Connary's Graphical Compendium

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 8:34 am

What about for OpenMW?

I doubt OMW will have support for DX10 in it's core from the beginning. Any developer may correct me if I'm wrong. I just suspect you need a recently educated or re-educated graphics programmer who's fresh on the job to work it out. Even so, these kind of trees would come very late in the big wheel of things to create.

Back on topic now.

If the plan is to gather some of the best resources out there to retexture, refit, then I must say I love that plan! It will truly mean an epic upgrade!

Please peace. Im so sad with this kind of things.

Evidently StarwarsGuy the trees you have shown to me play in another league. Trying to implement the most innovative techniques can burn our energy. The static ones are perfect for the isolated world of morrowind imho.

Thanks Alaisiage i will check all this mods to see if i can make some use.

Wow Oriphier, i fell in love with your Fang and fork time ago. I am going to include both.

Thank! By the way check the other artifact too i think you will find some interesting resource in them ( and having them retextured by you would be wonderful i think! ), and obviously if you need uvw fixes, or model feel free to ask!

I know this, I was just asking you if they were possible, would you include them in your pack?

I dont think so. If it was possible will burn the old computers that a lot of people have to play Morrowind. I want to maintain the replacer to a wide audience on the community.

Today i finished two more shrines. I need to redraw the saints, the original ones are excessively blurred.

So you wouldn't add things like http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1027386 to your pack?

 Looks excellent!

You probably already know about the concept art up on http://www.imperial-library.info/gallery/? There are three pages that have scans of the concept art for Morrowind, and on page 2 is http://www.imperial-library.info/gallery/mw_TAoM_p23.jpg. :)

I had PMed you a while back, connary. A while ago, I was directed to the website of one of the concept artists/artists (Mark Jones) for several TES games, including Morrowind! Not all of the links appear to work, but many are still up and working. He lists several of the components to Morrowind that he worked on, as well as what he drew inspiration from when designed them. You can check out the website http://www.mjonesgraphics.com/. After you click to enter the main page, you will see several links on the left-hand side of the page. Click on "Past Projects" and you can select several TES titles, such as: Daggerfall, Battlespire, TES Travels, Shadowkey, Morrowind, and Tribunal. :)

I meant a replacer for the original trees using the methods of tree making in that video.

This is rendering for films. Not games. Think about the amount of cpu needed for this. Once it's on film no cpu is needed. So they can do render 1'000's of time in different spots on film.

On the description of the video it says it's rendered in realtime.

It's realtime for graphical demos and games alright. Just as mentioned, DX10 stuff. For movies why mix realtime graphics with rendered graphics while rendered graphics are 1000 times better and more consistent?

Unless they start doing movie graphics all realtime which would even today be stupid o_O

Look it up.. Geometry shaders ;)

On a more general note, I don't think the goal is to update Morrowind wholesale to nextgen graphics as it simply wouldn't be the same game anymore. When I was obsessed by Quake there was a new engine made with support for stencil shadows and per pixel lights etc., but I didn't like it as it completely changed the atmosphere in the game. So the goal is to find a balance between new, cool features and hires graphics while still retaining the original feel. Just my 2 septims.

Just the shinyness though, I'd like to give it a try myself for my own Dagoth Ur replacer I'm making.

I know I am not the greatest texture artist, nor have I contributed much in the way of mods to the community (one lousy texture mod- to be used as a resource by those making graphical compendiums funnily enough). I will not direct you to my mod as I do not wish to distract this thread, nor, I note did I receive a PM from you. However here's the deal- I have made massive changes to my mod since the last update in January (the only modding I have been able to do unfortunately). If you are interested in even seeing what I have to offer to your mod, I will send you some updated textures and some comparison shots. I realize you do not like finished textures particularly, however I never consider my own work to be done (judging by the massive number of changes I have made that holds true). There are few mesh changes in my mod, though several have been modified to use normal, environment and glow maps- mostly though it's just graphical. Just PM me here if you are interested- otherwise sorry I couldn't help, I am afraid I have no time to do anything for another modder- I have already commited to far more projects then I will ever be able to complete.

BTW- there are, as I mentioned earlier some environment maps included in my newest unreleaed update- infact I was just working on them last week. they were intended originally to work with any mesh, however as I have refined them they are more suited to the meshes to which they are applied. That being said- if you need env maps you could try some of mine (I don't claim to be any kind of expert on making good env maps- but i was happy with these). Don't even bother looking at the old ones I made- they are an attrocity.

Also just thought I would mention that Dagoth Ur's Mask is awesome.

Absolutely amazing! :shocking:

How come that your textures always achieve that OMG-that's-how-it-should-have-looked-like-right-from-the-start effect?
Incredible! :ahhh:

BTW: those new imperial armors (including the new templar helmet) look darn awesome too. Where do you get the sources for such great textures?

Connary, I guess I read wrong before, I thought you needed some environment maps- oh well, I sent you a PM with a link to some env maps I did, perhaps you could use them.

Only somewhat related, to this topic.

I was fiddling around with MGE, and came to the conclusion. Although it hardly makes sense to stop modding the game, after awhile of thinking was I self reminded that all these increases in over all quality yet no improvements to the engine. I don't ask anyone to improve the engine of the game, so much as ponder the fact that the game is still running off of a sinlge core. even with better video cards. How much can we really improve before we have to start thinking about what to actually add to our morrowind, based on the games over all limitations?

Interesting, no? Yes, I am aware of that project to improve the games engine. But is it even relevant? I doubt it'll ever even make it out of a beta test stage let alone be released.

It's not really related to this topic, so to avoid derailing the thread, you should probably start a new topic. :)

Looks great connary, though I gotta agree with SWG, dagoth's mask looks a little bit like a plate. :D
It's only the trimming really for me, the rest of it looks awesome, especially that reflection and shinyness.
