Connary's Graphical Compendium#7

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 2:16 pm

Now I'm not sure I really believe that one of the most astounding and simply most awesome texture replacers is dividing people before it is released...
You know that a modder is primarily modding for himself and that taking the community's wishes into consideration is just a bonus and, in fact, a gift? That's exactly the start of an attitude that has made a number of modders leave the community. You're not being grateful people - think about that for once, will you?

I think work in progress texture replacers will always be somewhat divisive, especially I'd a modder is open to suggestions or constructive criticism. *chuckle*
The key is to keep it constructive and not be too pushy.

And please, don't say "people" - huge numbers of us are extremely grateful and looking forward to this immensely.

Arriving to Sadrith Mora. http://img7.imageshack.us/i/mgescreenshot1o.jpg/

Some works on the big door taking care of the Telvanni organic look of all his architecture. Not so metallic, like Tronvillain said.

I travelled to Sadrith Mora just to be reminded of how they look in my game now. Might be Plangkye's, perhaps, if Hi-Res Telvanni covers that. Both your versions look great and gives a more ancient and gothic feel to the city. Not sure if I agree with the change, as I've always envisioned Telvanni as rather fancy, liking the spectacular and things that glitter and are colorful. But I have of course not seen the set in its entirety and a more somber, ancient look sounds fitting and very cool.

Think I prefer the first one as it just pops out a bit more and seems more polished by centuries of hands opening and closing them.

Well i normally could care less about opinions that are against what another forum poster happens to say. Yypically what i post has as much relevance in making a mod better if the modder wants to share with us his/her work to begin with. Most other politically correct opinions aren't always bad, if one enjoys locking ones lips onto there favored modders buttocks. However i would rather offer an opinion of consequence to help shape something great to even greater heights if possible. Especially when the modder wants opinions.

Besides, concerning the door. I thought it would be another to add to an optional (have both and choose) situation as I believe i posted.

The problem is that this mod is going to be huge. It only gets bigger and more confusing with the more "optionals" that the author adds. For something like working gates, where there's actually a gameplay change, it's more necessary to include a couple versions. For two versions of the same texture, it's nonsense.

And if you could unlock your lips from your own tush for a few moments, you would see that we're not just yes men. There have been plenty of instances where there was a perceived issue with a texture (the mud pools and the comberry plant, to name a couple examples) and it was pointed out to connary. The problem with your post is that it makes you sound like a total toolbag. You sounded rude, spoiled, and whiny all in the same post, and threw a tantrum over a tiny, TINY detail in one texture out of a massive pack.

I love the door picture, I was not sure about the mud, but the more I look at it the more it grows on me. :)

Well, seeing the last discussion i think that this mod thread need some rest until the final release.

WackaMacka, i dont care at all about opinions. Everyone have one. I dont want to like to everybody. I care about people that share ideas when have a different point of view about any matter. I care about people that is nice and share his good feelings in every aspect of life, also here. I care with someone that have an opposed point of view and try to explain and bring solutions.
Its not your case. You are tying to be helpful? Well, i think no, in fact you show some kind of scorn to all the others work, not only here in my compendium mod. My opinion its that you don't have the basic tools to maintain a social communication between equals. You think that the insult gives more eloquence to your speech. Well, it doesn't. Dont worry, its an opinion, you know.

But well, i must insist that so long WIP thread as killed the real status and objectives of the mod. Every month its more difficult for the people have a clue of the real status of the whole idea. My fault.

Connary, what do you mean by the last part about the WIP thread?

Sorry for not understanding.

I think he means no more WIP thread, he will just make a new thread when he is done.

I do not mind so long as you complete your vision Connary, we are all looking forward to this! :)

I don't think that he means no more WIP threads, I would be disappointed if he did as I love seeing the progress made on this as it happens. I think he's just stating that it's difficult for people to understand the real scope of this project (like how having a ton of addons and optional textures and the like wouldn't really mesh so well with a huge compendium) because it's spread out over so many pages on so many threads. Maybe somebody should start a gallery thread solely dedicated to posting all of his images thus far (comments and additional posts would be discouraged) so that he can simply link to that at the start of each WIP thread and people can see for themselves what has gone into this.

