Conjuration Necromancy Branch - How Much Is It Necessary?

Post » Sat Aug 06, 2016 5:42 pm

Hi All

I have been playing the game for a while and I have a level 43 char speciallized in conjuration+ranged attacks. As you know conjuration skill has a branch of necromancy and it has got spells such as Dread Zombie, Raise Zombie, Reanimate Corpse and Reverant. What I want to ask is, are these spells somehow worth using for a char at level 100 conjuration. With such a char you can conjure two dremora lords which are pretty powerful allies. As you can't conjure-resurrect more than 2 at the same time, necromancy skill seems pretty useless cause the creatures and people that you resurrect with necromancy spells are weaker than dremore lords almost everytime. I want to learn what is the point of necromancy and is this skill somehow become useful at the latter levels.

Thanks

I don't think you are missing anything. I prefer summons over revives as well. As you say, it is very hard to do better than a pair of conjured dremora lords. Revives require an available corpse - often one that you have to somehow kill. Revives leave a pesky ashpile. One benefit I see of revives is that by reviving dead corpses around necromancers you prevent them from using the corpses. Mostly though, I view the necro branch of conjuration as an option for those who want to roleplay that direction.

As someone who plays necromancers I will agree that it is mostly for those who want to flavor over the power. I prefer the challenge that comes with necromancy over pure conjuration, and I like the tactics that can ensue from raising certain types of NPCs.

Necromancy can be very powerful when you raise certain high level corpses and give them smithed/enchanted weapons. With the Dead Thrall spell they won't turn to dust and can be raised repeatedly if necessary.

For the player it's clumsy in a fight since you need to target the corpse, hitboxes can mess things up if there is clutter among the bodies. Characters I feel most comfortable using necromancy with are sword & board warriors that utilize raise dead spells and restoration, like a death knight or whatever you want to call it.

There are certain NPC's that are worth turning into zombies, like The Caller. Aside from a select few though, it's kind of worthless. I'm hoping in the next game they make necromancy a more viable alternative.

I have played a conjurer that went down the Necromancy route, and aside from the role play aspect of just having a female Forsworn Ravager in her fur bikini following me around, she was really quite useful. In fact, if you have two of those, or one and a high level archer, you never have to fight anything again. The Ravager will sit back and dual cast that wave of frost spell until everything is dead.
