Console and PC gaming are different markets!

Post » Tue Jun 02, 2015 11:17 pm

the is no brand named PC. a PC is just a collection of hardware, usually with a version of windows as an operating system. PC is short for personal computer. computers got smaller and cheaper. not sure where the term console came from.

these days the difference between the two is the console's hardware and operating system are closed. if console makers would allow a better OS, a console would become a PC. console makers often make little or no profit on the console. profit comes from licenses. there is a limit on how much most people will spend on fun things like gaming. which is why consoles are made with dated hardware. pc gamers are hardware junkys. got to have the best hardware they can afford or can't afford.

when both Xbox One and ps4 consoles came out, there was a 100 dollar difference because the Xbox One had an extra hardware that many gamers didn't care about. sure there cheap end PCs that will outperform consoles. but there windows with all sorts of nastys that they may become infected with. consider parents with no knowledge of computers giving a pc to the children to play games on. only the game won't play. could be driver problems, hardware problems, got a nasty. parents may feel stupid if they can't fix the problem. with consoles it either works or it doesn't.

this is why there are different markets for gaming.

Umm...thanks for this....editorial I guess?

A console IS a PC. All a console is is a computer specifically dedicated to gaming. It's not just a brick that happens to play games. Was your thread designed solely in hopes of bating a console vs PC war? Because no one here is arguing or cares because the PC computers can outperform a console, but it's just a matter of personal preference that determines what they game on. I seriously don't get the whole point of your rant. Yes, a PC can outperform consoles, but no one cares. No, they're not different gaming markets. Plenty of console users and PC users play the same games, just different platforms. Get over it OP.

Except that's wrong you drooling mongrel.

A console is basically a shitty PC. First off, not every PC gamer is a hardware junkie, I personally upgrade when I have to, or when I feel like it and have some extra money at hand.

The computer will usually tell you if a driver needs an update etc. Consoles attract people because they're easy to use, sure. And because they have exclusives. Those are the main reasons I can think about, and now you need to wait ages for console games to install as well, so a lot of the "just pop in the disc" convenience is gone.

In the end it comes down to preference, but the gaming market is the gaming market, a lot of the games are the same on PC and consoles etc. And why would the Xbox have timed exclusives that also affect the PC if the markets were completely different?

Don't try to start a flame war, just to start a flame war.

I have to ask, did you start this thread just to make people argue? It really seems prevocative.

That's not true at all. Not every PC gamer is hardware junkie, spending hours on reading up the technical news and piling up countless PC parts, same as not every console gamer is the stereotypical "casual" with a can of Mt.Dew and pack of Doritos.

That word "may" is crucial here. Using PC with Windows doesn't mean your computer is going to get infected just because it's "PC with Windows". Precaution is important, same as with crossing the street: you may get hit by a car, or you may cross it safely. Being cautious greatly improves safety, but accidents still happen. And consoles break, too.

As a member of the PC master race... on a four year old laptop, statements like this always make me smile.

I only say this:

Computers provides more graphic galore as compared to consoles - but sometimes, graphics are not the only factor to consider. Stable frame rate and a consistent gameplay is equally important.

At the end, what's the benefit if the game is stuttering like anything ???

I thing that's the major advantage that consoles have !!! The ability of computers to mix all the best components, and the fact that it can be upgraded easily, turns it into a disadvantage.

That's because it is far more easily for a developer to optimize a game for a fixed hardware (so a console) as compared to optimizing it for a million different combinations of components. !!!

Another thing is that consoles are backed by their manufacturer, and due to the pressure and the (financial) benefits of a successful console game, the game developer is more focused for a solid performance on that console.

And there is a BIG question !!!

Which one would be more beneficial in the long run, assuming we do not have hardware failures ???

Meaning, if you buy a console or PC today, which one would provide you with a more stable game-play after, say, 5 years without any more investment ???

That's a bit difficult to answer, but considering the better optimization and...

If someone looks at last-gen consoles, their life span was about 6-7 years. So if someone has bought that console the day one release, someone who will buy the same console two or three years later,

can enjoy the game with the same graphics quality.

However, that's not the case with computers. Just take a 6 year old computer (GPU, CPU etc.) and try to run a latest game, there is a really good chance it would struggle to even run it on the lowest settings. !!!

So, a 5 years old console would provide a much better gaming experience than a PC bought 5 years ago !!!

------

Long story short, consoles and gaming PCs are different markets.

So which one you should buy, it depends on your preferences. There are many pros and cons of both devices but at the end of the day, the decision rests with you.

You could go for a PC, if you are an enthusiast gamer, who wants to tweak and mod the games to get the best graphics possible, and you are not afraid of running into (and solving) problems, may caused by your actions.

However, there is a good chance you would need to spend more cash as compared to a console..in the end of the day. !!!

On the other hand, if you prefer a smooth and user-friendly gaming experience over all the "bells and whistles" then go for a console since its much easier to operate as an PC. (there is no doubt about it)

But hey, no one stopping you, from getting both !!!
