worded it

I make a thread to congratulate the forum, and you immediately start attacking the RPing guide. Get on topic, or get out.

And Blade, you're absolutely right about that. It's been a long time.

Well that's to be expected Scow. There hasn't been a new Elder Scrolls game in a few years, and now that a new one is right around the corner, people are starting to be atracted again.

Compared to how slow these forums were about two months ago, this is a beautiful increase.

I expect that by the end of the year, we will be back to. ROLEPLAYERS OVERWHELMING.... yay.

I agree, I came back to the forums for Oblivion and then left for a while and came back last year, since then ive seen the number of people browsing morrowind general discussion go from 20 something all the way down to 0-3 members at a time.

Absolutely. Back when I joined in '08, I think I was in at one time 4 active Rp's at once. It's clearly not as busy as it used to be, nor do I think it will be for a few more months, but you have to admit, compared to the summer months, it's a freaking zoo in here now.

Activity on these boards does seem to increase quite a bit when a new game comes out. Back before Oblivion came out (God I feel old) the forums were fairly slow as well. In the years following its release, however, activity really soared.

It's only natural. Alot of the material concerning Oblivion has already been covered in both RPs and fanfictions, and people are probably just waiting for an infusion of 'new life' to get things moving again.

Indeed, while the forum isn't where it was in the "Golden Days", we might experience a renaissance soon. Only instead of the plague and Italy starting ours, it'll be a bunch of Nords and dragons  I expect, as we have already speculated, that the number of RPers will continue to rise as we near the Tes V launch, from the number of people looking at release stuff on the forum.

I only caught the tail end of all the "greats" that used to hang out here. I'm just glad I got to see "A New Kind of Warfare" as it was being written, and RP beside Illusionary, FC4, and all of those fine fellows. Perhaps this time around we can all be the "greats" people will remember

So, are all you returners planning on joining any RPs? ;) Might I suggest joining the Great House Hlaalu in Immortal's Circlet Ignited :hehe:

As of now we have:

Circlet Ignited - (Immortal Blood Timeline - hosted by Immortal Blood)

Horror of the North (hosted by JonasVault101)

Life in Tamriel (hosted by Swift Blade)

The Expedition to Saarthal (hosted by Verlox)

The Children's Quest - IBT (Immortal Blood Timeline - hosted by Storyteller)

The Dragon Slayers (hosted by Woolymammoth)

And heck, Solidor was even going to make a RP...but we already have six going on the forum!

I doubt I'd be remembered as a Great... at least as long as we have Illusionary Nothing's http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/StopHavingFunGuys at the top of the forum. I do like finding Roleplaying hosts that understand http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RealityIsUnrealistic is http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AcceptableBreaksFromReality http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RuleOfFun.

Ironically, if I remember, she was just as often amused at my bending and breaking of her rules (Taking out a pack of Corprus Wolves to The Safety Dance) as she was annoyed by my powergaming(Making short work of the next group of Corprus Beasts) and skirt-chasing(Urg, she really had a point there)... sometimes both at once. (Pulling out a ludicrous number of undeclared weapons from Dar'shandi's clothes when stopped for inspection)

I feel Roleplaying with her, though, was the most important step in becoming a better roleplayer. The best way to learn how to play a powerful character without "ubering" is to play with roleplayers mature enough to not flip out over going too far, in an RP robust enough to withstand the trials of powergaming.

I shall always champion the cause of "Let them Kick Ass"

Will you please stop bashing IN's guide, it's well thought out and put together just because you dont like it doesnt mean you have to insult it.

I cannot comply with that, because I see the mindset it has caused as a bane of the RP forum. It makes everyone lazy in socializing the new members by treating the guide as law. It encourages the idea that the Banhammer should be the first and most frequent response to those who demonstrate poor Roleplaying skill, and chases off the new guys, leaving us with fewer people to play with, fewer ideas floating around here, and all around a worse experience.

I think this forum needs to learn to respect the various flavors of roleplay, and acknowledge that everyone was once a MarySue-writing Newb, and instead of ban them from our games (and in the process this forum) for not living up to our standards, we should bear with them until they improve. I've also realized that those who are least tolerant and condescending of the immature roleplayers and the themes they frequently demonstrate aren't as mature as they think they are.

Illusionary Nothing's presence was awesome here, pulling a Jesus and demonstrating the spirit of the guide, not just the letter of it. The way it was written was more tolerable, because there were more RPs that demonstrated all stages of roleplay maturity (Including those that proved what happened when people didn't follow the guide). Now, with our "Exclusive Club", the guide reads like Dogma, with an inquisition of Roleplayers hunting for the first signs of heresy or blasphemy.

...I'll calm down about some of the issues once I've re-established myself in this community. Right now I'm still cleaning out the crap that's accumulated in my absence.

The guide doesnt scare off new people, I read the guide before i started RP'ing here and thought that a few things in it were overkill but for the most part it was a good guide. What it says is that everyone should play on equal levels, it's no fun when you have a walking arsenal come into the scene with super amazing powers while everyone else has mundane but still kick ass characters. For instance my character Rayden in CI, he's a badass assassin that kills without mercy, yet he's a mundane character and not a Nerevarine or CoC level char. If everyone was super "awesome" as you would put it, then the RP would be no fun because everyone could kick aside any opposition. Thats why we make mundane characters so that it's a challenge. So for the last time please quit complaining about the guide.
