Console Commands And Cheats

Post » Fri Jan 21, 2011 4:17 am

I don't know alot about computers but I know you can have cheat codes on consoles to.

Consoles commands are different.

And the duplicating glitch you are referring to is an EXPLOIT, not a cheat (Which means it's intentionally put in by the Devs.)

for a list of exploits and such, go to the USEP wiki.

Your claims of knowing why the console is there is a lie, else you would not tie it in with cheaters in question two. Biased poll is biased.

I′ve often used the console, but always only on bugs and only when I′ve beat the game and want to have fun. If there is any bad temptation in the console it is to try and finish the game fast so I can allow myself to take nice pictures while flying. But I didn′t even have that in Morrowind because of levitation and Oblivion was short enough as it was, no need to "try" to hurry with it, it just happened.

I expect to see the console in Skyrim and I expect most of the commands to be the same as they were before.

I apologise for the unintended biasness (? lol) I have since changed the wording, I do understand that alot of people have needs for the console although some of the commands you can use in it may Be considered cheating, Hence me making it out to be.
I again i did not mean sound bias in this thread.

well umm you can insense hack a consle consle, and be able to use a consle commands (though alot more limited than pc of course) Would be useful for bug and glitches people tend to find and instead of being able to fix them we just rant about it on the forum and wait for a patch that fixes it. I mean if a quest giver glitches through the level doesn't everyone have a right to fish him out?

Judging by the 1998 by your name, you are pretty young, so I'll try to explain;

Console Commands are used to test mods and bugs on the PC. You can't have them on the console because....You can't. It's not technologically feasible and there's absolutely no point for consoles having them.

Again, they're not cheats....

Were you not paying attention to the other post? It's for mod testing and it's fair because xbox players can't use mods. I use the xbox and I am fine with this because I like to play the story naturally. It isn't only used for cheats, you can teleport, make an npc appear and revive dead ones. It can do many things but xbox players have no use for it.

Your lack of capacity to understand modding and user generated content software is apparent, though giving you the benefit of the doubt i told you why, and so have other users, now im afraid, you'll have to figure it out on your own.

Again wrong..He's trying to make it so Console users can support mods, they're not allowing Console users the ability to CREATE mods. Thus, having console commands on Xbox would be useless.

I find the console incredibly useful for taking screenshots (TAI to freeze the action, TFC to get better camera angles) and for getting out of terrain geometry bugs (TCL).

Only time I've used things like TGM and Kill is when trying someones quest mod, and finding out that they filled their dungeon with overpowered damage sponges. :D

But can't you just turn it on later and then uber yourself up.

No you can't. The point is at the start of each character you tick a box as to whether you want the Console commands on or not. If you tick to have them off, you can never use them for that character.

Glad I could help :D

I'll agree with you on 1 point though; Having console commands on the Consoles would be great ;)

Never use them! That's a terrible idea. Besides the console is also useful for glitches. If your quest wont continue the console can be used to help you and when your trapped behind some rocks you can phase right through it and get right where you were.

well if the cheat codes are on the computer one they should be on the Xbox game to cuz that's only fair.

Its a command script for the modder community on the PC, xbox 360 users are in a controlled enviroment, with no option to expand the game past its limits, so there is no need of the commands on an xbox or PS3 console, as for the dup bug you posted earlier, you equip arrows, hold your attack button, before you swing, quickly access your inventory try equipping your arrows again you'll hear a sound, then without leaving the inventory drop the item you want to duplicate and exit the inventory, it should have worked (if you have updated on XBL or have the GOTY edition installed this will not work, the bug is fixed)

I fell that they can be fun at first, but when you use them you risk being able to figure out all the game has to offer, in oblivions case, every single item, once you know what there is to find it lessens the experience, for me anyway, at first it was fun though, getting a full set of mythrill armour and quest swords i didn't know exist in the game after that i got bored.

The only way to obtain such items is by entering their correct item-ID codes. To obtain these codes you must have been scouring the internet for such lists and entering them (knowing full well they would give you access to the items specified). You can't really have a reason for complaining about it lessening the experience afterwards in my humble opinion.

"Don't like it, don't use it" was the popular phrase people tend to use nowadays I believe ;)

Personally I was very fond of the Console options as they provided me with limitless testing purposes when designing my mods. 'Mannimarco Revisited' would not have been possible without my frequent use of the console during its creation.

Maybe there's an option available in the INI file which would block access to the console codes if you can't resist the temptation. It might even be possible to set the tilde key to a blank so you won't be able to use it. A more direct approach would be to simply yank the tilde key from your keyboard (as most games use it for their own debug menu anyway) :P

Right, it seems people can't bother to behave properly. Locking this one to see if people should be given a few days off.

Edit: After having removed several post that were not in any way related to the topic as well as several that were not in accordance with our forum rules; I have chosen to reopen this thread. Please do not make me regret this decision.

Thanks,

There is a command, coc testinghall, which takes you to a room filled with doors which are categories containing every single object in the game. :L

I like the console because it lets you counter quite a few glitches.

My answers to the questions are yes to the first one and no to the second.

While it's true that the console can be used to cheat, it's intended purpose is not a tool for cheating, primarily, it is there for testing mods and such, and removing it would make testing mods, which is, of course, an important aspect of their creation, much more difficult, severely limiting modding, further, even for someone like myself who is not a modder, the console still has its uses other than cheating, it can, for example, be used for avoiding various bugs, such as if I get stuck in objects, that is not supposed to happen and that it does is purely a result of glitches with game design or programming, therefore, I'd hardly consider it a cheat to use the console to avoid it, not to mention it's useful for taking screenshots. It can, for example, be used to disable in-game menus, and the TFC command is helpful for getting better angles for screenshots (TFC toggles the free-flying camera, allowing you to move the camera around the game world freely, independent from your character's position.) and so on. I would hate to see these options removed just because a few people can't resist the temptation to use the console to cheat. Though I guess including an option to toggle off the ability to use it in the game wouldn't be harmful.

And knowing about the console doesn't ruin the game for me because I don't use it to cheat my way out of any situation that's even remotely challenging, because that would be boring, and why would I do something that I know will make my game boring? I only use the console in a situation where it does not hurt my enjoyment of the game, and in fact may increase it.

The command console stays. It's there for the modders to test things, as well as fixing bugs. It's not anyone's fault but your own that you used it to cheat and ruin the experience.

It's not a "cheat" feature.

What Velorien said.

I don't think removing it just because you lack self control is a good idea.

Though I sympathise with your position. I think perhaps you should have the option to turn it on and off at the start of every game.

This would perhaps be a far more diplomatic and fair solution.

Lots of games has a cheat setting in the ini file works well as it's require some knowledge to turn it on and if off you have to close the game modify and restart this would remove some temptation, Oblivion had screenshots on/ off for some surreal reason.

Yes adding some of the console comands on Xbox260 and PS3 would help a lot of people, mostly tlc to get out then stuck and advance current quest one step to solve broken quests.

Do you not understand technology in general? You can't have console commands on the consoles (ironic, huh?)

[censored]-y comment. he obviously plays on a console and doesn't know the difference, and despite your tone its really not common sense to people who have never played pc games.

@op.
no bro, there are mods for that, they have at least 3-4 rolling around on the nexus that lock you out by .esp
