That's an interesting anology. I guess it must be pretty bad then?

It's great to see Fallout 4 finally win GOTY, everywhere I look they give it to the Witcher. On a side note, I also wish that Metal Gear would've won it somewhere as well, that game is the only thing that stops me from playing Fallout 4 sometimes.

I agree, the games that really push the boundaries of the whole industry don't happen very often; that's just a pompous title for the regular "game direction" category. If anything, Bethesda is pushing the boundaries more than other developers by merging into their games components from other genres.

Well, Dice Awards clearly have zero integrity.

Yeah, a lot of industry professionals have zero integrity because you don't like their choice, lol!

For some gamers they don't matter, but for the studios themselves, they matter a lot! Or else they wouldn't cramp their box covers with " winner of a million awards" slogans...

Well deserved, congrats! For me personally awards from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academy_of_Interactive_Arts_%26_Sciences or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_Developers_Choice_Awardscarry more weight than the myriad of goty's proclaimed by random blogs, obscure magazines or Francis'esque youtubers.

Don't confuse the (greater) anti-Bethesda haters group with the (smaller) CDPR fans group, they are not necessarily connected. I know real people who love both Bethesda's and CDPR's games. Bethesda has a lot of haters since buying the Fallout franchise and the numbers are growing with every new Fallout by Bethesda. The anti-Bethesda haters would support any game, just ANY game against a Fallout by Bethesda, even a FIFA or NBA game, so Witcher 3 here is just a collateral victim, it happened to be (arguably, sure) the best game of 2015 so all the anti-Bethesda haters embraced it as the holy savior who killed Fallout 4...

...NOT, as these awards and the sales themselves prove B)

Kind of surprised myself. FO4 isn't nearly as good as Skyrim IMO so it's not the best game Bethesda's made, but I guess they are not competing against themselves here. Honestly would have assumed The Witcher 3 would have won it. More deserving IMO. Maybe they should have bought more ad space on their website. ;)

I've never played any Witcher games.

Self-appointed professionals, I'm supposed to trust them?

And no, it is not because I simply don't support their choice, it is because it is the wrong choice. Period.

It is not a roleplaying game, so why did it win #4?

It might be the best mobile platform game, but then again it is a mobile platform game so why does this even deserve a freaking category?

And game of the year? The lukewarm, half-finished, badly written, badly designed Fallout 4 is 'the' game of the year? What a joke.

And outstanding achievement in game direction? It is literally the same game they've been doing since Oblivion except they (admittedly) ripped off other big title successes for their "new features". So unless this award is for games that stagnate and rip off other studios with no idea on how to improve what the series they're working on established from the beginning then it sure is fitting. But that isn't the award they got. What they got an award for is outstanding achievement in game direction. It's a [censored] joke.

I don't play The Witcher and I don't even have much interest in playing it but I'd say it would be a far more worthy contender of all these awards but the mobile platform one.

Like I said, Dice Awards got zero [censored] integrity or they are just as much of incompetent buffoons as Bethesda is.

As usual, the fanatics thrive in the goty threads :hehe:

For me it's not so black and white, I can play and love more than one game. In my world, being nominated in the first 4 or 5 games produced in an entire freaking year by dozens of great studios, already shows a big success. Also, failing to win no.1 and being "just" no.2 doesn't make a game [censored], this is not the arena, win or die. Both F4 and TW3 won a lot of awards from various sources, both are commercially successful, bashing one and praising the other won't change the fact they are both great games (at an industry-level of perception).

Dude, chill. Having that much hate isn't good for you.

Plus awards don't really matter at the end of the day, let's be honest. What matters in the long run is how much money a game makes.

Tell that to Bethesda so that they'll start producing proper Fallout games and I won't have to be so hateful.

Be nice to Witcher fans, different rewards, different winners. Depends on who to ask at moment.

Cheers,

As someone who's been a fan of Fallout since Fallout 1, there is no such thing as a "proper Fallout game" and there never will be. What makes a Fallout game varies wildly depending on who you ask.

Serious question, are you from the NMA crowd?

EDIT: Btw, being hateful is a choice. Bethesda didn't do it to you, you're doing it to yourself.

They actually are professionals, whether you like it or not.

History

AIAS was founded in 1992 by Andrew Zucker. After building an organization of close to 400 members consisting of executives from both the gaming and entertainment industries, as well as a board of 40 notable industry leaders including visionary Timothy Leary, AIAS produced the first televised awards show honoring computer games in 1994, which was broadcast live from Universal Studios Hollywood via TBS. The show, entitled "Cybermania '94" was hosted by Leslie Nielsen and Jonathan Taylor Thomas. In 1995, the second annual awards show became the first awards program streamed on the Web, via bravo.com, at the same time promoted by its sister television network, Bravo. As originally envisioned by Andrew Zucker, AIAS was to become a bridge between Silicon Valley and Hollywood, thus serving to link and provide a forum for dialogue between professionals in both technology and entertainment. Judging was independently audited by PriceWaterhouseCoopers. AIAS co-promoted numerous events with organizations such as the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, the Directors Guild of America and Women in Film.

Thereafter, in 1996, AIAS was re-established is a non-profit organization that promotes computer and video game entertainment with the annual https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D.I.C.E._Summit event, where its Interactive Achievement Awards ceremony has been held annually since 1998. Its membership consists of industry professionals, and only professional members who meet a set of minimum criteria are able to vote for the best entertainment software of the year.

Well, fallout 4 is a fallout game.It might not follow the original formula but it still is fallout.

Of course it's nothing like Fallout 2 but I don't recall anyone risking money to dig up the corpse that the Fallout franchise was before Bethesda stepped in.

And sure, obsidian wants a slice of the cake now that Bethesda has brought Fallout back under the spotlights. And I'd be happy if bethesda gave Fallout's full rights to Obsidian but that is not happening.

Obsidian is just really late to the party.that's all.

Yet they voted Fallout 4 as GOTY, best roleplaying game and the most oustanding achievement in game direction. :goodjob:
