Indeed, conjuration is quite fine

But if you haven't already then you should try it in Morrowind and Oblivion

It's even better in those with more diversity, you can have everything you can have in Skyrim aside from the familiar in both games + a lot of other creatures such as Scamps, Clannfears, Daedroths, Hungers (in Oblivion you only get them after getting the Shivering Isles expansion though), Skeletons, Ghosts, Liches, Zombies/Bonewalkers, Spider Daedra (Oblivion only), Xivilai (Oblivion only), Winged Twilights (Morrowind only), Golden Saints (Morrowind only) and more miscellaneous creatures but we normally don't count them among the kind of creatures Conjuration can offer.
The focus in Skyrim seems to be more on making individual summons work right but really even with that if you think it's good in Skyrim then Morrowind & Oblivion can only make you like Conjuration even more.
