My conjuration summons are idiots.

I trained it high hoping stronger monsters would be smarter but nope. Whenever I summon a creature they stand around for a good 5 seconds while im being attacked. Then they precede to throw long range attacks at the wall. Within the last 5 seconds they get maybe one or two hits on the enemy. Is there any way to avoid this?

Make an example of that one. Kill it and soul trap it. Then summon another one and threaten to do the same. :D

The AI in this game is spotty at best. Sometimes I've summoned dremoras and they just stand there while getting beaten for 5 seconds before they pull out their sword... At least in most cases they act as a distraction.

It sounds like you'd get pretty good use out of Clannfears; they don't have any long range attacks to repeatedly sling against walls/obstacles, and in my experience they tend to react fairly quickly (no need for them to draw weapons either). They also do quite good melee damage, and can usually soak a fair few hits themselves.

I agree with Wheem in recommending clannfears. Not only are they cute as a button, but for my septims, they have the best, fastest and most aggressive AI.

I prefer to fight from longer ranges and the clannfear seems to have the longest range enemy detection ability.

One trick I do is combine summon clannfear with inviso on self. That way if he gets the slightest bit confused, my character can safely (invisibly) lead him to his target.

What about Deadroth. Mine kicks major ass. It pimp slaps everyone and anyone while I get a good Wizard's Fury on them.
