[IDEA] Conjured armor overhaul

Post » Fri Jul 30, 2010 4:34 am

I've grown tired of conjured armor. Every couple of minutes, even outside of combat, I have to cast a conjure spell. If I don't, I end up running around naked. So I was thinking about how we could change the system without it becoming overpowered.

Instead of the armor acting on a timer, how about the armor has a fairly low durability (Strong durability for stronger spells/higher conjuration skill). As long as you are not doing anything that damages the armor, you can wear it constantly. However, as soon as the armors durability hits 0, it is removed.

Would this be possible? Would it be able to work alongside mods like LAME or SM?

What if you kept it, but it'd take a hit out your magicka pool or something? Like a full suit cuts 100 MP from your total pool, leaving it at say, 150 max instead of 250?

That would work, but it would potentially nerf some players. It would take some fine-tuning.

What if you could conjure any armor you have come in contact with? Like if you see some ebony armor, you could cast a spell on it. Then you would get a spell that would summon that piece of armor. I think there is a way of using OBSE that would make it possible with any armor, even if it is from another mod iirc.

I like the first idea, but I'm really bored with the daedric armors, not everything that is conjured comes from Menrues Dagon's realm. How about different items from different planes?

Ummm... why don't you wear clothes then? You're still allowed to wear clothes, and you're allowed to summon armor over those clothes....

If I ever figure out what's causing it, my CM_Partner goes necked when she casts Bound Armor.. :whistling:

The usual problem is that summoned armor covers a single body slot, but the item displaced may cover multiple ones. The classic example is that Mage Apprentice girls summon Bound Greaves and run around topless to distract the enemy, because the greaves replace the robe.

A generic "Bound Armor" spell that tests what the character is currently wearing and provides the most appropriate upgrade, instead of the specific "Bound Cuirass" "Bound Greaves", "Bound Helmet" spells would be really useful. Just don't give it to those Mage Apprentice girls, or they'll get coy on us and stop flashing the boobies.

I've always wished that armor you conjured drew from other magic schools, like you would conjure fire armor, or ice armor, or death armor (flesh-looking), the first two wouldn't be that hard, they would just require re-skins of fairly un-ornate armors, throw on some fire/frost effects. But either way, the idea that the armor comes out of your magika is really cool I think. I think the best way to go about it, would be that when your conjured armor is hit, it blocks a certain amount of damanged, based on the level of the spell/your conjuration, and eats a certain amount of magika. This would discouraged casters from just unning right into a bunch of melee enemies and being able to tank, but would still offer greater protection. Maybe the fire/ice armors could be special ones you get for having high conjuration and high destruction, and could even damage enemies when they hit you...but I digress. lol

She's cast the Helmet and Gauntlets without problems, not sure on the boots, but she'll generally cast a spell and fight in the Buff...
It's actually kinda cute, But I Don't really think that's her intention....

Ah, I see. I usually don't have this problem because I normally don't touch summoned armor until I make a spell that combines all the pieces into one entire set. I don't much care for summoning bits and pieces of armor, especially since I'm usually playing as a mage, as summoning gauntlets and a helmet would do more harm to my magic ability than good to my defense ability.