We had such a thread a while ago (can't remember who'd done it, though) - but most of it wouldn't be up to date anymore, either. What would be nice was to have an organized W.I.P. thread which gets updates in the first post as new pictures are released. But hosting pictures is a lot of work as well (which is why I think he's only showing us one or two at a time - and only small sections at that - rather than a series) so I can understand if that doesn't happen. And with tempers running high here as well I could also understand if he desisted from the temptation of showing us more of his work (being a texture artist myself and having certain... um... issues with people I showed my work to) becasue it's just tiresome to always have a bunch of people complaining about this or that little detail becasue it doesn't fit in THEIR OWN VIEW.

finally, some rational sense. lets all go feel nature under our feet instead of sitting around looking at fake stuff in a video game. when its done. good. if it helps bring about a new age of reason to the masses , most impressive. its a video game. not a life style. enjoy it. dont live it.

besides if an opinion or a pat on the back wasnt implied, no modder nor mod would be here. nor give it to anyone. so yes. the opinions of others is wanted. not liking some of them, well...it goes with posting. like the when folks dislike mine and try to say things about me. go figure. there is alot of decent work going on though. keep it up to all modders. just try not to make your work, the emperors new clothes.

I forgot to say that I like the new texture on the stone door. I also like the mud pond texture. For those who forgot, here's a screenshot of the http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e358/Greendogo/MGEScreenshot008.jpg (it has been adjusted because I took the picture at night).

Oh jeez :biglaugh:

Bethesda's terrible... Thank God for Connary.

Oh, Connary, I like that you have the concept of Morrowind being a bit, whithered, and used. I feel since everything has been there for a few centuries at least, it should look like it. I very much like the 2nd Telvanni Door you posted.

You have Patchy's Support! :foodndrink: I Know it's frustrating but try to ignore drama, If you involve yourself it'll stick. :frog:

I don't particularly like the new door. The first door looked more like a real door of polished stone as I would expect from the Telvanni whom I find to be a group who admire the new and extravagant archetecture over old and rusty. The Egyptians did it. So did all major nations in ancient times. The newer door just does not suit my tastes.

^^Do you see the difference in constructive and destructive?

:nope: Side Note-Don't like it? Don't install that texture, simple...or just don't d/l the mod when its released, either way has zero impact on the creator, however, being hurtful, mean, and abusive towards a modder who gracefully shares his/her work without any type of empathy towards their feelings on the matter is rather petty in my humble opinion.

:grad: Not to mention, when people bite back at you, you tell them to go outside and stop living a game, who do you think you are? Seriously? Making assumptions about people because they don't like your opinion while explaining why you think its ok to not like something someone else has done through the anonymity of the internet makes you cool.....and a freaking hipocrite, also, in my humble opinion.

Regards,
Matilija

P.S. Though I realize you probably won't see this, I appreciate your hard work on this Connary, I like most of what I see here, and those things that I don't like, I'll not use, as thats what modding is all about, making the game your own, which I hope you will continue to do. :tops:

Which seems to be the best course of action in my humble opinion. The more time you devote to finishing this work of art, the more energy you'll have left afterwards to deal with people not liking your work. :P

pretty much making a point of yourself arentcha? you dont like my opinions on a piece of his art work. but your just as quick to jump on my opinions because im not in line with how you want HIS mod to be. ironic.

kinda why i thought it better to have optionals after his mod is released. logical to assume best of all his work. but no one seems it makes sense for reason of "its to confusing". yes it must be confusing to simply drag and drop an item in the same way as you would install this compendium. =)

Nobody likes your opinions because you sound like a spoiled child. If you composed yourself with even the barest minimum of civility and respect for others, you would find that more people would treat you in kind. Instead, you sound like a whiny, entitled, selfish little brat who demands that the entire world be conformed to his liking. I honestly couldn't care less if you were satisfied with the compendium, and I'm fairly certain that most others would agree.

 You didn't even read what I quoted did you? Perhaps you would be so kind to go back and see how I changed what you wrote, your opinion is not what I was jumping on, its your wording, because there is no reason to be a [censored] while giving a negative opinion on someone else's work.

I'm not sure what is worst. One flamer or 12 people giving him an audience so he'll continue.

I think Connary's is going to be taking some time off. Please allow him his privacy. I'm sure he'll be back when it's fun again. :foodndrink:

They aren't terrible at all, you should see some of the Oblivion meshes/textures, dang, some of that stuff is great, I just wish they would make 1024 textures.
