Is it possible?

We should be approached by a courier and he'll give us a certain 2 worded note when we're in a major city right?
Problem is.. I've done this walking around in whiterun, windhelm, riften for quite some time, and he doesn't show up not even once..

So I thought that I must have done something wrong, and decided no do a New Game and restart from the beginning, visit the boy, finished the quest, and again the courier doesn't show up

so I did a new game again... and still got the same result . and the same for the 4th time.

My guess is it's broken by a particular mod which I don't have a clue which one, because I used like around 100 mods or so installed.

So before I resorted to bringing the game back to pure vanilla, is there any workaround to force spawn the courier to give me that lovely note?
Tried playing around with setstage console command to no avail.. tried to bypass that courier event, and coc to the but she didn't even want to speak with me, hence the questline is broken for good...

any ideas?

Edit : I'm still running the 1.3.10 version, didn't have the courage to try the beta.

How long did you wait afterwards after killing her?

Sometimes it takes a while.
Did you try fast traveling to somewhere else?

Also, just in case, do you have your timescale in the game set to something other than 30?

about 30 minutes IRL.. it shouldn't be that long I think..

I did fast travel around those 3 cities.. whiterun, windhelm and riften..

Back before I loaded my skyrim with mods I did get the courier come to me in whiterun for all my 3 vanilla characters.. all got those note straight after fast traveling to whiterun from aretino's front door.

my timescale is set to 12 btw.. could this be the culprit?

oh well.. worst case I had to revert back to vanilla, start another new game, go straight for the DB questline, and activate all the mods after receiving the note

I heard that the timescale set below 5 causes things to mess up, but with a timescale of 12, you're probably not waiting long enough, trying hitting T and waiting 24 hours

I honestly think you're just not waiting long enough

GO to sleep in a house you own and she will kidnap you and take you to the shack, i havent seen the courier myself either

are you certain? you make me want to skip work just to try this out lol.

I never sleep in my games, so I probably see the courier because of that.
Do you have Real Darker Dungeons in your mod list?

i don't use that mod IIRC.. I only use realistic lightning w/o post processing for lighting.

You know Wrye Bash will auto generate a mod list with your load order, right?

I didn't know Wrye Bash could do that..

I don't know if the DB quest has a level requirement or not, but there was an issue with Auto Perks Stats Level, where if you leave "ClearLevelProgressBar=1"
set to One, the game for some reason doesn't recognize your level and won't start any leveled quests, so set "ClearLevelProgressBar=1" to 0 just in case

Finally!! after deactivating a lot of mods, get a new game running, set ClearLevelProgressBar=0, finished innocence lost, advlevel to lv 28, fast traveled and walked around in Riften / Whiterun, and finally a courier came running to me straight after I fast traveled to Riften!! And guess what?

Oh well, I give up.. The Dark Brotherhood really was very selective in contacting their chosen candidates.
I thought that was just an exaggeration. I must've failed to impress them

Edit : Reverting back to vanilla Skyrim fixed this issue.. case closed then
