Okay... so I've tried everything I can think of. I'm not officially at a loss.

My computer is generally very stable and I rarely crash in any game. Fallout New Vegas was mostly stable for the first week I had it. Yes, I had framerate issues (like everyone did from what I understand), I used the .dll fix to get around that for a while and the game ran much better. Then came the patch... and there went my game.

Now I can load up a game and even walk around for a few minutes. But now sometimes my character slides around out of place seemingly randomly (like I move in a room and it slides me partway back towards where I just came from. That, of course, is an annoying problem that completely breaks the immersion, but oh well... I can deal with a little bug like that until it's fixed. However, once those few minutes are over... *CRASH*... load up and do a couple things... *CRASH*... okay... now this is getting *CRASH*... ARGH!!! WTH?!?!... check for issues people have listed, make sure everything looks good... it does... load up... *CRASH*... And then I give up.

I can't afford to buy all the games I want. I usually have enough extra money to buy a game about once a month. This last time I chose Fallout New Vegas. It has become more of a frustration than a pleasure. It it isn't fixed soon, I'll just write it off as a loss and go play one of my games that work for a while until I can afford to buy a new game. It's probably already a bit obvious, but I'm disappointed.

Run the game without the 1.2.0 patch

I had a similar problem, my game didn't crash but while in vats I dropped to 0-5 fps making me have to quit the game being unplayable (aka 'crash' the game myself)

What I did was:

1) Tell Steam not to update the game (double-click Steam icon in taskbar, select "Games" and "View Games Library", right click on Vegas, select "Properties", select the "Updates" tab and choose not to have updates automatically installed.

2) right click on Fallout.exe in steamapps, click Properties, then Previous Versions, copy the version dated October and put it in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\fallout new vegas replacing the original file.

Still looking for a solution...

Crashes occur most often when changing areas (inside to outside or vice versa) or after fast traveling.

I played for almost 40 minutes without a crash in windowed mode once... otherwise the game crashes within about 5-10 minutes of playing, otherwise no other issues.

Framerate is good... sound working great... everything seems fine then suddenly CTD!

I've tried every workaround I have found online including doing a "clean boot" in Win7... any additional help would be greatly appreciated.

hey guys, it seems im not the only one with the problem, my FNV crashes right after i make the first shot while using VATS, i can't get it, why?, and not only that, the screens turns blue and it says something about an error and then the sistem resets !!!! i mean, i haven't had the chance to even play the game,!!!! man.... i really don't know what do, please, some advice will be appreciated!

and i get the patch through steam my problem is not solved yet!!!

I've noticed that for me the game is most stable along the route from Goodsprings to Vegas, so long as I more or less stick to the path. However, I crash a lot more when I'm off the beaten path, particularly in the areas north of Vegas. Maybe the path along the main quest route was just more thoroughly debugged.
