Considering Getting Other Fallout games.

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 2:29 am

I got the awesome Fallout 3.

And I was thinking of getting the other Fallout games.

I am definately getting Fallout New Vegas.

And considering getting Fallout Brotherhood of Steel for PS2.

I saw the Fallout Collection on pc for a really low price. It has Fallout, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics.

I never bought a game for the pc before.

I play free game on the pc but they are rpgs or jrpgs, more modern games.

Are F1 F2 and FT really diferent from F3?

What is the gameplay like?

I like the way F3 is with the third person and first person and vats.

I like how you can see your character and outfits, lol.

What is FBoS like?

What is the gameplay like?

If it is PS2 it sounds like it would be similer to F3.

If they are like Baldurs Gate style, top down with detailed figures that would be ok.

My pc is Windows 7. Would it play the Fallout Collection?

It says Windows 2000/Windows XP on it.

Fallout and Fallout 2 are very different then Fallout 3. They are RPG, turn based, top down view and use a map node system :fallout:. New Vegas is more like the Originals when it comes to writing, game mechanics and when it come to being an RPG.

Fallout Tactics is different in that it is a squad based Tactical game where you are a Brotherhood soldier. You can control up to five squad mates. It has an awesome story IMO. Still used Map node system, but it has real time and turn based.

Fallout Brotherhood of Steel is considered total crap and not canon at all. If you want to play it go you are free to do so.

Your PC can play Fallout, Fallout 2 and Tactics but you will have to get patchs so they will work on windows 7 without all the colour problems.

You have to realize that the originals are games from the 1997, so you'll have adjust for that time period if your expecting "awesome graphics". If you can get over the graphics and classic game play style that are the best fallout experiences you'll have. I still play them atleast once a year or so. I got them when they came out.

I think most people are hesitant to play them due to the turn-based top-down combat (I know I was), but if you manage to look past that (assuming you don't like that sort of combat of course) then they really are amazing games.

Thank you. :)

PC gaming with older games sounds complex. :brokencomputer: :user:

I don't care about canon.

I just care if the games good.

My pc is Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

If that has any relevence.

Going by the other thread, it does. :s

The old games have brutal combat. :intergalactic: (Well, FO1 only has it until one gets power armor... FO2 is challenging all around. )

Awesome to hear it. We'll turn you to the "Dark side" Dino side soon! :P

I noticed your sig, you didn't happen to play FO2 and get to New Reno did you? If not when you do you'll be pleasantly surprised when you go talk to Renesco. :D

Zxhraivretiaiel I know you don't care about canon but I read your post in the BoS god or bad section about how you want to see how BoS is before you get the other games. Brotherood of Steel is not canon, even Bethesda seems to want nothing to do with it (Thank God). So if you do get it and love it, just remember that nothing in that game is considered canon.

I would recommend Fallout Tactics next and play it real-time (not turn base).

You can switch during play to turn-base play to see if you can stomach playing that way, but it's a Hugh change in reality, taking away much of the hardcoe challenge that makes Fallout Tactics such a must-play game, but if you like turn-base play then you could try games Fallout 1 and 2, but note that they are not as challenging or exciting, and quite easy if you are good with calculations. Perhaps New Vegas would be a better choice after Fallout Tactics though, it’s more up-to-date and was made by some of those who made the turn-base play of the early Fallouts, but they have dropped the turn-base play in New Vegas so it will be a much better game-play now.

Enjoy them but I can see that you are wanting more like the awesome Fallout 3. Fallout 3 is king at the moment, you will have to wait for Fallout 4 to have anything close.

Not real-time, not turn-based. Continuous turn-based!

Tactics is very brutal though ;__; sooo easy do have your squad killed there, and if you, the squad leader, is killed, it's game over if you haven't saved, and I tell you, it is very easy to forget saving in that game!

I don't mind turn based combat. I have lots of JRPGs with turn based combat. Not top down combat though.

I don't think I will like FT as much. But the first three are all together in a dvd rom anyway.

I am not that good with computers really. :(

I know how to find a new wi fi signal and defragment and scan for viruses and remove games etc but beyond that it gets not good.

Are patches hard to install? I can download and install stuff.
If they self install with only clicks from me I should be ok.

Anything more complex I will be in trouble.

I will bear it in mind about BoS not being at all canon.

It would be the easiest game to play for me. Just put it in the PS2 and away we go, lol.

But not the lowest price one, lol.

A euphemism for real-time actually, you can't tell the difference. Real-time is actually NPCs reacting to your actions constantly, in other word constant reactions/constant turns without break. It's just the game-maker saying real-time another way. Whatever, he doesn't mind turn-base play.

Yeah Tactics really is much harder, I played on normal setting, that's plenty hard enough, and I usually play on hardest settings. On Tactics forums, they were loaded with questions of "how to .........."

I die all the time in Tactics ;_;

What I like about "continuous turn-based" is that Action Points still matter, used for shooting enemies and perform other actions, but it won't restrict your movements anymore. A simple thing like that made the game work so much faster, and give it better game play. Fallout 1 and 2 should've had that haha ;)

The "Classics" link in your sig appears to have a reference (unintended and small, perhaps, but nonetheless) to a character in Fallout 2.

The "Rocketman" is the reference, or could be taken as such. Renesco in New Reno is called "Rocketman Renesco" because he sells drugs. At least that's what I think Andaius was referring to. No matter, though.

Chosen One: WHAT DO YOU SELL?
Renesco: I sell recreational drugs mostly. That's why they gave me that idiotic appellation, 'the Rocketman.' Hmmmph. I
also sell some caravan supplies. You NEED anything or can I get back to something important?
Chosen One: Rocketman, huh? Know the line in that Elton John song, "Rocketman, burning off the mmmncfnfm there at home?' What's
he really saying there?

there's the snip from the dialog file. :D

another of my favorite the chosen One says when talking to Renesco is:
{What do I WANT? I don't really know. Most of the time I ignore my quest and walk into the homes of others,
riffling through people's shelves...oooh, like those over there!}

Ah yes if Fallout 1 and 2 had that, now that would have been really something!

Fallout Tactics, I was having to reload the very start of the game a number of time! A game that really needed thought. It's a game that stays great over time.

Fallout 4, a hardcoe mode like that please.

Fallout New Vegas has a hardcoe mode but that’s all about must-eat/must-drink and nothing like the hardcoe of Fallout Tactics which is true hardcoe.

New Vegas is great. It's just FO3 with more quests a better story and its actually a sequel to FO2.

FO2 and 1 are amazing games but they're slow-paced and difficult.

DO NOT GET BROTHERHOOD OF STEEL FOR PS2!!!
